Attempting To Watch Movies - Silverlight Crashes In XFinity On Windows 8?
Oct 7, 2012
Newly installed windows 8, and attempting to watch movies on Xfinity. the movie starts, runs for about 2 seconds, and then Silverlight chrashes.I installed the newest Silverlight, and Windows 8 is running in 64 bit.
On a windows computer, running the official Windows 8, 64 bit software, silverlignt crashes in the XFINITY site. No problem running Silverlight for NETFIX. Any updates/ Reported the problem in the pre-release version. someone suggested I go back to Windows 7.
trying to set up my sky go on windows 8.1 pro i have downloaded the silverlight as they requested then i keep getting silverlight plug in has crashed..
can sky go be set up on windows 8? what do i need to stop it from crashing?
Using windows 8.1 pro. While using facebook I wanted to watch a part film via a youtube link, so far ok but as soon as you go to full screen etc everything freezes the up comes the directive windows fixing problem, then ok but still cannot get full page,
I have 2 accounts on this PC, one is a MS account, the other is the built-in Administrator account, which I renamed and assigned a complex password to make it difficult for anyone to get into. However, I recently disabled the Admin account with the "net user administrator /active:no" command, and then deleted both the Administrator and Enigma (the name which I renamed it to) folders in C:Users. I also went into Control Panel and made sure that the user is gone, it does not appear now. I can still log into my PC via the MS account since it has admin rights.
But after rebooting the Admin/Enigma account still appears on the login screen and asks for a password. So I reenter the old password and it then hangs with a "Preparing Windows" message. Then I do a hard reset and log into the MS account, I can see that a TEMP folder has been created at C:Users, which I assume was created as a result of trying to log in as Admin/Enigma. I'm not sure, but I'm guessing that the PC still remembers the password and other info associated with the account, and that info must still be stored somewhere in the Registry. That seems to be the only logical cause of the issue.
So, I need locating that info and resetting it, because I intend to reactivate Admin again, but this time I'm going to leave it alone. I had deleted it in the 1st place because of the appearance of 2 usernames for the account at C:Users, and found that odd, so I figured I could get rid of both and then recreate/reset. I rarely use the account anyways because it is a security risk, and only to do a handful of things that I've had trouble doing with the MS account, despite it having admin privilidges.
I have a Toshiba Encore, which I updated. When I start it up it has the message 'Preparing Automatic repair', then a black screen and a Windows windows flashes up for a split second. I then get the message 'Diagnosing your PC', the 'Attempting Repairs'.
I then get a blue screen with the title 'Automatic Repair' with the message: Automatic Repair couldnt repair your PC...... Log file C:windowssystem32logfilessrtsrttrail.txt
There are two options 'Shutdown' and 'Advanced options'.
'Advanced options' gives: Continue'- exit to windows 8.1 'Use a device' 'Troubleshoot' 'Turn off your PC'
Troubleshoot gives: 'Refresh your PC' 'Reset your PC' 'Toshiba maintenece' 'Advanced Options'
Advanced Options gives: 'System restore'- ive tried this but there are no restore points 'System image recovery' 'Start up repair'- Tried this, just goes to 'Preparing automatic repair' 'Command prompt'- This works 'UEFI Firmware Settings' 'Start-up Settings'- Tried this, just goes to 'Preparing automatic repair'
So apart from refreshing and resetting which I haven't tried yet, I can get into a Command prompt. The command prompt starts in X:. When I open Notepad and browse the file system i notice that X: is called 'Boot'. I'm wondering whether the 8.1 update has put something on my PC that makes it try to boot from X: instead of C:. Is there any way I can check what drive the PC is trying to boot from?
The log file states Root cause found: Boot manager failed to find OS loader Repair action: File repair Result:failed. Error code 0xa
Repair action: Boot configuratio data store repair Result:failed. Error code 0x490
I have a Toshiba laptop, it's less then a year old and came with Windows 8 pre-installed, so i don't have a disc. Last night i was watching a movie on it when it froze up, i had no choice but to force reboot as it was unresponsive but when it rebooted it when straight to diagnosing and attempting repairs! I left it over night to allow it to repair but it never made it past that screen.
It's less then a year old and it hadn't had a single issue up until last night? I've tried rebooting to watch for options watch for booting options but it doesn't give me any choices at all just goes straight to Diagnosing and attempting repairs!
I tried to watch downloaded .avi movies with Windows Media Player, and the video quality is very poor, can see blocks and artifacts everywhere. When I watch the same movies with VLC, it is clear. I think it is a codec problem. What is the best codec to apply to Windows 8 Media Player, so we can watch movies clearly?
