I have 3 monitors attached to the PC and I would like 2 of the to display metro and the 3 just for normal desktop, is this possible? Also, is is possible to make it so Metro doesn't hide when i interact with a desktop application?
I installed an update this morning (the little action center flag in the bottom corner of the desktop told me to), after which my start screen displays nothing except the background, whenever I search for anything it says "This app can't be searched". Nothing relating to the start screen can open, so I pressed 'Windows + r' to get myself to desktop. I can open IE in desktop but can't view in start. System Restore failed and no matter how many times I try it will not work. When I look through Control Panel at the recently installed updates I can't find the one I installed this morning. next step is to do a system refresh - but there's a catch.
I can swipe in to bring up the charms bar (that's what it's called, right?), and I then click on settings. At the bottom i select "Change PC Settings", but along with every other part of Modern UI, nothing happens. As far as I know, from this menu that I cannot open is the only possible way to do a system refresh/reset, thus I am stuck with an inoperable operating system.
I built a computer recently. Since day one I get BSODs but the drivers, and Bug/Checks listed are never the same.I was thinking it couldn't be a single device or driver so I've:
Replaced the MOBO. Repair Installed the OS. Replaced the RAM.
It BSOD'd multiple times between each change.
The only things I've run are IE/FF and Ableton Live 9. Ableton is usually running during the BSOD but it was not the last time.
IE Metro tile is missing from my metro start screen. It's not in the 'all apps' list either. when I go to program default, it is set as the default browser. I went through all the checks in the tutorial on here, but at best, I can only get the desktop IE tile to pin to start. I would rather have the metro version tile on my start.
I have two different Microsoft accounts on my Windows 8 machine, which is a laptop. One of them is an account I got from my ISP and has been in use for years but that one is disappearing in a few days (I think) because I cancelled my account with my ISP. The other account is one I created within the last couple of weeks.
In transitioning to the new account, I'm finding it considerably more work than I expected and wonder if I am ignorant of some easier ways of doing things. For instance, I was surprised that the applications installed under the older account aren't visible under the new accounts. Is there an easy way to make them visible or do I really need to reinstall the same applications under the new account from scratch? For example, let's say I have a game like Taptiles on the old account and want it visible under the new account: do I really need to do a fresh install under the new account? Or is there an easier way to be able to play Taptiles from the copy I originally installed under the original account?
Also, what is the easiest way to pass data back and forth between the two accounts? I did a copy within a file on the original account and switched to the second account to paste that information in and was disappointed to find that it was not possible. I ended up sending an email to myself then copied from the email on the newer account. It struck me that there must be a better way but I'm not sure what that would be.
Also, with respect to XBox, some of the XBox games had accumulated fairly substantial scores as a result of playing the daily challenges. Is there any way to roll the scores from the old account into the new account, even though they have different "gamer tags" (the ID by which I am known when I play TapTiles or Mahjong or whatever)?
I'm into photography and when I take pictures and put them on my computer they usually have the same name as several other pictures I've taken. In Windows 7 when I would transfer files from my memory card to my computer it would give me the option to 1) Skip saving the duplicate files, 2) save over them, and 3) keep both files and then it would rename the new file with a number after it (such as DCIM 102 and DCIM 102 (2))
In Windows 8 it seems like I only have the options to 1) skip saving the duplicate and 2) save over the duplicate....since I want to keep both files, what do I do?
Most of my pictures aren't really themed or anything, so there's not really a need for keywords, like "Birthday blah blah" or "flowers yada yada" etc. Anything similar to the "save both files"...?
I've been dealing with shoddy drivers for about three months now and recently it got so bad I had 9 BsoD's in one day. At that point I made major changes and got rid of everything that was unnecessary. Unfortunately I'm still having problems, with two BSoD's here in the last hour.
I'll attach the two BSoD's I've just had along with the data from msinfo32 in hopes this can finally stop.
This feels like it started happening after the latest update, but I've noticed that I have what looks like two taskbars, one behind the other, now. Nothing I do fixes it - I have to reboot the machine. Here's a screenshot where I pulled one of them up higher to easily see the difference.
Installed a new laser jet printer and can't print multiple pages. Looked the problem up on other forums and it says to disable mopier mode. I can't find this anywhere. Have looked in printer properties and selected device settings tab and it's not there. Is there a different way of doing this on Windows 8 or am I doing completely the wrong thing to solve this problem.
Part of my job is to prepare new laptops for end users that comes from OEMs. Since the included windows installation on most laptops is loaded with "bloatwares" we used to deploy a fresh Win7 Image in WDS and activate using OEM slic which made them completely legal. That was in the Windows 7 days.
Now I'm trying to do about the same thing with Windows 8 however since there is no SLIC it gets a little bit trickier.
Here is what we are doing right now:
-pull the hard drive from the laptop
-make a backup of 'Store' folder
-Reinstall hard drive, deploy Image or Clone from same model.
