When Shut Down Laptop It Just Hangs There
Feb 7, 2013I have Toshiba satellite L645, win7 home premium; ram 2GB, 32bit. HD 150GB (119 Free)Lately when I shut down the laptop it just hangs there (NOT ALL THE TIME) telling me: shutting down but if I don't hit the button it will go on forever. Once a let it go for about 1hr and at the end I had to hit the button. I don't get any error what so ever.

Sep 9, 2012I have had my laptop (Dell Inspiron N7110) for less than a year, and everything has always run smoothly. I performed a format of my hard drive yesterday and installed a clean copy of Windows 7 Home Premium. Everything went fine with the format process, so I didn't think anything was amiss until I tried to shut down the laptop before going to bed. And that's when I discovered that it won't shut down, unless I physically hold down the power button (which I don't like doing, for obvious reasons.) If I choose the "Shut Down" option from the Start menu, the laptop goes through the "Shutting down..." process perfectly fine, but the laptop boots up again immediately upon turning off. So it's like instead of shutting down, the system just does a restart. Which is fine for some things, but I do eventually want to shut down my laptop (I don't like leaving it on overnight in case there's an electrical storm, for example.)

All I remember is that the file ended in avgcorex.dll.Everything else works fine on the computer now except that when I go to start and shut down. Jan 2, 2012I have a HP G71 with windows 7 64bit and its really annoying when I get to 13% battery it says low battery and when it gets to 8% it just shuts down... i was wondering if there was a way to disable that function or if there was a way to completly eliminate this function. The operating system seems to shut down, but the computer itself stays on (case lights and fan are still active) and can only be turned off by holding the power button for 4 seconds. I have tried everything short of re-installing the OS - which I cannot do because of the non-transferable programs I have on this laptop. Sep 22, 2009Ok so when I had XP I would always use hibernate and only about once a week I would actually reboot the computer completely. Now that I have Windows 7 I would like to do the same. But now when I click hibernate the screen goes black and everything shuts off but the computer acts like its in standby. The lights are still on and computer is running.
Once this happens I cannot get back into windows or reboot without holding down the power button to force a reset. Each time that I have done with Windows 7 boots an error saying the computer was not shutdown correctly. Anyone know why it won't completely power off when I click hibernate. I have tried it about 5 separate times and it has not worked once.

Recently (this happened twice) whenever the power shuts down, the UPS makes a screeching noise every 2 seconds (compared with every 5 seconds earlier), the orange battery light flickers on and off, and five seconds later, it shuts down with the computer after the orange light turns red (indicating an emergency).However, when I switched on the UPS, waited for two minutes, then WITHOUT switching on the computer shut the power off, it reacts normally (ie turns to battery power without a hitch).So does this mean that it is unable to bear battery power while the computer is on? And if so, does this mean that I should discard this one and get it replaced? And another final thing - until I do so, should I disconnect this one from the PC in case it may adversely affect the power supply of the CPU?

Jun 13, 2012I'm running on a Windows 7 32 bit system, self built. Before I go into explain all of the details, here are my computer specs..My computer has been crashing a lot recently. It never use to happen, it just started within the past month or so. It's not a BSOD, there's no error, no warning.. Just black. When I start up, it's like nothing ever happened. But it's really annoying, whenever I begin to render a video, it crashes almost every time. It also stopped a few times while I was trying to play games and record, but I have recorded in the past. My computer use to be at it's prime but I don't know what changed. I could really use some advice to fix this. Any suggestions would help, I'm really wanting to render up all the footage I have.I do a lot of video game recording on my PC, I use the program bandicam. Also, my PC doesn't seem to be suffering from overheating, as the hard drive stays cool when it crashes.I keep about 50gb free space open on my computer to avoid extra errors.