I know that Windows 8 doesn't come with the ability to read DVD movies, by default, but I was told it was as easy as installing a multimedia player like VLC, Media Player Classic Home Cinema or PotPlayer. Well, I tried all of them and everytime I insert a DVD movies, the multimedia software hangup when trying to read the DVD. What's up with my setup?
I purchased a Inspiron 17 7737 directly from [URL] on 12/5/2013. It was delivered on 12/182013. It had Windows 8 as the operating system. I had assumed that it would have the latest version of Windows when it arrived since 8.1 had been issued in October. I opened the Store app and the upgrade to Windows 8.1 was not available to me. I understood that this was a problem for others and did not pursue it further at that time. I was out of town for 2 weeks in January and did not use the laptop during that 2 week period. When I returned, I opened the Store and found prominently placed the invitation to the free upgrade to 8.1. I was signed in using the Administrator account and when I hit the download button for 8.1. I was given the message "You need to use an account with Administrator privileges to install Windows 8.1, try logging in with the user account of an administrator of this PC and try update again".
I verified that my account had Administrator privileges and tried again and got the same message. I created another user account and gave it administrator privileges and tried the download again signed in on that account and got the same message. I called technical support and for over 5 hours over 2 different days, the technician attempted to resolve the issue by uninstalling and reinstalling Windows updates. When that failed to resolve the problem, he "refreshed" my PC which, I understood put it back to the status it was in at time of delivery. He then had to do all the Windows updates (approximately 65) and tried to download 8.1 again.
This did not change the error message when trying to download to 8.1. At that point, I was told that they were elevating it to a technical team who would research all the logs from my machine and come up with a solution. They indicated that they would call me back when a solution is found. Although my Administrator account was not recognized when attempting to do the 8.1 download, it recognized the Administrator role when the technician needed administrative approval to do all the uninstall and reinstall activities when trying to resolve the issue.
I am getting access denied when attempting to get into a folder. Just recently installed Windows8. I had the same issue with win7, but I managed to resolve it. What do I need to do to get around this? I don't remember ever having had a problem with simply getting into one of my own folders.
Windows8, 64x, i3, 4gb samsung 300e can not generate its health report. I did sfc scan(found some corrupted file but says it could not repaired some of them), hard disk and memory test(fine), disk cleanup done and I have tried exclusive microsoft services system start up (msconfig settings) but still failed to generate report.
At first I thought maybe it was the one movie(battleship), but after subsequent testing with different dvd movies, I have to ask, is it normal for the dvd drive to sometimes not recognize theres a disc loaded?
I've got cyberlink power dvd 9.0, which has a dvd movie playback codec.. so its not a software issue.
I've also got vlc media player which comes with a dvd movie playback codec, so again, not a software issue
Could this be my drive showing signs of premature impending failure on a machine just under a year old? or is this windows stuffing up and not recognizing theres a disc loaded?
So I my computer was really lagging one day so I restarted it like always. I turned it on, and it just has an infinite loop saying "Attempting repairs" and "Diagnosing your PC." I did get this one screen where it said "We need to restart your pc, click OK or click Advanced settings." I went to YouTube and I did what it said. It worked for every one else BUT me. I don't remember what I did but it didn't work. Now it's stuck at this loop of death. How to wipe it because I don't have anything on there I NEED.
This happened when I attempted to back up all my Steam Games into one file. It crashed and now I'm stuck iwth a Folder within a Folder which as a really long name (basically about 50 names) I cannot delete the file. It's advising me to rename it which I've tired but fail miserably. I attempted to use CMD like this:
C:UsersName>DEL "?ESteam Backup Games"
?ESteam Backup Games*, Are you sure (Y/N) Y
Nothing happens.. the folder is still there.
I'm pretty much stuck and I cannot remove this folder.
I also created another similar to this but the Folders are empty and the name of both the folders is called "Steam BackUp Games 2" yet i can't shift+del it...
I transferred many music files from a backup drive onto a new laptop running Windows 8, and found most renamed as numbered files with a .ptl extension. Found out that my backup drive (Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex) doesn't like long filenames and renames them as referenced above. ("ptl" stands for "path too long"). I have been renaming them, dumping the ptl extension to get the files back as mp3's, but I get a confirmation window that I have to click "yes" to for each and every change I attempt. I'd love to kill the confirm popup for every file I change, it doubles the time involved for each file and I have enough work just renaming the files back to their original names. I've looked all over the control panel for something to uncheck to accomplish this, with no success.
