A while ago I tried to put a new HDD in my laptop and got a message saying something a long the lines that the disk wasn't recognised (forgot exact message)
I took the computer to my computer repair shop and they installed the HDD I asked them if it would be easy for me to do it and they said yes it was just a case of resetting the BIOS.
how to reset the BIOS so I can install a new HDD?
I've installed HDD's in windows 7 machines and it was just a case of inserting the disk- I didn't have to mess with the BIOS!
I have a Lenovo G510 i7(which does not seem fantastically faster than my celeron Samsung R530!). I have replaced the DVD with a SSD. I have cloned the HDD to the SSD, made changes in the BIOS(changed to ACHI,switched to Legacy, put the SSD first in boot) but get the message "no bootable device insert disc and press any key". If I use UEFI I do not see the SSD. I have googled this until my finders are sore to no avail. How to boot from the SSD and once I can do this can I reformat the HDD? The SSD is called A:, the HDD C:. I cannot change the drive letters.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Samsung DP700A3D All-In-One. It came preinstalled with Windows 8. I remember it being version 6.2 (?). I always seem to try things above and beyond my skill set (Current Computer Science student). I installed Ubuntu 13.04 64 bit alongside Windows 8 with no problems. I aloud the Ubuntu to do the partioning. It used Grub2 for bootloader. I wasn't happy with that wanting to use Windows Boot Manager. After changing this and reloading that, somehow the windows 8 partition did a recovery. I can now not boot anything. I'm currently on Ubuntu live CD. I can see the drives from here. There are partitions labeled SAMSUNG_REC, SAMSUNG_REC2, 487 GB Volume(Windows files inside), Windows RE tools, and 481 GB Volume(Ubuntu files inside). When I boot the machine, I get the Install Boot Media ?? comment at attempted start-up. When I was setting up the Ubuntu alongside Windows I could access BIOS(?) with an F2 press at initial flash screen. Now I cannot. I can do nothing but run the Ubuntu Live CD. I don't want to try Fresh install of Ubuntu because there are files on Ubuntu partition because there are files that are too large for me to back-up else where that are very important. I KNOW .... BACK-UP BACK-UP BACK-UP!! It however is too late for that..

View 8 Replies View RelatedSome time ago I replaced an IDE hard drive with Windows 8 installed for an SSD drive onto which I installed Windows 7. I would like to know if I can temporarily swap back to the IDE drive (Windows 8) while I obtain the Windows Product Key (embedded in BIOS apparently) and then replace the SSD drive (Windows 7), or boot from an external docking station and if so how do I do that?I am totally confused about the BIOS. Does a different OS change the BIOS details?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have recently built a new computer and installed Windows 8. All was running fine (including USB devices such as iPhone, flash drive etc), however since upgrading to Windows 8.1, none of my USB devices are showing up at all. Oddly, the mouse and keyboard still work.
When I go into the BIOS, all my devices (iPhone, Flash drive, keyboard and mouse etc) all show up in there, so I'm guessing it's a driver/Windows 8.1 issue that I'm missing?
I have been to the ASUS website and downloaded all the drivers I can find, but still no luck.
My motherboard is an "Asus Z97 Pro". I have tried contacting Asus support, but they are completely useless!
Ever since switching to AHCI mode, I've noticed that my keyboard has issues with the volume wheel not working properly. Also after setting up the LED lighting on the keyboard and a few restarts later, I've notice that when restarting my system the keyboard LED, blue in this case, will automatically show up and when it does, and I use the del key to get into BIOS doesn't work. I have to move the the usb connection to a different port, restart and keyboard LED will be white. This time using the del key, I can get into my BIOS no problem. This never happened when I was using native IDE mode.

The new graphics card isn't compatible with windows 8 so I have to go back and enable the CSM settings to get it to work. Is there a reason why my BIOS keeps resetting the next morning I wake up?

I am trying to update the BIOS, but don't know how. What is the easiest method to update the BIOS?
I have a CM6730 Asus PC with a P8H61-M PRO/CM6630 motherboard.
I was having problems getting good Graphics performance and the topic of Integrated vs discrete GPU came up, the options in the BIOS were set to use iGPU, since then I do not get the option on boot to enter the BIOS.
I have tried ASUS but they want me to send the unit in for repair.
My rig has Windows 8.1 fully updated.
I can't enter my BIOS/UEFI after activating "MSI Fast Boot" in the BIOS/UEFI.
I read somewhere about "GO2BIOS",but my installation disk didn't came with that software.

