Hardware Drivers :: Stuck At BIOS After Resizing With Partition Wizard

Jul 20, 2013

My PC specs: Asus P8Z77-V with a SATA2 WD Caviar Black 500GB. The HDD has four partitions, and I've had Windows 7 32 bit installed on C:/ for three years. Windows 8 was just installed four months ago.

Before this, I had my Windows 8 and BIOS ahci-enabled C:/Windows 7 <> D:/Stuffs <> E:/Windows 8 <> F:/Stuffs

Yesterday, I needed some space on my F:, so I started Partition Wizard (I used this program a lot before with no problems) and cut 9gb from C, after that queue it to extend F: that much space.

Because C: is located first, but F: is located last, PW created 4 queue, which is cut -> move D: -> move E: -> extend F. The two first actions were performed fine, however when I restart as PW promoted, I was stuck at the BIOS, unable to access BIOS, with the red led lit on the P8z77-v, which means there was a problem with a boot device. If I unplug the HDD, the system goes into BIOS just fine, but obviously can't boot anymore.

There is a lot of important data on that disk which I can't afford to lose. My problem sounds almost like the same as this one: [URL] ....., however when he changes his BIOS to IDE mode, his HDD booted into Windows 7. However, mine doesn't. I've disabled Secure Boot, but that doesn't work either. It just stucks at the BIOS splash screen.

Currently I am considering to burn a PW CD and hotswap the HDD in order to fix the MBR and stuffs.

Moving Media PC Partition Using Partition Wizard 7

Jul 22, 2013

Suddenly, the Acronis program I used to always use for partition copy, won't detect my USB mouse and KB. So, I'm having to do it with Partition Wizard 7. I've never used that to move a system partition, are there any issues doing it that way? The only other program I used to use for this kind of Op is paragon partition manager, which the version I have is not compatible with 8.

I don't like doing it this way, it's very slow compared to using the Acronis program, which seems to fly fast.

Hardware Drivers :: Stuck With A Broken BIOS?

Aug 13, 2013

I have a Samsung DP700A3D All-In-One. It came preinstalled with Windows 8. I remember it being version 6.2 (?). I always seem to try things above and beyond my skill set (Current Computer Science student). I installed Ubuntu 13.04 64 bit alongside Windows 8 with no problems. I aloud the Ubuntu to do the partioning. It used Grub2 for bootloader. I wasn't happy with that wanting to use Windows Boot Manager. After changing this and reloading that, somehow the windows 8 partition did a recovery. I can now not boot anything. I'm currently on Ubuntu live CD. I can see the drives from here. There are partitions labeled SAMSUNG_REC, SAMSUNG_REC2, 487 GB Volume(Windows files inside), Windows RE tools, and 481 GB Volume(Ubuntu files inside). When I boot the machine, I get the Install Boot Media ?? comment at attempted start-up. When I was setting up the Ubuntu alongside Windows I could access BIOS(?) with an F2 press at initial flash screen. Now I cannot. I can do nothing but run the Ubuntu Live CD. I don't want to try Fresh install of Ubuntu because there are files on Ubuntu partition because there are files that are too large for me to back-up else where that are very important. I KNOW .... BACK-UP BACK-UP BACK-UP!! It however is too late for that..

Apps / Software :: Partition Wizard - How To Create BOOTABLE USB Drive

Nov 1, 2013

Partition wizard - seems no way to create a USB bootable media -- if your PC doesn't have a physical DVD drive even the PAID PRO version doesn't show the create bootable media option. Machine doesn't have bootable CD.

Gone back to the FREE GPARTED program -- although it can take a lot longer to run when re-sizing / moving partitions.

(Another method -- a bit extreme though is to install Partition wizard on a Windows to Go system !!!)

The Partition wizard website is totally confusing too it shows a USB version but how to obtain it is unclear and the documentation is not good either.

Windows 8 PC Will Not Boot Up At All / Stuck On BIOS

Jun 23, 2013

I have a pretty new computer. Just a few months old. It is supposed to be a good one.

Dell XPS 8500
Quad core i7 processor
lots of memory and extras

This computer also has the 64 bit edition of Windows 8 installed on it. Windows 8 is driving me up the wall!!! I have had numerous problems with it since day 1.

As recently as a few days ago, my system was running reasonably okay. Then I downloaded a driver for my network card from the dell.com website. From that point on, I cannot get my computer to boot up properly. I have turned my computer off and on multiple times in hopes that it would correct whatever is wrong.

When I first turn my PC on, it will stay stuck at the Dell logo window for a while.

Sometimes it will make it past that and it will give me an error message that says:

"error sending end of post message to ME, system HALT!"

Also, I sometimes get a message which says:

"the last USB device you connected to the computer malfunctioned, and Windows did not recognize it.

