2 days ago my laptop just shut off. Battery was not dead, it was plugged in the the adapter. I have a temp monitor and it did not overheat either.When I turned it back on my desktop looked like this:All of my icons, on the desktop and in my folders look like that. I did a thorough virus and malware scan and nothing came up.
View 2 RepliesI wonder if anybody can help me. I am running windows 7 with a 2 screen set up. My problem is if I leave my computer and it goes to 'sleep', very often the desk top icons rearrange themselves and the display goes to a duplicate (ie both screens displaying the same thing). I can reset it by gouing to control panel/adjust screen resoution, and clicking 'detect'. It also does this sometimes when I shut down the machine and re-start.

View 8 Replies View RelatedThere are strange icons when I am in Windows 7 with Office 2007. I first noticed this when I needed to do a project. Because of the lack of new software, I had to save the file in the doc file format. Then, when I tried to open it to edit it, I noticed that the file icon was not right. It was the blank file icon with the Word 2007 icon on it. Then, I noticed that the rtf files have the correct file icon for doc files. The files can still open, but the wrong icon drives me nuts!

View 3 Replies View RelatedSome of the icons normally showing what a program type is are missing now. I HAVE all the DESKTOP icons and those in the system tray. But in Windows Explorer lists or in Word Perfect and Word lists of file names, many of the small icons that normally appear next to a program's name, or showing what type of document or file it is, are now missing. Not all, just some. I have mostly open square boxes. It doesn't matter whether I'm looking at a list of files I've created, or looking at the items in various system folders: most are just empty open squares instead of the individual icons. I have Windows 7 64-bit OS , both Mozilla 17 and IE9 browsers.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI seem to be having crashes on my laptop as of recent, but the patterns they follow are very strange. It's almost like i'm getting a BSOD while it being used, but instead the screen just go black and all power cuts. It then reboots and starts up as usual. As far as I can tell there is no conflicting software causing this, and it happens without any pattern. Since there is no Blue Screen, I cannot give a dump file. However, on the even viewer, I see an event labeled under the critical category. Now this seems like the CPU or other internal component is overheating, But when i look at HWMonitor Pro, the CPU stays under a steady 84C under load and 60C idle. This happens in a range of occasions such as rendering videos with Handbrake to simply browsing the web. I will say this, I recently swapped out my RAM cards because the OEM one's were causing BSOD's about a month ago. If you'd like more specific information on the laptop, visit my old thread.

But I have four system icons on the desktop, two of which I want to keep and two that I'd like to get rid of. The two keepers are the My Computer and Network icons, the two I don't wan to see are the Home Group and Library icons. This machine is the only Win-7 box on the network so Home Group is moot, and I do not expect to explicitly use Libraries any time soon. So the associated icons are just clutter on the desktop. For whatever reason, the two keepers include a "delete" option in their right click menus but the two I actually want to delete don't. So, how do I get them off the desktop? I don't think any of the four were present on the desktop when I completed the installation, and I don't remember what I did to get them to show up.

View 1 Replies View RelatedFinally I have found the place where my problem might get solved.Thing is: 1.There is a big "X" on 3 out of 4 disks I got(except "C" disk) as shown in the picture below: 2.Desktop icons are changed as well but not all of them.This is the second time this kind of crap happens to me. Last time it happened was after I clicked system backup. I couldn't stand the problem so I reinstalled my windows 7 pro 32bit and at first it was all ok. It came back after I rebooted which I couldn't figure out why. The only diffrence is last time all the desktop icons were changed, but this time as you can see some of the icons aren't changed.

I performed a format of my hard drive yesterday and installed a clean copy of Windows 7 Home Premium. Everything went fine with the format process, so I didn't think anything was amiss until I tried to shut down the laptop before going to bed. And that's when I discovered that it won't shut down, unless I physically hold down the power button (which I don't like doing, for obvious reasons.) If I choose the "Shut Down" option from the Start menu, the laptop goes through the "Shutting down..." process perfectly fine, but the laptop boots up again immediately upon turning off. So it's like instead of shutting down, the system just does a restart. Which is fine for some things, but I do eventually want to shut down my laptop (I don't like leaving it on overnight in case there's an electrical storm, for example.)

All I remember is that the file ended in avgcorex.dll.Everything else works fine on the computer now except that when I go to start and shut down.
