Hardware Drivers :: CM6730 Asus PC - Cannot Enter BIOS

May 8, 2014

I have a CM6730 Asus PC with a P8H61-M PRO/CM6630 motherboard.

I was having problems getting good Graphics performance and the topic of Integrated vs discrete GPU came up, the options in the BIOS were set to use iGPU, since then I do not get the option on boot to enter the BIOS.

I have tried ASUS but they want me to send the unit in for repair.

My rig has Windows 8.1 fully updated.

Hardware Drivers :: Asus CM6730 - PC Won't Boot Up In Safe Mode?

Dec 21, 2013

I have an Asus CM6730 PC, bought in October, which had Windows 8 installed on it.

Everything was fine, until I decided to install the upgrade to Windows 8.1.

After a week or so, my mouse started to freeze up randomly and the only way to log out of the PC was by holding the power button down for several seconds. The next day, I was working on the PC, took a phone call and the machine went into standby mode - but wouldn't come back on when I press a key / moved mouse.

At that point I decided to restore the machine back to factory settings. This was done successfully so I was back to Windows 8. However - my problems have got worse - and now I am at the stage where the PC wont even boot up in Safe Mode - the screen just goes black.

I have read up on a few sites and I believe it could anything from driver related - to a faulty motherboard.

ASUS CM6730 Desktop / Windows 8.1 Keeps Freezing - Not Permanent But Annoying

Dec 21, 2013

My computer is a ASUS cm6730 desktop PC, 64 bit windows 8.1. I run it to my tv like this:

pc ---HDMI---> xbox one ---HDMI---> lg audio system ---HDMI---> tv

I have my desktop tucked away so i use a wireless keyboard and mouse to control the pc. My problem is 99% of the time while the computer is not being used (fully on but no input) it will completely freeze. The other 1% of the time it will happen while im typing or doing something.

The simple fix I have found is to unplug-replug the wireless keyboard/mouse and boom, instant fix! the problem i have is that the whole point of me having my setup is so i dont have to be right next to the desktop. i thought maybe the problem was the wireless keyboard and mouse but after buying a new one today with built in windows 8 functions, the problem hasnt changed.

One weird thing i noticed is while the computer is frozen if i press ctrl-alt-dlt nothing will happen (surprise surprise its frozen) but the second i do my "quick fix" with the wireless dongle it magically turns back on and the task manager will pop up (so the computer is still getting the keyboard inputs while frozen?)

All drivers are up to date... xbox one is not frozen (i can switch between pc-apps-games no problem, pc stays frozen)... anti virus runs clean... no major system changes sense this started happening a couple days ago. (it froze on me twice writing this message)

Hardware Drivers :: Asus Z97 Pro - USB Devices Seen In BIOS But Not In Windows 8.1

Jun 6, 2014

I have recently built a new computer and installed Windows 8. All was running fine (including USB devices such as iPhone, flash drive etc), however since upgrading to Windows 8.1, none of my USB devices are showing up at all. Oddly, the mouse and keyboard still work.

When I go into the BIOS, all my devices (iPhone, Flash drive, keyboard and mouse etc) all show up in there, so I'm guessing it's a driver/Windows 8.1 issue that I'm missing?

I have been to the ASUS website and downloaded all the drivers I can find, but still no luck.

My motherboard is an "Asus Z97 Pro". I have tried contacting Asus support, but they are completely useless!

How To Enter BIOS When Fast Startup Is Turned On

Jul 31, 2014

I have a desktop with Windows 8 upgraded to 8.1, I can enter the BIOS setup by pressing the DEL key only when the preceding shutdown is a complete shutdown (shutdown with fast startup turned off).

If the desktop is shutdown with fast startup turned on (incomplete shutdown), and Windows cannot be loaded during the subsequent starting. How can I enter the BIOS to select to boot from a USB stick?

Accounts :: Picture Password Hidden - Cannot Enter BIOS

Jun 6, 2014

I had a picture password, but it hid itself, since I got it wrong to many times. I do not have a pin password, regular password, password reset disc, and I cannot enter the bios. So my question is, how do I get to my picture password, without a the choice to enter my computer, since I forgot my password. Let me give the details. I go to my picture password, and get it wrong to many times, so it then closes the window and goes to the regular password screen, but there are no sign in options. But In the password settings it says the picture password is still there, so is the picture password hidden, deleted, or do you have to be in the password settings to get it back? I have forgotten my regular password, and do not have a pin password.

Edit Key In ASUS Tablet BIOS From Win 8 Core To 8.1 Pro

Nov 17, 2013

I'm considering doing a clean install of Windows Pro 8.1 on an ASUS VivoTab ME400C-C2-BK tablet to recapture the space from the restore partition. After doing some research it seems others that have done this run into conflicts if attempting to restore/repair file corruption through Windows down the road because it looks at the BIOS and finds Core version reference.