Try reconnecting the device. If windows still does not recognize it, your device may not be working properly."

This is insanity. I have NOT connected any new USB devices to my computer.

I do not know what to do. I figured that the easiest thing might be to try simply reinstalling Windows 8 from scratch. So I inserted my Windows 8 reinstall disk that Dell sent me when I bought this thing. However, my computer will not boot from this disk. So I guess I am stuck.

Setup Installation :: Using 64bit Version - Boot Win 8 On GPT Partition Via BIOS?

Apr 21, 2012

Will it be possible to boot Windows 8 from a GPT partition using BIOS (not UEFI)? I'll be using the 64bit version.

Technically, I know it's possible as I'm doing it with FreeBSD, many Linux distros etc. Using hybrid MBR/GPT, I've read others have Win7 booting off GPT partitons as all. I'd rather not go that route.

Windows 8 Stuck At Black Screen (with Mouse Cursor) After Deleting Linux Partition

Aug 15, 2014

I have a problem in my dual boot machine. I decided to remove Linux mint 17 from my dual boot with windows 8.
I used easeus partition manager to delete the partitions associated (root, home and swap). Then I got unallocated space just before my windows partition. So I moved my windows partition to the extreme left possible. Then I merged this unallocated space with my second storage partition.

These steps required reboot (specifically the moving of windows partition). When I rebooted my PC I got an error that grub was not found. I realized that I had forgot to fix MBR and load windows boot loader. So I used windows 7 recovery disk (yes windows 7 as I don't have windows8 recovery or installation disk). I got a windows 7 style boot loader instead of windows 8's graphical one which has advanced recovery options built in. But I proceeded. Then eases did its job with the partitions. After a reboot now I am stuck at a black screen after entering my password with a movable mose cursor. I can only press Ctrl+alt+del. Selecting task manager from it does nothing.

Since I don't have windows 8 disks and windows 8 boot loader I am not able to refresh or reset my PC. Neither can I shift restart my PC to get advanced boot options. One more thing to note, that while entering password, I noticed that the lock screen and account pictures have changed to defaults of a freshly installed windows.

Maintenance :: InstallShield Wizard Hangs At 0% And Never Finishes

Apr 20, 2013

In december I purchased anew ASUS laptop. It came with Windows 8 installed. Everything was fine for about a month. The new interface was annoying but w/e, change happens and i adjusted. But the OS performance has quickly tanked.

My first problems was a lost in framerate playing. Initially I could run it at high setting and get 60fps but now i run it on low setting and I'm lucky to get 30fps.

Then I started to have a problem whenever I shutdown the system. Upon reboot it would freeze for 5-10 minutes once I was at my desktop. This problem persists but I just never turn off my comp or let it sleep to get around it.

In my attempts to fix these problems I tried to install updates. This requires the system to enter a restart which results in the computer freezing and never installing updates/restarting.

My computer wont recognize USB drives unless they are plugged in with comp shut off and then booting (after freeze for 10 min).

I downloaded a copy of Win 7 from microsoft website and loaded it on a USB boot drive so I could use my old cd key and run a stable OS finally. However the formatting of the HDD said that win7 could not be installed on that format type. I tried to use system utilites to repartition and reformat one to install on, but of course the partition program hangs when it attempts to populate the partition list.

So I decided I would restore the system using the backup partition. Again, when I tried using the restore utility my computer froze until I did a hard reboot.

My latest problem that started today is anything I try to install using the "InstallShield wizard" hangs at 0% and never finishes.

Here is a link to the laptop I purchased: ASUS S56CA-WH31 15.6" Ultrabook - Newegg.com

Hardware Drivers :: Asus Z97 Pro - USB Devices Seen In BIOS But Not In Windows 8.1

Jun 6, 2014

I have recently built a new computer and installed Windows 8. All was running fine (including USB devices such as iPhone, flash drive etc), however since upgrading to Windows 8.1, none of my USB devices are showing up at all. Oddly, the mouse and keyboard still work.

When I go into the BIOS, all my devices (iPhone, Flash drive, keyboard and mouse etc) all show up in there, so I'm guessing it's a driver/Windows 8.1 issue that I'm missing?

I have been to the ASUS website and downloaded all the drivers I can find, but still no luck.

My motherboard is an "Asus Z97 Pro". I have tried contacting Asus support, but they are completely useless!

Asus Installation Wizard Keeps Launching From Apps Menu?

When I bring up the start menu, scroll down to the apps menu, and move the mouse at all, it instantly brings me to the desktop where "Asus Installation Wizard" will launch and then immediately tell me that I don't have the supported hardware (even though the Asus Live Update program tells me everything is fine and up to date). I can close it, but it just happens again and again when I visit the apps menu, and ONLY when I visit the apps menu. It doesn't happen on startup or any other time.