-pull the hard drive again
-overwrite content of Store folder with the old one
-Change folder permissions
-put the hard disk back in the laptop, let it boot.
-Windows complain about an activation error, reboot or CMD>slmgr -dli.
-activated again.
The hardest part in fact is to take note of which Store folder goes with which laptop.
I encounter really frequent bsod crashes (3-6 every day) with various errors on my relatively new notebook - Asus G750JH-T4080H. these include:
INTERRUPT_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED TIMER_OR_DPC_INVALID DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE
Additional info: They mostly occur when in windows, browsing the web using firefox. only very seldom they appear during gaming. i also have to admit that i made recent changes to registry (regarding "The server {9BA05972-F6A8-11CF-A442-00A0C90A8F39} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout." errors in event log/viewer") because of another problem (but the bsods were already there before that changes, but maybe not so frequently).
I just installed the new 8.1 windows updates, 30 minutes later new bsod appeared (uploaded current Diagnostic Tool zip):
Currently, I run Windows 7 Pro on dual 24" monitors, and life is good.
In Win 8, if I open the desktop tile, I presume that the default action is to open the full-screen desktop app on just 1 of the 2 monitors. I'm guessing that the "Start" screen remains on the 2nd monitor.
Can I have the desktop app open, full screen, across both monitors? Can I have icons for my so-called legacy programs littered across both monitors like I have them on the Win 7 desktop? Just to clarify, I am NOT asking about having the background wallpaper extend across both monitors. I want the actual desktop application to extend across both monitors.
I use lenovo z510i i7 4702QM 8gb laptop.Nearly everyday i'm getting a bsod while working.I only use my laptop for my job, never play games or make hard use.I belive that bsods are from device drivers of microsoft. All intel and nvidia drivers are updated from their own sites and other from lenovos site.*.zip file attached to this message contains the dump file of last crash.
Since 2 week my pc (a toshiba qosmio X70), that I bought four months ago, had BSOD at different time (Driver power state failure). Mainly when I start the pc. "WhoCrashed" reports said that differents drivers were in cause each time. Today it is ntoskrnl and ntkrnlmp.exe ...
I fear that there is a hardware problem ... Since I bought it, the pc make strange noise when I connect a usb device (a "bip-bip").
I re-installed Windows 8 on an mSATA SSD drive and would like to use the regular 2TB drive for data. I accessed Disk Management and hoped to be able to delete all the Dell created partitions, however, I do not see such an option.
I've included a screenshot for your reference. I'm able to format the Data (D) drive, but cannot do anything with the other partitions.
I have two monitors. Some of my programs can take the whole screen, covering up everything including the task bar. In W7, I just used the MS clock gadget which I moved to the second screen so I could always see the time. Now in Windows 8.1 Update, I can see all the apps that I've pined to the active task bar, but I don't see the system tray with the time to the right. Doesn't have to be the task bar, of course -- could be a floating clock in the upper right or left or anywhere you like.
I have an old Dell PC running Windows 7. I just bought a new Samsung PC with Windows 8 loaded. Both have Charter Security Suite loaded. Both access the internet via my WAN connection. I have three browsers loaded: IE, FF, & Chrome. On all three browsers, my old W7 PC loads pages faster. On the Samsung, the pages are slower to load and I have to refresh (hit F5) to get them to render properly.
Other than the OS, I cannot figure out what is the root of this problem. Evidently, a lot of others are having it too (based on reading several posts found using an internet search). The WAN is the same. All 3 browsers have the issue. The virus software is the same. I have nothing else loaded on this new PC.
I'd be happy to try some options and do further testing to try to fix this issue. It does not happen every time with every web page, but it happens much to frequently to ignore. Whenever I come across a slow page, I test it on the old computer and it pulls up quickly.
Lately I have observed that whenever I connect my computer through WiFi, I see various other devices visible under 'my computer', like network gateway, mobile phones, and other devices.
Is it because the network settings had network visibility option checked 'on'.
Also, would that mean someone may have accessed the files on my computer.
I want to know who else can access my computer through the same WiFi that I am connected to.
Recently i noticied that in Disk Managment there are multiple recovery partitions that are stated as 100% free (they are not visible when opening My Computer). (I recently did a system recovery from recovery utility, don't know if it's relevant to my "problem").
Is it expected to have these partitions? And if yes, why they seem to be 100% free?
[Q] Is it possible to have Multiple WhatsApp Accounts on lumia?
In rooted android phone we can create data profiles and maintain more than one whatsapp account. Is there any way to have two whatsapp accounts on nokia lumia phone?
I built my first PC in summer 2013 and since then have had multiple BSOD which have sometimes been really close together and sometimes really far apart. What I mainly want to know is if it is hardware related or just related to me installing any of the 14.x Drivers from AMD
The one thing I have noticed. If I remember correctly it never BSOD during games I feel like its always when I'm watching a video online.
