Dec 19, 2012my laptop shut off then rebooted to a blank screen with invalid partition table at the top.It will go to start up screen,and get to bios but other than that nothing.

Blank Screen Then Random Shut Down?
Jul 9, 2012I had wondows 7 ultimate running on my internet machine for 2 weeks. Almosi every day 3 or 4 times a day i would get a completely blank dislplay and then the machine would shut down. There were no critical errors that i could find.So i installed Ubuntu 12.04 on the same machine with no changes at all. Ubuntu 12.04 is very resource intensive. After 48 hours of running not one crash , blank screen, or any other major problem.I had the same windows 7 problem on my self built and the dell gx280 i had it installed on. Same problem completely different machines.I do not think i will be going back to windows , as the experience stated above explains windows 7 is still in need of a lot of development work. When i ran win95 second edition was the last time i have experiences with windows like i have had with windows 7.

Jul 9, 2012I have a three year old HP laptop running Windows 7 (64 bit) that is misbehaving. It would not boot up recently, and I believe the root was heat related issues. My son likes to use it while setting on his bed - fan gets covered up and the laptop overheats. I added some large rubber feet to the bottom to improve clearance for the fan and that has helped, to a point. The laptop will boot and I can log into my son's account. After 5-10 minutes, the screen goes blank (50% grey scale, neither bright or completely dark). At that point, nothing seems to bring the screen back, so it is unusable and a hard shut down is necessary. I have cleaned it with Malware Bytes in the past and now have Microsoft Security Essentials installed, so I think/hope any virus issues have been resolved. My suspicion is that this is heat related, but exactly what is failing I do not know. Two months ago I replaced the power jack in the laptop and the power supply because of power connection problems. The battery is shot and will not hold a charge, so the laptop can not be used unless it is connected to the power supply. Since I replaced the power supply and jack, the laptop has been functioning okay. It would crash on occasion, but I attributed that to malware. I had to purge the hard drive earlier this year and restore the system because of a malware infestation.

When I got back online, every website that uses PWs had to be logged back into. Sites that I never have to log into once I've done it once.

Oct 29, 2012It worked ok up to now apart from many times when I clicked the back button it would not bring the privious page instead, it would bring blank page and then i had to close and start from beginning. today it worked ok until an hour ago, when the screen suddenly turned blank. i tried to shut down from the on/off button but the screen still blank and no button would have any effect on the screen.

I have windows 7 and when I go to start the laptop up it shows the HP screen then goes to the windows screen like its loading but then goes back to the hp logo and is stuck. Dec 31, 2010Everything shows up fine until the welcome screen after that it normally used to fade to the desktop but now it goes blank. The screen in Black with only the mouse pointer. Its not hung, i can move the mouse pointer. Then after a minute or so it advances to the desktop. Everything on the desktop loads up in less than 5s. The PC runs fine, it is really fast as there are only a few programs, but only boots slow. My total boot time is about 3-5 min. I think it should be like in a minute or so.I have not tweaked much with the system but have installed a few programs like MS office, Nero, Acrobat and Photoshop. These are the only heavy programs in the PC right now. The only games on the PC are AC1 and AC2. I have uninstalled my graphic driver and reinstalled. I already minimized the programs in the msconfig>startup to the minimum. I have run ccleaner, spybot s&d, Antimalware and i also have a trial copy of Kaspersky AV (upgrading later to 1-year license). there are no peripherals attached during boot except the USB keyboard and mouse. A printer is attached too but is most of the time turned off.

Oct 3, 2009I've been using my laptop for a while now and had a friend install Windows 7 onto it (because i'm quite rubbish with this sort of thing) and everything has been going great until a few weeks ago.
I loaded it up one day and everything is going fine until it reaches the part where it's supposed to load the log on screen. Instead of a log on screen all i am getting is a black screen with the cursor. Now i can't give you specs to my computer or anything of the like because i simply don't have access to it but i can give as much aid as possible to help find the problem.
One of the things that happens is that when the black screen & cursor appears if i move the mouse or push any buttons the screen goes VERY dim as if i've put it into a lower power mode or i've taken out the power cable. If i push the power button to turn it off even if it's just a tap on the button the screen will go off immediatly even if the laptop is still running.
One of the green lights that i believe is showing if the hard drive is busy or not flashes during the process but after a minute or so of the black screen it'll stop flashing altogether.
I've tried all three safe modes with all the same results, F8 to system repair has given me no love with startup repair finding NOTHING wrong, memory check running through the process only for the same thing to happen and system restore has no restore points to go to.
I've looked for answers in several places and some say i have to use sticky keys to get the screen to come on but the problem is that as of last nights use i turned sticky keys off for a few minutes so i could play a game and forgot to turn them back on afterwards. I've taken a look around the net and can't find a fix to my problem. Reinstall simply is not an option under my current circumstances so i really need a favourable reply.

Dec 18, 20091) As I'm on a laptop, my power settings are set to balanced. The system turns off the screen after 10 minutes of inactivity (the default setting). When I touch the pad to turn the screen back on, Windows freezes. I'll have to do ALT CTRL Delete to bring up the log-out menu and sign back in again. After I sign back in, Windows work normally. The only way around this I found is to manually change the power settings to prevent the screen from turning off altogether. Is this a known issue?
2) When I put my system to sleep, I find that it will turn on by itself and then shut itself off again. I think this may be related to automatic update at a given time. It happens at night. The system would just turn on and after 20 seconds or so shut itself down.

I can restore reg files by notepad I mean I tried a lot of stuff so is there any CMD command to restore registry or a reg file I can use to restore registry? tried sfc /scanow (i don't think it restore's registry only file's that are modded files that are not from Microsoft).

Jul 17, 2012I also have an old computer with SATA hard drive running XP SP2, it is connected to samsung LCD tv, it was working properly for months but today while i was using it, the screen went blank(black) nothing showing on lcd, I tried every thing i can but of no use, even connected to other monior also but... nothing displaying, Cpu is running but when I tried to turn it off from power button it didnt response, have to switch it off from electric board.

Nov 20, 2011Turns out all my problems were an aged battery, according to the tech shop who reinstalled windows after some deeprooted viruses. But now my laptop won't shut down all the way, but the screen turns off. The keyboard's LEDs stay on, and the fan keeps blowing. It stayed that way for at least five minutes, between me getting a snack and coming back. I don't know if they reinstalled from the disc that shipped with the laptop or gave me a knew windows 7, but this particular issue only started when they reinstalled the OS.

Ok last night i was bored so decided to re-paste my G7 so i opened her up and cleaned the Cpu and Gpu nicely. Did my thing re-pasted her up and put everything back in order.I downloaded some benchmark tools such as Hwinfo, Amd gpu clock tools, cpu-z, gpu-z and aida64.I also have ccleaner installed so far that is all i have as of now besides the bench mark and anti virus tools.
I was running hwinfo and checking my temp's earlier today everything seemed normal as i was curing my tim and making sure the temp's where ok.While i was checking the temps on my g7 i went ahead and downloaded some files on my other pc transferring it to my usb so i could plug my usb and download the files from there. All of a sudden my monitor goes blank and everything seem to be fine all the light's where on except the monitor.So i went ahead and dissembled the g7 to make sure that i wasn't pinching any wires that run to my monitor nothing was wrong there i double checked took a look at all my wires and they where fine.I restarted the pc up 3 times before the picture came back so i decided to run a chkdsk scan and this is what i pulled up.
