My computer was beeping on start up and would start beeping randomly while the computer was on.Sometimes it would beep non-stop and I would have to disable the internal speaker. I updated the bios and that fixed the problem, but my webcam driver and internal mic driver isn't working anymore.
View 9 RepliesI have an older computer that was not used for over a year.I recently hooked it up to use it.When i did i had no picture and continuous beeping from PC. I tried dusting out inside of PC,cleaning and reseating the RAM and made sure all connection were tight and on.
Still the computer when turned on has no pic and beeps continuosly not in any pattern to tell you errors from the BIOS.
Some say could be video card,it was hooked to the integrated video card,but i also installed one in PCI slot and it does the same thing it beeps and no pic. Also some say could be the battery or another hardware failure.
I am thinking of trying to sell it if i can get it working again it was working a year ago till i set it away because buying a new PC.

My win 8.1 pops out the Start menu bar (dunno what it's officially called but it is a vertical bar with Search, Share, Start, Device, and Setting) when I scroll the right edge of my touchpad (Dell inspiron), and if I tap on the mouse it flips right to the Start screen. I see Microsoft is really doing everything they can to get the users to the Start screen. But this is really annoying because I have no business in the Start screen, unfortunately. i never go there and never will.
How can I stop the windows from doing this?
I know you can sign off but when someone else gets on your computer emails open up for all to see.Is there any way to set it up so you can only view emails by signing in.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhenever I restart my computer I sometimes get in red letters a warning saying you have not plugged in your graphics card and a loud beeping sound. I already checked it and made sure it is fully plugged in, what's going on?
Also, only when restarting it occasionally gives me that warning. Other than that, its fine booting up, never gave me the error. Also if i get the error and press the reset button on the computer it'll do that until I force it to shutdown by holding the power button. And, my display works fine.
In any case, as the topic title says, some keys on my laptop occasionally stop working for some time, before returning back to normal. Sometimes simply pressing the key several times makes it work, sometimes holding it pressed for ten seconds or so works... Sometimes neither of these works. Occasionally, the key starts working it I press it in rapid succession with a key that does work. For example, pressing I, a non-working key, instantly after pressing J, which works perfectly. Sometimes I simply just randomly press keys on my keyboard until the non-working keys start working again. Backspacing seems to make it easier for them to go back to 'non-working state', although this may be just my imagination.
When any one of the keys that sometimes stop working stops working, none of those keys works. And when one starts working again, all of them start working. Although they may return back to non-working state right away. Although it might be just coincidence, and it doesn't actually work that way.
An incomplete list of the keys that occasionally stop working:
(Left) Ctrl, I, O, 2, 7.
There are others, I believe, at least one more number, but I have no way to check until they stop working. And at the time of typing this post, they seem to be working strangely well.Also, the keys are (almost?) always in the 'non-working state' when the laptop wakes from sleep mode and I have to input the password. Luckily, it offers the On-Screen Keyboard option, which, by the way, works perfectly.
And it happens only when I boot the computer up and find that neither my keyboard or mouse are working then I plug them into front (2) avaialable usb ports and they work fine....
And then If I try to uninstall universal bus controllers by device manager then my keyboard + mouse stops working (obviously) then I shutdown via power button .... plug keyboard+mouse again back to rear usb ports... and they start working till few days...
I'm on windows 8.1 x64 with latest updates and all latest drivers etc...
The funny thing is this problem is with me since last 2 years or so... and I changed 3 Power supplies since then and luckily one motherboard, changed 3 mouses and 1 keyboard, 1 Hard disk too
even if they are plugged in rear ports I get "USB Disconnection" sound sometimes....
now thinking about buying a bluetooth keyboard + mouse but there are other things that needed to be plug in into rear ports... or should I go for an internal USB 2.0 PCI card ?
Every time I need to do something on my external hard drive, it has to spin up. I'm using an SSD for my primary HD, so waiting on an external HD to spin up makes me have to wait 4-5 seconds for something to load when it's on my external -- I'm not used to waiting.
Is there a way I can make sure my external HD continues to spin regardless of I'm using it or not? I also notice that I have to wait on it to spin up when I'm shutting down or booting up.
I have a Canon printer-fax and several other printers installed. Listing printers shows the Canon as one printer, both the fax and printer and when I click on it, I have a choice of either the printer or fax. I chose the printer as my default printer. That works for a while, and then the default printer reverts to the last one on my list, in my case Quicken PDF. There does not seem to be any event causing this to change.
How can I keep my selected printer as the default?
I have a problem with keyboard and mouse. Every day when i playing some games my keyboard randomly stop working (backlight on keyboard still light but LED on num lock is off and buttons don't work) after few seconds my mouse also stop working. Plugin to another USB doesn't work. Only when i disconnect keyboard and connect mouse to other USB mouse work. After restarting system all works fine. Im sure keyboard and mouse is good (testing it on laptop when this happens and its work normal). I have updated drivers and BIOS.

