View 2 RepliesI had wondows 7 ultimate running on my internet machine for 2 weeks. Almosi every day 3 or 4 times a day i would get a completely blank dislplay and then the machine would shut down. There were no critical errors that i could find.So i installed Ubuntu 12.04 on the same machine with no changes at all. Ubuntu 12.04 is very resource intensive. After 48 hours of running not one crash , blank screen, or any other major problem.I had the same windows 7 problem on my self built and the dell gx280 i had it installed on. Same problem completely different machines.I do not think i will be going back to windows , as the experience stated above explains windows 7 is still in need of a lot of development work. When i ran win95 second edition was the last time i have experiences with windows like i have had with windows 7.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI didn't think my PC had a problem, I just wished to start it in Safe Mode to do a thorough virus scan.
I could not do so using F8, and when looking at forums to find out why, I see there is a small window of opportunity before the windows logo starts for you to use F8 - unfortunately, for some reason my screen is completely blank until the Windows 7 blue screen appears with the dove, and then my log-in. I don't get anything else before that, nothing loading, nada. But it starts fine.
I remember when I installed Windows 7 (legal copy) that I DID have the normal 'windows starting' and logo - I don't know why it is not showing now! This seems to be my problem starting in Safe Mode, it is difficult to judge the window of opportunity when your screen is blank. Apparently you can use msconfig to reboot in safe mode, but some forums advise against this because malware can use this to keep you in a loop that cannot start..... I am worried now that I have a malware that's stopping me from entering safe mode..
Any advice from the more knowledgeable ? Sorry to babble on, I suppose I need to know why I am not getting the windows logo starting (is it an indicatino of a problem)and is it safe to use msconfig in this case, to boot it in safe mode.
I have a Acer laptop that is currently running build 7068 (specs available at the side there for full info). Since build 7000 I have been doing update installs, which have worked find (save a few glitches here and there), and I wanted to do a clean install of build 7100. However, when i boot from CD or USB pen, as soon as the Windows Logo disappears, the mouse cursor appears for a second (against a black screen), and then all I get is a completely blank screen, no disc accesses, CD accesses, nothing.
If I do the install from within Windows (again a clean install), the files copy across okay, but as soon as it rebooots during expanding, I get the same again, a blank screen and nada!!!!
I'm not sure if it's the graphics card at fault, or what, but surely if the beta build had enough drivers, this should. Could anyone suggest anything that may help?
when i start my laptop the screen is not showing any thing if shows then some time blank and lining
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was using my Dell laptop today. All of a sudden the OS just shut everything down quickly and shut down. There was no error or anything like that. It just shut down.
Upon booting, I was given a screen to enter the bitlocker recovery key. I tracked it down and entered it into the laptop. The laptop then tried to boot, but blue screened. In typical MS fashion, the blue screen showed for about 1/352352th of a second so I couldn't get any real information about the error.
I tried the boot system recover option that the os presented. I tried the option to recover from the last recovery point or to recover the other way. Each time the system booted back to the same problem.
My toshiba satellite wont start. goes straight to blank screen with flashing mouse no cursor. on blank screen no error messages wont start from recovery disk

View 4 Replies View RelatedFirst off, let me say that I realize that turn off my computer during the update configuration was a terrible idea.Anyway, there isn't much I can say besides that my computer just won't start up. I've tried safe mode, I've tried system restores, but they both failed. I'd supply you with crash logs, but I'm not entirely sure how.All attempts at a system restore failed and came up as an error, and when I tried to do a disk check, it said my disc was write protected.Let me know if there is any more information I can supply.

View 1 Replies View RelatedEverything shows up fine until the welcome screen after that it normally used to fade to the desktop but now it goes blank. The screen in Black with only the mouse pointer. Its not hung, i can move the mouse pointer. Then after a minute or so it advances to the desktop. Everything on the desktop loads up in less than 5s. The PC runs fine, it is really fast as there are only a few programs, but only boots slow. My total boot time is about 3-5 min. I think it should be like in a minute or so.I have not tweaked much with the system but have installed a few programs like MS office, Nero, Acrobat and Photoshop. These are the only heavy programs in the PC right now. The only games on the PC are AC1 and AC2. I have uninstalled my graphic driver and reinstalled. I already minimized the programs in the msconfig>startup to the minimum. I have run ccleaner, spybot s&d, Antimalware and i also have a trial copy of Kaspersky AV (upgrading later to 1-year license). there are no peripherals attached during boot except the USB keyboard and mouse. A printer is attached too but is most of the time turned off.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have an Acer Aspire one netbook that's 3 months old running on Windows 7. Around 3 weeks ago it started getting stuck on the shut down screen, and then it wouldn't shut down or restart from the start menu. This meant I had to remove the battery or hibernate the netbook when I wasn't using it. I fixed this so it would shut down by doing a system restore from a previous restore point. However after a week it's gone back to not shutting down from the start menu. Acer told me to do a complete system restore, but I'd rather not because I need all of my files for my uni work.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm at my whit's end with this. My PC shuts down fine but hangs on restart. It does this is both safe and normal mode. It appears to hang right before the HD would get turned off. The SHUTTING DOWN screen proceeds fine and the HD stops it's activity, the screen goes black (the HD light stays) and it just hangs there. Pressing the RESET button on the PC starts it up fine. If I am restarting from some utility (for example when installing Windows) it can hang with the RESTARTING WINDOWS screen.

I don't like the way Windows 7 show me the "startup menu"... what I mean is I don't want to see the few software or document i've open recently when I press the "Windows icon" (aka Start).
I need to press "Show all programs" to see all my folder. Even if I go in the config of the toolbar, and I choose 0 to see the last program (by default is 10), it's only show a big white startup menu, but i need again to click (or leave my mouse for few second) the "show all program".
I just want to know of there is a way to see directly the "program" folder when I click the windows logo.
does anyone know what I can do about this problem?

When I open the start menu whether it be with the windows key or mouse click a right click menu pops up and appears to be right clicked inside the search bar, I tested this by copying some text and clicking paste on the auto right click menu.
It stays there until I click something but will come back within 1 second or until I stop holding the mouse button.
