i have window 7 ,when i use external hard disk to gat the data ,my system shows the disk in c drive ,but when i try to open,my computer doesn't respond ..its says computer not responding
View 2 RepliesMy Windows 7 Dell Studio 1550 laptop computers disc drive has been acting up for a little while now, like having to insert a DVD twice before it starts to autoplay with Windows Media Player (WMP). Just little things like that. Now when I try to play my audiobook I got today and it isn't recognized by WMP. When the look in Windows Explorer the files it contains are garbage- default style files of size 1kb with default track names like: Track01, Track02....Thinking that it could be that the CD might be readable on normal car CD players and similar, I double check with an old CD that I burnt myself a couple weeks ago. It doesn't recognize that either and it Win Explorer displays the same garbage.WM Player does literally nothing when it is told to play to it, and VLC tells me that:"Your input can't be opened: In desperation I try the original CD in my gaming tower. It plays but now it refuses to eject the disk. It has a LG MODISC CD/DVD-RW with Lightscribe in it.

I have noticed on websites that have an contact via email that nothing happens when double clicking it, other than seeing mailto: appearing on FF status bar.At other times I have seen it produce an error window in Outlook saying script isn't running/ Outlook client isn't installed properly.On second bootable drive, with Win XP Pro and Firefox with same Outlook 2003, it works flawlessly. Even if Outlook isn't open, it will start it up straight into new message with correct email address in the To field.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have recently (After yesterday's Windows Update) gotten a weird problem.
As I log in normally to my computer, the Network Sharing Center doesn't respond, nor does the icon down in the taskbar. I have tried the solutions you can find by googling to fix this - none helped.
That is not everything, every application that wants to use Internet connection freezes as they try to do so.
I got it fixed temporarily by using the System Restore to restore the system to the point before the Windows Updates were applied, but that is not an option anymore, because the restore point is no longer there.
Windows does not let me uninstall updates in Safe Mode, and as Windows Update accesses Internet to do so - it too freezes during a normal login.
Any suggestions?

When I leave my computer on for a bit and walk away, the screen will turn off by itself (this is not standby!!!) and sometimes, the keyboard or mouse seems to have lost its connection to the computer, and will not respond to anything, I have to hit the reset button.
I have this windows 7 for year and not have problems until now. Now the windows doesn't respond when it works and only the mouse fan move, but with cursor in position of loading. ctrl+alt+delete doesn't work and only shut down the computer can work. I tried use "safe mode" and the sound driver didn't work. I succeeded to do recovery two times but the problem repeat on itself. I tried to scan for virus but there wasn't. How can I handle it?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI Can't seem to figure out what went wrong. I think it needs a Device driver update of some sort. I am running Windows 7 64 bit off of an original MS DVD that was installed only about a month ago. I built this system a little over a year ago. I have since pulled some memory sticks (sent for RMA) as they gave me random BSOD because of memory errors. When I try to install updates it gives me a BSOD. I have tried to do a system restore but it says it is unable to complete. Any Ideas? See attachment for dump files.
View 8 Replies View RelatedWhen I'm using the computer...at very random times, the screen goes black, then a blue window pops up telling me it has gone into power safe mode. I'm assuming, when this happens the computer freezes because, when I hit the hot key I set up on my keyboard to shut down, nothing happens...So, the only option I have is unplugging or holding the power button until the machine shuts off. Then, I restart.When I try my hotkey for shut down during normal usage, it works just fine, but not when the monitor decides to take a coffee break and leave me hanging.If I was doing something lame, like work, it wouldn't be so bad, but right in the middle of online gaming??? COME ON!To sneak another question in...which might, very well, be linked to the issue above, the computer freezes at random times as well. Especially, at startup. I have to hold the power button 3 or 4 times...with beep beep beeps...until it finally decides to show for work and do what its job description states.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI was recently changing a network printer but the PC seemed slow when adding a new printer. I removed the unused devices and restarted the computer. Now when I try to open devices and printers I just get the green bar at the top and nothing shows up.On a side note (I assume it is related) at the same time the printer issue showed up I noticed that I can't get Word to open at all and when I go to page layout in Excel, Excel locks up.I have tried a clean boot and everything behaves the same. I have tried using Fix it for printer problems and the program seems to get stuck when checking for spooler errors.I have also done a search and found the posts about restarting the Blutooth services.

Whenever I try and access Windows Explorer nothing happens. It lights up for a bit like it has been selected but the window never actually opens. Task Manager indicates that Windows Explorer never actually opened. I need an answer to my problem soon because it is essential that I am able to manage my computers files.

File|Open and File|Save As does not work at all for any application. Basically nothing happens, the dialog never opens an in my mail is not possible to upload files.. nothing, the common dialog to handle files never opens. I tried to type sfc/scannow in DOS mode (cmd). But didnt work because it said that I must be the administrator but the problem is that I am the administrator (I am the only user and register as admin).

