View 1 RepliesI have Toshiba satellite L645, win7 home premium; ram 2GB, 32bit. HD 150GB (119 Free)Lately when I shut down the laptop it just hangs there (NOT ALL THE TIME) telling me: shutting down but if I don't hit the button it will go on forever. Once a let it go for about 1hr and at the end I had to hit the button. I don't get any error what so ever.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have had my laptop (Dell Inspiron N7110) for less than a year, and everything has always run smoothly. I performed a format of my hard drive yesterday and installed a clean copy of Windows 7 Home Premium. Everything went fine with the format process, so I didn't think anything was amiss until I tried to shut down the laptop before going to bed. And that's when I discovered that it won't shut down, unless I physically hold down the power button (which I don't like doing, for obvious reasons.) If I choose the "Shut Down" option from the Start menu, the laptop goes through the "Shutting down..." process perfectly fine, but the laptop boots up again immediately upon turning off. So it's like instead of shutting down, the system just does a restart. Which is fine for some things, but I do eventually want to shut down my laptop (I don't like leaving it on overnight in case there's an electrical storm, for example.)
View 1 Replies View RelatedI had an HEUR:Virus.win32generic virus detected by my Kaspersky. I coud not get rid of it, so I deleted the file that it was in. All I remember is that the file ended in avgcorex.dll.Everything else works fine on the computer now except that when I go to start and shut down. The laptop shuts down but it turns itself back on right away.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy computer used to get stuck on shut down on half my shut downs. I had to shut it down by pressing the power button (can doing this regularly damage your computer?)I searched online and i stopped AMD External Events through "msconfig" and the problem disappeared for 6 daysYesterday, my computer hanged so i had to manually shut it downI turn it on and use the internet, windows media player for music, transfer files to drop box for around 2 minutes then i get the BSODgenerated an exception which the error handler did not catch. This appears to be a typical software driver bug and is not likely to be caused by a hardware problem. A third party driver was identified as the probable root cause of this system error. It is suggested you look for an update for the following driver: Unknown
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a HP G71 with windows 7 64bit and its really annoying when I get to 13% battery it says low battery and when it gets to 8% it just shuts down... i was wondering if there was a way to disable that function or if there was a way to completly eliminate this function. Ive searched all the battery settings and have searched the internet and sadly cannot find anything about how to get rid of it.

View 6 Replies View RelatedLaptop will not turn off when I tell it to shut down. The operating system seems to shut down, but the computer itself stays on (case lights and fan are still active) and can only be turned off by holding the power button for 4 seconds. I have tried everything short of re-installing the OS - which I cannot do because of the non-transferable programs I have on this laptop. It is a Dell Vostro 3450 running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.
View 9 Replies View RelatedOk so when I had XP I would always use hibernate and only about once a week I would actually reboot the computer completely. Now that I have Windows 7 I would like to do the same. But now when I click hibernate the screen goes black and everything shuts off but the computer acts like its in standby. The lights are still on and computer is running.
Once this happens I cannot get back into windows or reboot without holding down the power button to force a reset. Each time that I have done with Windows 7 boots an error saying the computer was not shutdown correctly. Anyone know why it won't completely power off when I click hibernate. I have tried it about 5 separate times and it has not worked once.
My laptop does not shut down fully when I click on shutdown. The only way everything is shut down is using the power button. I also have some performance issues I have 2 drivers that are causing the laptop to run slowly - intel graphics kernal mode driver and Windows driver foundation mode.

I powered off my computer (causing it to force close the McAfee scan) and everything was going fine until it froze during the force close. I kept hitting power to no avail, and the laptop doesn't have a removable battery. It's been like this for 2 hours now.

View 4 Replies View RelatedNow the laptop wont boot into Windows. How do I fix this? I went to "repair my computer" then went to "reinstall windows while keeping my old files". Little did I know that this laptop had a broken power jack and was running off of battery. The computer shut down on stage 4/5. I have no CDs and used the option within the partition to reinstall. How do I reinstall windows now and keep my files after this... ? Did I lose all my files?
When I press f8 now to go to "Repair my Computer" it goes to Windows Boot Manager and says that windows has failed to start... Insert windows installation disk... Boot failed - required disk is inaccessible.
my laptop shut off then rebooted to a blank screen with invalid partition table at the top.It will go to start up screen, and get to bios but other than that nothing.

She has been having trouble for a long time with the darned thing not wanting to shut down. I'm going to quote her description to me in an email and hope that someone has some ideas. I'm trying to help her out because she is not comfortable with going into forums and doing this. "It turns off some times right away. But then a few times it sits and waits to shut off. If I close the lid it only shuts down the screen but the computer is still running. Then later it turns back on as I hear the start up tone. Then I can click off again and it shuts down. If I don't turn it off then it shuts down after it use all the power."

Over the past two months or so, we have noticed that it will not shut down - the screen goes black (like it should) but the power switch shows that the computer stays on. This also happens when we tried shutting down in safe mode. Any ideas how to fix this? Could it be related to some f the drivers not loading?
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy HP laptop has been in shutdown mode all day. This morning I downloaded updates for my HP laptop, and I assume that while I was downloading HP updates, it also downloaded Windows 7 updates. After MY downloads finished I initiated shut down, but it had 18 updates to install. It has been stuck on update # 7 since 10 AM this morning.
I just bought this laptop this fall. I hadn't used it for almost a month, and meant to take it with me to school today, but I had to leave it at home while it shut down. Now I'm wondering if I should interrupt the process since it's been 14 hours since it started this and it still says installing update 7.
I'm worried that if I shut it off manually it will corrupt the bios
It's a dell insprinon 1510...my wife's and was doing a download...BIO's when it shut itself off and now won't even come back on when I press the power button. I called Dell and they say...since my warranty expired 4 days earlier it was of couse, not covered and am wondering if it's the motherboard or something else?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI own a DCP UPS, and it's been with me for 2.5 years now. Recently (this happened twice) whenever the power shuts down, the UPS makes a screeching noise every 2 seconds (compared with every 5 seconds earlier), the orange battery light flickers on and off, and five seconds later, it shuts down with the computer after the orange light turns red (indicating an emergency). However, when I switched on the UPS, waited for two minutes, then WITHOUT switching on the computer shut the power off, it reacts normally (ie turns to battery power without a hitch). So does this mean that it is unable to bear battery power while the computer is on? And if so, does this mean that I should discard this one and get it replaced? And another final thing - until I do so, should I disconnect this one from the PC in case it may adversely affect the power supply of the CPU?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running on a Windows 7 32 bit system, self built. Before I go into explain all of the details, here are my computer specs..My computer has been crashing a lot recently. It never use to happen, it just started within the past month or so. It's not a BSOD, there's no error, no warning.. Just black. When I start up, it's like nothing ever happened. But it's really annoying, whenever I begin to render a video, it crashes almost every time. It also stopped a few times while I was trying to play games and record, but I have recorded in the past. My computer use to be at it's prime but I don't know what changed. I could really use some advice to fix this. Any suggestions would help, I'm really wanting to render up all the footage I have.I do a lot of video game recording on my PC, I use the program bandicam. Also, my PC doesn't seem to be suffering from overheating, as the hard drive stays cool when it crashes.I keep about 50gb free space open on my computer to avoid extra errors.
