For some reason recently the desktop icons keep changing every time I restart my laptop.I set them up how I like them (under right click, view) on small icons, but when I restart they automatically set themselves to medium icons. I was wondering why this is happening and what I can do to stop it happening? [code]

1) Every time I restart my computer the icons on the desktop are completely scrambled. Thankfully I have a program that will restore them to their proper position. Originally I thought this may be due to an infection so I ran MalwareBytes AntiMalware and SuperAntiSpyware Free and both of them had no infections.
2) Also, on restart two open windows appear.
Computer > OS(C:) > Program Data > Microsoft > Windows > Start Menu > Programs > Startup > -Disabled

3) I have two icons on my desktop, Libraries and Home Group, that I am unable to remove.
4) Sometimes when I start a program requiring User Account Control, verification is required twice. First on the taskbar and then with the UAC window. Other times only with the UAC window.
whenever I restart my computer, all my desktop icons move around to really weird locations.Here are the specs:

View 1 Replies View RelatedI created a few shortcuts from chrome and added them to my Taskbar for ease of use. I created one for each of my multiple Gmail accounts etc and I changed their icons to something so I can identify which was which. The shortcut's took the icon and worked fine for a short period than I noticed every time I click on the icon after changing the default icon to my new one It would change the icon back to Gmails default one.

I did not have the internet on it, so this is not a virus... the internet came installed with vista, and I got the coupon for free windows 7 upgradePROBLEM -- every time I turn the laptop on, the icons disappear.. I right click on the desktop and 'show desktop icons' IS ticked.. so I untick it, and retick it, then the icons appear again.after a few hours they disappear again... also I can customise the desktop to have a picture or even a plain background like bright yellow.. but it will reset the background when it removes the iconsI thought this was a stupid windows vista issue so installed the Windows 7 upgrade. and the problem has continuedhour

I have a temp monitor and it did not overheat either.When I turned it back on my desktop looked like this:All of my icons, on the desktop and in my folders look like that. View 8 Replies View RelatedSo I bought a new desktop computer about 2 weeks ago and ever since I got it, it's been freezing (locking) up on me at random times. I currently use Windows 7 64-bit. I put in a new graphics card and new memory sticks just the other day and I got the same freezing problem. It's very random. I can be surfing the web and the next thing you know, the whole thing freezes up. I can't move the mouse. Can't do CTRL ALT DEL. Can't do anything. Seems as if the whole computer locks up. The only way to restart the computer is by manually holding in the power button for a few seconds. So since I replaced graphics card and installed new memory, I was thinking it may be something else causing this.

Once in a while, after I close the lid, my desktop icons will change size, sometimes smaller, sometimes bigger. It's really annoying because when it's really big, the icons move around. I'll have to change them back to the size I want and move them back to the place they were. I've updated everything i.e. windows update, hardware drivers etc. I've disabled desktop gadgets but it still does it.

View 9 Replies View RelatedSo I've got an ASRock motherboard that's about 3 months old and I'm running Windows 7. Earlier today, I started having a strange problem with the system time changing randomly. At first, I thought it was just a daylight savings time issue, so I disabled the automatic updating for daylight savings time. The problem still persisted. I also tried disabling the automatic time synchronization, but that didn't fix the problem either. I thought it may have been the CMOS battery, so I rebooted and checked the time in the bios. The bios shows the correct time/date. The only incorrect time and date is shown in Windows itself. After this, I tried updating the synchronization task to run every 5 minutes, but the clock is still changing to a different time. The time change is random, from around an hour to up to six or seven hours. The date doesn't change, just the time. My timezone is correct, and as the problem persisted without having automatic adjust for daylight savings time enabled, I can't see that it's the problem.Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? About the only idea I have left is some sort of virus. But AVG and Malwarebytes haven't picked anything up. Is there some kind of software that gets auto-installed that can screw with system time?

For the first few days it was all normal, then the WMP and IE(32-bit) icons swapped image, and now the WMP image has turned into my C drive's image (and IE(32-bit)'s back to normal. The 64-bit icon hasn't changed yet, by the way). They still work normally though. How to stop them from switching image?Interestingly, this also happened on Windows XP (which was 32-bit, not the 64-bit unlike this Windows 7). However, this is a different HD, so it's definitely not a HD issue (well, unless both happen to have the same problem, but what's the chance?).

Not sure if it's Malware or if I've just done something wrong.Basically whenever I move a file the icon for the file remains in place and whenever I try to move the icon Windows recognizes that it isn't there even though the icon remains, exiting and re-entering the folder which contains the icon makes it go away. Similarly whenever I empty or fill the recycling bin the icon doesn't change it's appearance until I navigate away from the desktop.I've also been having other issues.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSome of the icons normally showing what a program type is are missing now. I HAVE all the DESKTOP icons and those in the system tray. But in Windows Explorer lists or in Word Perfect and Word lists of file names, many of the small icons that normally appear next to a program's name, or showing what type of document or file it is, are now missing. Not all, just some. I have mostly open square boxes. It doesn't matter whether I'm looking at a list of files I've created, or looking at the items in various system folders: most are just empty open squares instead of the individual icons. I have Windows 7 64-bit OS , both Mozilla 17 and IE9 browsers.

Whatever time I set Windows 7 to (i.e. Eastern Time, Western Time, Coordinated Universal Time, etc.), on restart it sets itself to GMT, while still showing that I've selected the previous time zone I set (i.e. Eastern Time).
1. I am getting a 'searchplugin' folder on my desktop all the time aswell as some admin folders that are completely empty. I can delete them but is there anyway to permanetly stop this? I've heard it can be to do with the internet browser you use? And I do have some stupid internet browsers that arn't Google but is that the problem?
2. My PC seems to take a long time to restart (Not boot, but when I click restart for an update to kick in or something). Sometimes it takes a matter of seconds, sometimes it's quite a bit longer. But if I then hold the power button and then restart the PC manually it's quick booting up. Is there something I'm doing wrong?
3. My PC doesn't actually come out of sleep mode. I'm hving the problem that when I try to wake the PC up nothing happens. I'v set the mouse to wake it up but nothing. The weird thing is the PC starts to boot up (coming out of sleep) but then just powers down again. This continues until I hold the power button down and turn it back on. Now, I've turned sleep off and it's fine but I'd like to know if there is a way to solve this for future reference.
I've come across an issue where when I shut down and restart my PC on occasion all of my desktop icons will have moved.I am running a dual screen set up, screen 1 on the left, screen 2 on the right using screen 2 as the main display, running Win 7 Pro x64.
Windows gadgets are unaffected by this problem, only icons which are all moved onto the main display and largely jumbled up.
This doesn't happen every time I shut down. I am beginning to suspect it has something to do with the order of programs closing before windows shuts down, but I am not sure, and even less sure why programs which have no affect on the resolution would have any affect on the icon position.
Has anyone got any suggestions as to why Windows might be getting confused sometimes?
I like to keep my BIOS time set to UTC, which works perfectly with Linux, but whenever I log into Windows, the displayed time is UTC even though I have set the timezone. When I change the time manually or with synchronization, it changes BIOS time itself instead of simply using it as a base for localtime.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSo anytime I set my date and time to the correct settings either manually, in the bois, or allowing to sync with internet time option, the date and time seem to adjust forward randomly but seems to be often 2-3 weeks. Not sure when it changes since I never catch real time but I've changed my time approximately 10 times now and it never sticks.