Hardware Drivers :: HDD Clicking And Win 8 Stuck After Installing VMware Or VBox

Aug 15, 2014

I've had my computer for about four years with an Asus motherboard, and I recently (like two days ago) had it changed to a Digilite motherboard. I'm also a regular user of VMware or VirtualBox, whichever is feeling fancy to me.

About six months ago, my Seagate hard disk started clicking regularly at about 10 seconds interval, which quickly came down to 1-2 second interval, causing the hard drive to click furiously. Due to this, my Windows 8 would get stuck and won't even give a BSOD. Same thing would happen at restart. Automatic Repair didn't work, but chkdsk would find some corrupted sectors and fix the issue. On the next restart, after running smoothly for 5 minutes, the clicking and stucking would start again. I finally narrowed down the problem to VMware and removed it and ran chkdsk again. This seemed to solve the problem.

After getting my new motherboard, I thought the results might be different, so I installed VMware and ran it for a long time. There was no clicking of HDD until the next startup. As soon as I logged in, desktop became slow and stucky, and finally I heard the horrific sound of that clicking again. (Now whenever I hear ANYthing click ANYwhere, I freeze for a second.) I knew what the problem was and applied the same solution I applied months ago.

I need to be able to run VMware or VirtualBox to go through a few Linux and python books I'm reading. My brain just cannot grasp how a software could affect the hardware this badly! I'll try a few other things to narrow down the problem while I wait for responses. At this point, where changing the HDD seems to be the only option

Hardware Drivers :: Print Queue Won't Remove A Job - Stuck On Deleting

I'm running Windows 8.1 and I'm trying to print from a network printer. One job is clogging the rest of the jobs and is stuck on "deleting" but won't ever get deleted. Others on the network are still able to print from the printer. So far I've tried:

-Clicking on "cancel" in the job queue
-Restarting the computer
-Restarting the printerRemoving/re-adding the printer from Printers and Devices
-Uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers
-Stopping/Restarting the Spool service in Task manager
-Looking for the files found in /System32/spool/PRINTERS

The weird thing, actually, is that there was no folder "PRINTERS" when I go to /System32/spool. I know that deleting the files in there often fixes the problem, but I can't even find a PRINTERS folder.

Hardware Drivers :: BIOS Update - Image Integrity Check Failed

Jan 22, 2014

This issue has been an ongoing one about close to a year after i purchased my PC. It is an ASUS PC when i go to the support site for updates in the past and now for my model i see BIOS updates.

Lately they have been all CAP Bios's,any time i try to use these type of BIOS's it is not recognized in the BIOS utility in the BIOS screen.

My last BIOS update was a ROM BIOS it worked fine, now all the future BIOS updates on ASUS's site are CAP.

If I try to rename the BIOS to a ROM i get an error "image integrity check failed". Of course i have spoken to ASUS Support in the past and now over the phone also, but no luck.

I do know it can be risky updating a BIOS if anything goes wrong the PC will become unstable or unusable.

Most will say unless there is not something in the BIOS update that will make improvements to the PC.

It has been 4 or so BIOS updates since one i have on this PC so far on ASUS's site.

I believe my motherboard is not compatible with a CAP BIOS, but why ASUS lists them for my PC.

Hardware Drivers :: 2nd Hard Drive Shows In BIOS But Not Disk Management

Dec 4, 2013

Over the last couple days, I built a new PC and installed windows 8.1. Initially I had some issues installing windows, so I unplugged all my drives except the SSD and DVD. I installed windows to my SSD.

Everything works great!

Now I started adding my drives back in 1 at a time. When I plugged my 2nd SSD in, it showed up in BIOS, but not in Disk Management or Device Manager. So I booted back into the install CD, it showed up in the disk manager there. Since this was also a blank SSD, I partitioned and formated the drive from the install CD, then exited the installer and booted back to my windows drive.

I have 2 SSD drives working great!

Now to add my 2TB HDD... Same issue, it shows up in BIOS and the install disc, but not in Disk Management or Device Manager. This drive does not have a boot partition on it, however, it does have two existing data partitions. They were made from my previous windows 7 system and the option to delete these partitions is grayed out in the install disc menu. I also have some data that I would like to keep on it. I have a USB dock that I can use to read the contents of the disk just fine. Everything is there and in working order.

What is different about Windows 8.1 that is preventing my hard drives from showing up in windows proper? I am reading things about UEFI online, but nothing seems to fit my exact scenario. I will try and post some screen shots when I get back at it.

System:
Mobo- Asrock Fatal1ty Killer z87
CPU- i3 4330
GPU- Gigabyte 660 OC
SSDs - Kingston V300 120GB
Windows 8.1 64bit