Is there a way to insert 8.1 Pro key into BIOS to prevent version conflicts?

If not, is there a way to avoid version conflict issues with the BIOS? (simply reinstall?) I did search here but came up empty.

ASUS K95VB Notebook - UEFI Option In BIOS

Jul 26, 2014

Just got my hands on a brand new ASUS K95VB notebook on behalf of a friend. I used a USB with Windows 8.1 on it in order to format the hard drive and install Windows. The hard drive is 3TB. I remember trying to install Windows using the UEFI option in the usb startup menu but that didnt work so I proceeded on the non-uefi option.

Now the problem is that only 2 TB are shown and the remaining 1 TB is shown only in device manager as not assigned...

If I understand correctly, the BIOS should be in UEFI mode and then the hard drive should be converted to GPT and then install Windows.

But, no option in BIOS for UEFI to be enabled whatsoever. What on earth should I do?

Setup Installation :: ASUS M2N-E Won't Boot Win 8.1 After BIOS Update

Jul 2, 2014

It has an ASUS M2N-E motherboard with an old single core AMD Athlon 64 (I cannot remember which model specifically).

Last week, I provided him with a couple of old HDDs and 8GB worth PC-5300 DDR2 667 MHz RAM. We also installed Windows 8.1 64-bit, and other than the CPU being a single core and a bit slow, things were proceeding relatively smoothly.

He has an NVIDIA Geforce 8500 on the board, and he's ordered a PNY-made Geforce GTX 650 that's on it's way at present.

He's wanting to upgrade the CPU to the AMD PHENOM X4 9950, so we've been periodically meeting over the past couple of weeks to perform surgery on this old machine.

At any rate, we found that to update the CPU, we needed to update his BIOS from the one that was installed, which was at revision 0502. The needed BIOS revision for the CPU was 1504, but would also work with revision 1701.

After jumping through several hoops to update the BIOS, we updated it to 1701. However, since then the machine will not boot into Windows 8.1. He gets an instant BSOD. I did not see the error code, so I cannot say what it was. He told me that he's attempted to do a repair install to no avail. The repair attempt results in a constant loop of the machine rebooting and BSODing.

At any rate, here are some URLs that detail the board specs and the list of BIOS revisions for that board.

Can't Get Boot Menu BIOS Option On Asus X750j Laptop?

Jan 24, 2014

My wife has a new Asus X750j Laptop.

I've spent the last day and a half setting it up.Now I want to make a system image of the C: drive using Paragon.

I do this from a bootable DVD, but it isn't set to boot to the DVD first in the boot order.

I've tried tapping the F11, F8, Del, Esc and F2 keys and it just boots into Windows 8.

My computer which has an ASUS motherboard, shows a message when I boot, saying select "Delete" to boot into the UEFI Bios.

But I can't seem to get either a boot menu of the bios option on the laptop.

Hardware Drivers :: Huawei E173 Doesn't Allows To Enter In Hibernation Mode

Sep 15, 2014

I am facing a peculiar issues with my Vaio Machine. I use a Huwaei 3G E173 Modem for connecting Internet. I started using this in my new vaio machine too. Whenever I use the hibernate option, it tend to goto the last phase of Hibernation i.e the screen goes off, the fan starts screaming and after a moment it restarts. So, to be succinct, the new windows 8.1 machine doesn't enter in hibernation mode, if I have connected the modem. The modem has a CD Rom emulation for their proprietary software installation, so I thought it would be the cause and hence I tried to change Boot Options in UEFI BIOS to Primary, Secondary and Third as HDD, Network and External device from HDD, CD, Ext. Device.

I have also tried to disable that Power Management settings available in Driver Settings -> Hardware Settings and Un-tick the "Allow this device to Wake the computer"

P.S If I do not connect the computer to Internet with this modem and try to Hibernate it does the Job, when I use the Huwaei Modem only it creates the issue.

But nothing seems work out. Any resolution for this?

ASUS K75DE Windows 8 And 7 Dual Boot - Boot Options Grayed Out In BIOS

Dec 15, 2013

I just got a refurbished ASUS K75DE laptop, and it came with Windows 8 on it. I am wanting to run a dual boot with Win7, so I disabled fast-boot just fine, and went into the UEFI BIOS and disabled the secure boot.

While I was there, I did like I have always done and set a BIOS boot-up password. I then proceed to boot to my Win7 installer USB Flash drive, but I was running low on battery power so I aborted the install and shut the computer down to try again later.

Now however when I get into BIOS to select boot priority, all options are grayed out except for system time and a few other non-essentials. At the bottom of the first BIOS screen it says "User Level : User" and I can't seem to find a way to reverse this issue. So now I'm stuck, can't boot to anything but the HDD because it is first by default.

Hardware Drivers :: Asus N56VM Laptop Intel USB 3.0 Drivers?