I have problem with USB 2.0. The problem first begin with app called (zadig.exe) under options i click List all devices.
I think by mistake i change of the drives after that the USB 2.0 stop working. I have USB 3.0 and its fine. The USB 2.0 can charge my phone and the mouse can work in BIOS ONLY. After going to Win 8 is stop working but it will charge my phone.
I've recently purchased a new laptop with Windows 8.1 pre-installed. First question is how do i enable a confirm window to pop up when deleting something? I don't like how i can just hit delete and it moves it (Only to the recycle bin, but i'd rather it didn't).
Secondly how do i stop the start menu from switching to that Windows 8 menu view? I did originally change it so that when you click the start menu (Bottom left in) it would actually bring up the start menu, but it seems to have reverted. On top of this how do i change it so that pressing the Windows button brings up the start menu rather than the Windows 8 menu view thing?
Thirdly how do i enable file details when in Windows Explorer. So in Windows 7 when you select a file it would give the size, name, author, date last edited etc in the details pane. How do i get that now?
Finally, how do i change my task bars transparency?
When I have a powered usb hub connected, my windows 8 will not start. The same usb hub connected to xp or to windows 7 does not cause problems. But it does in windows 8. So I need to disconnect that hub and start windows 8 without it and connect it after windows 8 has booted. Said hub has two drives attached: 1 32GB and a 1 TB. How come Windows 8 cannot handle it?

I'm on a windows 8 HP Pavillion 15.
Since I installed W8 64x my networks drivers won't start at boot, therefore I have to disable the drivers via Device Manager and re-enable them in order to work. (see attachment for the only error I get - I don't know whether there is a log in another place?)

Now yesterday, when the mouse pad on the laptop froze up, I drummed on it a bit to get it working and the laptop suddenly shut off and this message appears when trying to start up: BootDevice Not Found. Please install an operating system on your hard disk. I am not sure if it is relevant to the physical damage or if it is software related?

The DVD/CD Drive will not auto start any discs, DVD or CD. I have set the auto start at "on" and in the control panel I have it checked to auto play all media. It still does not auto start when I insert a cd or dvd. I can however, manually see the files and play a music CD.
I'm have a problem with a high definition audio device, it says This device cannot start. (Code 10). I have tried updating the driver and deleting and reinstalling the device, nothing has worked.
I can hear sound, but I can not record anything. I have tried several recording devices, like Audacity and MS Recorder and nothing works.

Recently I Recieved A Laptop in gift which I owned in the past which is A Dell XPS 15-L521X. It was running all good but suddenly Today morning when I pressed the power button and it boot through the Dell splash screen and after that It booted normal through the Windows 8 boot screen but after that It stucked at a Black Screen.
I passed on 20-min but it stucked there. No Cursor, nothing except The Black Screen. I ran Dell Pre-Boot System Assesment to check any Hardware failware but no everything is just fine. I remember That My Dell Driver Update Utility Notified me that it installed latest Intel Rapid Start Technology Driver on my last boot but I dont know whether its causing the error but The Intel Rapid Start Technology is very essential for SSD users so why will it cause errors?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've made some configuration error but I can't remember what. I have a SD card with recovery drive on it which has been sat in my card reader for ever. Yesterday (I'm not sure if this is related) I was trying to make a Windows to go drive using 8.1 Enterprise Preview in a VirtualBox VM. This was to be on another USB key and didn't work as it was incompatible. This key is not in the machine.
Anyhow now when I restart I always boot to the SD card recovery drive. I have to take it out to boot normally.
BIOS shows C:/ top of boot order and msinfo shows C:Windows is the default (and only) boot entry.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI think the first time I've noticed something's up was when updating Flash - it would stop at 99% for a very long time and eventually give an error message saying to check my internet connection or something. Well, but I did look and I'm still online. Then, I was to download some software for my phone - but the download won't complete. Neither in Firefox, nor Opera, nor silly old IE or Chrome. If I tried it in Safari, I bet it also wouldn't work (yes, I have that many browsers installed, just in case). It's just not browser-related.
Disk space? Mate, my computer is 3 TB of memory, no chance. A virus? My anti-virus never failed me, it does a great job at blocking nasties, and I performed TWO full scans, and yet it found nothing suspicious. Is it blocking? Don't think so either, it would say that something was stopped.

But I do not want other PC users (different user accounts on the same computer) to access that folder. I know they might not be able to view the files but I also don't want them to see the content inside the folder.
Can it be done with the same old 'folder permission' settings? If yes, how to do that?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI don't want necessarily to remove SKyDrive but it annoys the hell out of me when my files go to it and not to Documents which is where I want them. I do not know how to stop Skydrive being the first port of call for all my saved files or how to replace it with the good old fashioned Documents File. I am sure I am not alone in thinking that the Microsoft techies did a lousy job trying to better Win7 with this appalling Windows 8.1. I am about to buy a new laptop but what was once a real pleasure is now going to be a pain in the neck to have to get a new laptop with Windows 8 on it.