View 1 Replies View Relatedmy monitor exhibited signs of flickering during start-up, but only minor ones and would just stop at the 'Welcome' screen of windows so I didn't give it much thought. Iv'e been using it with the cpu the same time I bought the monitor.But after some time, the flickering got worse. It went from 1-2 second interval flickers to a whole 10 seconds of blackness before it showed anything.Now,Iv'e got a new cpu but still using the old monitor. After a day or so, the monitor exhibited the first symptoms of my first cpu, so I just dismissed it. But after a week, It got a hell worse, before I even start-up my computer, the monitor doesn't show Analog/Digital at the top-left corner of the screen. PLUS my cpu keeps restarting after I pushed the ON button after 10 seconds or so. Is the monitor responsible for the restart and what could be the reason for the flickering?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a problem running Patran 2007 in Windows 7, the program seems to run fine, and I am able to open data bases and work on them. The problem comes in when I want to either save the database, open a new database or just open a current database. For each of these functions a new smaller window pops up so I can navigate to the correct file or path to click on it or whatever.
Initially the window opens as I would expect, but as soon as I move the mouse or try to use the keyboard to navigate, the window goes blank and I can do nothing with it. Strangely, using the compatibility setting to open the program in a 640x480 display, they do seem to work fine, but because of the small resolution, I cannot actually see the part of the window where the files are - so that also doesn't help me.
It seems as though there is something between Patran and Windows that one of them don't like, but it baffles me that everything else works fine. If any one else has had the same problem, maybe with a different program even, let me know what you did to resolve it. Otherwise any advise would be useful.
The other day I went to restart my computer, on restart it showed the motherboard info for longer than usual maybe 10-20 secs then proceeded to boot windows. About 2-3 days later I was doing a few things, computer froze so I manually had to shut off and turn back on the computer and it would show the motherboard information and not do anything from there just sit there. Tried to boot again maybe 3 times and nothing changed. Everything powered up fine ect ect. Took the case off looked at a few things, everything looked fine. Turned it back on and it booted right away like normal. Didn't have the keyboard plugged in so I had to restart again and was going to anyways to see what it would do and it booted just fine again.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got a Dell Insprion 1470 and it never worked right (I would return it for a new one but first Freak Squad has to "fix" it).When booting it will sometimes freeze at the windows logo, just go black, go into start up repair, go into safe mode, all kinds of stuff.I have ran many tests/programs and they all say nothing is wrong.

I've updated BIOS and all drivers, Ive defragged and ran CCleaner.I ran the full system scan in Dell Support Center.
Yesterday I was using my laptop as normal and suddenly the internet disconnected, and then refused to reconnect. I tried to troubleshoot in Network and Sharing Centre but nothing came up, so I restarted to see if this helped. After restarting the internet still wasn't working (I have a wireless connection) so I thought the problem may have been due to a system update that was installed that morning, so I did a system restore to that point. However, upon restarting, the computer stopped on a black screen.I then turned the laptop off at the switch and back on again, however the computer got to the stage that the log-in screen should come up and remained black. Now, whenever I try to turn the computer on, it gets to just before the log-in screen and remains black (however the mouse remains on screen and can be moved) - also, Safe Mode doesn't start either and stops at a black screen shortly after I choose to start it.

I've just received my Western Element 2,5Tb today. When I first plugged it in, it worked normally. But due to my over-excitement, I copied too much files at the same time and it wasn't working anymore. I regretted doing this immediately.
I have searched on the internet to find some solutions but all of them didn't work. I've checked the Computer Management, Disk Management, but nothing about my External HD showed up. In the notification area, my laptop still detected it and I can removed it properly [even though i can't use it at all].
I tried to connect to my USB and another Samsung 500Gb HDD. And it worked perfectly fine. Then, I tried to connect my new HDD to my sister's lap [she is using Window Vista] and it worked perfectly fine too.
I just bought a NIB (New In Box) Windows 7 computer and I have run into a problem I have not seen and don't know what to do with. I keep my computer password protected due to financial and other sensitive information I have on it. Whenever I am away for an extended period I lock my computer using the Windows Key - L combination.If I am only away for short periods of time everything is fine but if I am away from my computer for an extended period and I try to wake my computer up it won't come out of hibernation and I have to use the power switch to shut it down and restart it and of course I get the "Windows did not shut down normally" screen.I like to leave my computer on for convenience and to get Windows updates but I now hesitate to do this if I am going to have to deal with it not coming out of hibernation every time I am away for a long period. I suppose I could always leave it on but this uses a lot of power as well as wear and tear on moving parts.

When I chose "start normally," it shows the windows boot screen for a while, then restarts to the toshiba start screen, and the same menu again. If I chose "system repair," it shows an older type of windows boot screen, says something to the effect of "loading files" the the screen goes black, and the cursor comes up, and can be moved. I have left it on this blank screen for hours, and nothing has happened.

basically what happens is im using my computer and suddenly it freezes. At first I thought the whole computer freezes but I soon realized this is not the case. My mouse pointer remains free and i can move it while everything else freezes. The strange part is that the actual computer doesnt freeze, I know this because of some things I observed in this "frozen" state:
- if i have itunes running before it freezes , I can still hit the pause/play buttons and switch songs after it freezes by clicking on them in the itunes interface. The selected song plays, and hitting the pause/play buttons do what they should, but nothing changes on the screen, it remains "frozen"
- if i double click a program from a desktop icon I get the loading mouse pointer as if the program is loading but the screen remains frozen so i dont actually see the program pop up.
so basically what I thought was my computer freezing is really just my screen freezing, the computer is running fine in the "background" as I can still do certain tasks, but the screen doesnt update to reflect these tasks.
What could be the problem? I had this same exact issue like half a year back and it one day just went away so I never bothered with it but here it is, its back and its really annoying because i have to hard restart my computer every time it happens.
Sometimes it happens out of nowhere, but I noticed it happens most of the time when my computer "shakes". Like when i get up and bang my knee on the desk, it freezes. or when i walk like an elephant in my room, it freezes.. etc. But sometimes it happens when im sitting perfectly still also so I dont even know if the shaking is really what causes it