Feb 14, 2014

I have a ASUS N56VM laptop, I have upgraded to Windows 8.1 Pro a few months ago (free DreamSpark account) and I can't get USB 3.0 to work at the speeds at which it needs to work. An 3GB ISO which I copy from my HDD to an USB3.0 USB-stick gets a max speed of 25 mb per second. I have already tried everything I could think of, including the following:

Upgrading Intel chipset drivers from ASUS support site (delete old, install new)Upgrading BIOSINF hack (Windows 8 and Intel USB 3.0 Host Controllers | Plugable) "Windows 8* has a native in-box USB 3.0 driver. Intel is not releasing a specific Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Driver for Windows 8."

The driver I have is: imgur: the simple image sharer

The only thing I can think of is maybe mailing ASUS if they can supply a new BIOS revision or mailing Intel if they can supply some new chipset drivers...

EDIT1: A few months back, when the laptop was still running Windows 7, the read/write speeds were "normal", meaning that they were what you would expect from USB 3.0.

Hardware Drivers :: Asus P8Z77-V / Can't Install All Drivers

Jun 22, 2013

I have an Asus P8Z77-V Deluxe. It replaces a motherboard that failed. I have moved the Win 7 image over to the new board using a "restore to other hardware" feature in a backup program. It did not work properly. I am not able to get some drivers to install. For various (and sufficient) reasons I really really don't want to do a clean install. When I first booted, it would not even boot until I used Win PE to repair the boot. Various squirrely things are still wrong. Like not being able to see more than one hard drive. Occasional crashes for no obvious reason.

For an SATA controller when I run update driver or running the Intel INF setup program provided by Asus I get a message:

7 series/C216 SATA AHCI controller 1E02 Also This operation requires an interactive windows station.

I have just run the Intel update program and it says it can't identify a device an I need to contact the board manufacturer.

An alternative I am considering is to install a Win 8 update over the Win 7 telling Win 8 to retain my programs, settings, and data. But I am not sure this will get me where I want to go. My major question about that is will the Win 8 installation be clever enough to use all of the driver files from Asus that I have downloaded (and I point it to) rather than installing something like the incorrect ones currently installed?

Hardware Drivers :: Stuck With A Broken BIOS?

Aug 13, 2013

I have a Samsung DP700A3D All-In-One. It came preinstalled with Windows 8. I remember it being version 6.2 (?). I always seem to try things above and beyond my skill set (Current Computer Science student). I installed Ubuntu 13.04 64 bit alongside Windows 8 with no problems. I aloud the Ubuntu to do the partioning. It used Grub2 for bootloader. I wasn't happy with that wanting to use Windows Boot Manager. After changing this and reloading that, somehow the windows 8 partition did a recovery. I can now not boot anything. I'm currently on Ubuntu live CD. I can see the drives from here. There are partitions labeled SAMSUNG_REC, SAMSUNG_REC2, 487 GB Volume(Windows files inside), Windows RE tools, and 481 GB Volume(Ubuntu files inside). When I boot the machine, I get the Install Boot Media ?? comment at attempted start-up. When I was setting up the Ubuntu alongside Windows I could access BIOS(?) with an F2 press at initial flash screen. Now I cannot. I can do nothing but run the Ubuntu Live CD. I don't want to try Fresh install of Ubuntu because there are files on Ubuntu partition because there are files that are too large for me to back-up else where that are very important. I KNOW .... BACK-UP BACK-UP BACK-UP!! It however is too late for that..

Hardware Drivers :: Stuck At BIOS After Resizing With Partition Wizard

Jul 20, 2013

My PC specs: Asus P8Z77-V with a SATA2 WD Caviar Black 500GB. The HDD has four partitions, and I've had Windows 7 32 bit installed on C:/ for three years. Windows 8 was just installed four months ago.

Before this, I had my Windows 8 and BIOS ahci-enabled C:/Windows 7 <> D:/Stuffs <> E:/Windows 8 <> F:/Stuffs

Yesterday, I needed some space on my F:, so I started Partition Wizard (I used this program a lot before with no problems) and cut 9gb from C, after that queue it to extend F: that much space.

Because C: is located first, but F: is located last, PW created 4 queue, which is cut -> move D: -> move E: -> extend F. The two first actions were performed fine, however when I restart as PW promoted, I was stuck at the BIOS, unable to access BIOS, with the red led lit on the P8z77-v, which means there was a problem with a boot device. If I unplug the HDD, the system goes into BIOS just fine, but obviously can't boot anymore.

There is a lot of important data on that disk which I can't afford to lose. My problem sounds almost like the same as this one: [URL] ....., however when he changes his BIOS to IDE mode, his HDD booted into Windows 7. However, mine doesn't. I've disabled Secure Boot, but that doesn't work either. It just stucks at the BIOS splash screen.

Currently I am considering to burn a PW CD and hotswap the HDD in order to fix the MBR and stuffs.