Trying to find a decent program to create a DVD from rips / downloads of movies such as MP4 / MKV etc is a pain --there's the PAID for version CONVERTXTODVD but a good one is the FREE Linux program DEVEDE (works on .RPM distros (Opensuse, fedora etc) and there's also a version for DEBIAN/LINUX MINT and UBUNTU. The created DVD will play DVD's in stand alone DVD players.
Read the documentation as it's a little bit confusing -- also ensure you have the FFMPEG package installed and either MKISOFS or the CDR-TOOLS (or any other package that contains the mkisofs library). Ignore any missing dependencies when installing using your package manager - it's usually looking for mkisofs which is often incorporated into other libraries --it works OK.
Program will add subtitles too if you want it and you can adjust the disk usage (quality will adjust to the amount of DVD space you use.
Works either on a Linux HOST or a Virtual machine - I'm testing mine on a "Portable Linux" booted up on a USB3 thumb drive.
Here's how to use the program -- the link refers to UBUNTU but the program is the same on other distros too.
I have a new HP ENVY 700-147C with 12GB RAM running win 8.1 & I have a vexing problem; I can easily mount an iso file to virtual drive from windows explorer but I am not able to play it with PowerDVD or any other player.. It sees the virtual drive but it does not load the movie only the VIDEO & AUDIO_TS folders with the VOB files are seen.
However, PowerDVD will automatically play a movie on dvd disk when it is inserted into the player & it can play it from windows explorer by right clicking on the dvd drive & 1 of the choices is "Play with Cyberlink Powerdvd." When I right click a virtual drive containing an ISO file from my HDD, showing drive letter & title, just like the DVD disk, the "Play With Cyberlink PowerDVD" choice does not appear.
Yesterday when I watched one of my favourite movies with Pot Player I got the BSOD and my computer automatically rebooted itself. I followed the procedure by making .zip file with SF_Diagnostic_Tool.exe and I uploaded the .zip in my thread.
I only just very recently received this laptop as a gift, but as soon as I started watching movies on my Netflix account I noticed that the screen would briefly go black then return to my program. This happens very often, once every 2 to 5 minutes. And this only happens when I'm trying to watch movies. Browsing and game play is flawless. What could be the issue? It was recommended that I install Windows 8.1 upon setting up my laptop, so I did just that. I didn't play around with Windows 8 beforehand, though, so I don't know if the problem is the operating system or not.
I'm having random freezes on my Windows 8.1 64bit computer.
I built a custom PC last year and everything is working well until it is around 6-10 months old. Random freezes started occuring. I tried doing reformat but the problem does not go away. Figuring that it may be the problem of Windows 7, I upgraded to windows 8.1 and also added a SSD to use it as a primary drive. 1 week into windows 8.1 and SSD the problem started occuring again, sometimes even when I'm just browsing the internet without viewing videos.
-windows 7+1TB HDD(OS), having a crash -upgraded to windows 8.1+128GB SSD (OS)+1TB HDD(secondary drive), having a crash
I turned file paging off on my SSD and allocated 8GB of virtual memory to my secondary drive. When the crash happens, no BSOD occurs, my screen just freezes and I'm forced to do a hard reset. When there is sound playing while the crash happens, the sound will keep looping until I did a hard reset.
I have a problem that started yesterday. Every 30 seconds Windows Explorer (not the browser) crashes, then restarts. I run Xmarks within FireFox, I thought this was the problem because Xmarks as of yesterday asks me every 40 seconds if I want to sync my bookmarks, if I choose cancel, Windows Explorer will crash then restart.
When Firefox is closed, Explorer continues to crash and restart, almost every 30-35 seconds. I have Windows 8.1 up to date, with all the latest updates, FireFox is up to date. As of writting this post, Windows Explorer has crashed and restarted (5) times.
My Sony Vaio Tap 11 (model: SVT1121C5E) runs very unstable ever since I bought it about 3 months ago. Almost every day the system crashes, sometimes multiple times. Sometimes with prior bluescreen, Windows colleting data and then stopping at 100%.
Occasionally the device shuts down and automatically restarts.Sometimes the screen becomes black and the device can be turned off only by holding the power-button for a few seconds.
I'm running Windows 8.1 and all the current device-drivers, bios-update and Windows-updates are installed.
The event-viewer has some "Event41, Kernel-Power" entries in the category "critical such as following:
Been trying to run fifa12 in windows 8 for a while without success. Initially it asked for .net3,3.5 framework and i installed it. Still its not working. It enters the gamescreen and crashes out in few seconds. The setup menu gives direct3d .net framework exception. have also updated the dirctx runtime.
Every time I go to control panel and then hardware and then to touchpad settings I get a crash after making whatever change I want and clicking OK to finish and close. I don't know what the shell common dll is or why it fails but it gets old.