When startup pc (black screen) massage displayed" Please insert correct disk" message exact forgot. Next a few second this is massage displayed:"Please floppy disk insert to drive A" again massage exact forgot.
Will be updated via USB BIOS . What should I do to prepare a USB?
Went to boot up my Acer this evening to no avail. I can see it start to cycle through searching the DVD drive and see the read/right red LED light for the hard drive go on for about 5 seconds, then nothing. No BIOS test pass beep. I know that it beeps once for passing, then continues to boot.
I took the side panel off and reseated all the connections including the Mem strips. At one time I left a strip out intentionally for a continuous beep, which is what it's suppose to do.
My PC specs: Asus P8Z77-V with a SATA2 WD Caviar Black 500GB. The HDD has four partitions, and I've had Windows 7 32 bit installed on C:/ for three years. Windows 8 was just installed four months ago.
Before this, I had my Windows 8 and BIOS ahci-enabled C:/Windows 7 <> D:/Stuffs <> E:/Windows 8 <> F:/Stuffs
Yesterday, I needed some space on my F:, so I started Partition Wizard (I used this program a lot before with no problems) and cut 9gb from C, after that queue it to extend F: that much space.
Because C: is located first, but F: is located last, PW created 4 queue, which is cut -> move D: -> move E: -> extend F. The two first actions were performed fine, however when I restart as PW promoted, I was stuck at the BIOS, unable to access BIOS, with the red led lit on the P8z77-v, which means there was a problem with a boot device. If I unplug the HDD, the system goes into BIOS just fine, but obviously can't boot anymore.
There is a lot of important data on that disk which I can't afford to lose. My problem sounds almost like the same as this one: [URL] ....., however when he changes his BIOS to IDE mode, his HDD booted into Windows 7. However, mine doesn't. I've disabled Secure Boot, but that doesn't work either. It just stucks at the BIOS splash screen.
Currently I am considering to burn a PW CD and hotswap the HDD in order to fix the MBR and stuffs.
This issue has been an ongoing one about close to a year after i purchased my PC. It is an ASUS PC when i go to the support site for updates in the past and now for my model i see BIOS updates.
Lately they have been all CAP Bios's,any time i try to use these type of BIOS's it is not recognized in the BIOS utility in the BIOS screen.
My last BIOS update was a ROM BIOS it worked fine, now all the future BIOS updates on ASUS's site are CAP.
If I try to rename the BIOS to a ROM i get an error "image integrity check failed". Of course i have spoken to ASUS Support in the past and now over the phone also, but no luck.
I do know it can be risky updating a BIOS if anything goes wrong the PC will become unstable or unusable.
Most will say unless there is not something in the BIOS update that will make improvements to the PC.
It has been 4 or so BIOS updates since one i have on this PC so far on ASUS's site.
I believe my motherboard is not compatible with a CAP BIOS, but why ASUS lists them for my PC.
Over the last couple days, I built a new PC and installed windows 8.1. Initially I had some issues installing windows, so I unplugged all my drives except the SSD and DVD. I installed windows to my SSD.
Everything works great!
Now I started adding my drives back in 1 at a time. When I plugged my 2nd SSD in, it showed up in BIOS, but not in Disk Management or Device Manager. So I booted back into the install CD, it showed up in the disk manager there. Since this was also a blank SSD, I partitioned and formated the drive from the install CD, then exited the installer and booted back to my windows drive.
I have 2 SSD drives working great!
Now to add my 2TB HDD... Same issue, it shows up in BIOS and the install disc, but not in Disk Management or Device Manager. This drive does not have a boot partition on it, however, it does have two existing data partitions. They were made from my previous windows 7 system and the option to delete these partitions is grayed out in the install disc menu. I also have some data that I would like to keep on it. I have a USB dock that I can use to read the contents of the disk just fine. Everything is there and in working order.
What is different about Windows 8.1 that is preventing my hard drives from showing up in windows proper? I am reading things about UEFI online, but nothing seems to fit my exact scenario. I will try and post some screen shots when I get back at it.
System:
Mobo- Asrock Fatal1ty Killer z87
CPU- i3 4330
GPU- Gigabyte 660 OC
SSDs - Kingston V300 120GB
Windows 8.1 64bit
Windows 8 has suddenly stopped to recognise my friends keyboard. Mashing Shift-F8 seems to let the keyboard work (for several minutes). All drivers are up to date, works perfectly in Safemode and BIOS. I have reinstalled windows 8 (its only used for web browsing) and nothing has worked. It is a Toshiba Satellite.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently installed windows 8 on my MacBookPro with UEFI support, but I can't enable audio. I know that apple use BIOS emulation for windows and the assign different Hardware ID's for devices.
With BIOS emulation ID is:
HDAUDIOFUNC_01&VEN_1013&DEV_4206&SUBSYS_106B5300&REV_1003
Without emulation ID is:
PCIVEN_8086&DEV_1E20&SUBSYS_72708086&REV_04.
I tried changing inf file and it detected the required audio card driver, but it shows that device cannot start. It's Cirrus Audio CS4206B (AB83) sound card, but without emulation it shows it as intel audio card. It would be easier to get back to bootcamp, but I really want to make this work.
I just got back from vacation andwent to turn on my pc which worked before on my Gigabyte GA78LMTS2 and now cant boot into Windows, instalation media, anything. it just hangs on the BIOS load screen. I am using AHCI for my sata.

I just built a desktop with a sabertooth x79 motherboard, and am running Windows 8.1 pro 64-bit. When I click the UEFI BIOS Firmware live tile via the change PC settings>update and recovery>recovery>etc. my computer reboots normally to Windows and will not open BIOS. I have tried accessing it using the delete and f2 keys, but this does nothing either.
I am up to date in terms of my BIOS, and am definitely running UEFI and not legacy.
When I have a powered usb hub connected, my windows 8 will not start. The same usb hub connected to xp or to windows 7 does not cause problems. But it does in windows 8. So I need to disconnect that hub and start windows 8 without it and connect it after windows 8 has booted. Said hub has two drives attached: 1 32GB and a 1 TB. How come Windows 8 cannot handle it?

Recently I Recieved A Laptop in gift which I owned in the past which is A Dell XPS 15-L521X. It was running all good but suddenly Today morning when I pressed the power button and it boot through the Dell splash screen and after that It booted normal through the Windows 8 boot screen but after that It stucked at a Black Screen.
I passed on 20-min but it stucked there. No Cursor, nothing except The Black Screen. I ran Dell Pre-Boot System Assesment to check any Hardware failware but no everything is just fine. I remember That My Dell Driver Update Utility Notified me that it installed latest Intel Rapid Start Technology Driver on my last boot but I dont know whether its causing the error but The Intel Rapid Start Technology is very essential for SSD users so why will it cause errors?
