1) Every time I restart my computer the icons on the desktop are completely scrambled. Thankfully I have a program that will restore them to their proper position. Originally I thought this may be due to an infection so I ran MalwareBytes AntiMalware and SuperAntiSpyware Free and both of them had no infections.
2) Also, on restart two open windows appear.
Computer > OS(C:) > Program Data > Microsoft > Windows > Start Menu > Programs > Startup > -Disabled
Computer > OS(C:) > User > My Name > Appdata > Roaming > Microsoft > Windows > Start Menu >
Programs > Startup > -Disabled
3) I have two icons on my desktop, Libraries and Home Group, that I am unable to remove.
4) Sometimes when I start a program requiring User Account Control, verification is required twice. First on the taskbar and then with the UAC window. Other times only with the UAC window.
My screen resolution changes from the default setting for my monitor (Toshiba TV 1360x768) to 1024x768 usually. It's very annoying and scrambles my icons all over the desktop. After searching Google I found a reccomended registry fix which I did and it seemed to stabilize things for a while but now is back to doing the same thing. I rechecked the registry settings and they are as I had them. I am running Windows 7 Professional 64bit.
1360X768 (Decimal) = 550X300 (Hex) Changed both below: X Resolution to 550 Y Resolution to 300
For some reason recently the desktop icons keep changing every time I restart my laptop.I set them up how I like them (under right click, view) on small icons, but when I restart they automatically set themselves to medium icons. I was wondering why this is happening and what I can do to stop it happening? [code]
all my icons on desktop and computer have turned to notepad icons... and they open with some text on notepad... looking for a solution to go back to normal settings...
Some of the icons normally showing what a program type is are missing now. I HAVE all the DESKTOP icons and those in the system tray. But in Windows Explorer lists or in Word Perfect and Word lists of file names, many of the small icons that normally appear next to a program's name, or showing what type of document or file it is, are now missing. Not all, just some. I have mostly open square boxes. It doesn't matter whether I'm looking at a list of files I've created, or looking at the items in various system folders: most are just empty open squares instead of the individual icons. I have Windows 7 64-bit OS , both Mozilla 17 and IE9 browsers.
I've come across an issue where when I shut down and restart my PC on occasion all of my desktop icons will have moved.I am running a dual screen set up, screen 1 on the left, screen 2 on the right using screen 2 as the main display, running Win 7 Pro x64. Windows gadgets are unaffected by this problem, only icons which are all moved onto the main display and largely jumbled up.
This doesn't happen every time I shut down. I am beginning to suspect it has something to do with the order of programs closing before windows shuts down, but I am not sure, and even less sure why programs which have no affect on the resolution would have any affect on the icon position.
Has anyone got any suggestions as to why Windows might be getting confused sometimes?
My desktop icons change the size from small to medium after any numbers of restarts. They were small before and I would like them to stay that size. how to lock the size or why they change the size all the time.
After my PC has been running for a certain amount of time (anywhere from a few hours to a few days) my folders no longer load/display the items inside correctly until I restart. I either get a completely blank folder where I know there are files, or I can see the files but the icons don't display. For instance, I am currently experiencing this, and in my "my documents" folder, some of the folder shortcuts show NO icon at all, just the blank placeholder and the text under it, and some just show a plain folder. When things are working correctly, each folder displays, usually showing media that is inside that folder or some type of specific icon. One thing that is common once this problem begins happening is the green loading bar that runs across the top of the folder window becomes slower the further to the right it goes, and never makes it all the way to the right. It slows and stops at about 95%.
This error is NOT present when I am looking at a folder through a program. For instance, if I go into Adobe Photoshop, then "Open," and then browse to My Documents, All of the foldrs in that "open" windows display correctly. Everything appears as normal in folders in this view, as opposed to nothing appearing if I open it in windows explorer.[URL]Finally here is a view of the FreeCorder folder where there ARE items stored, but nothing appears due to this error.Again, all i have to do is restart and everything will be fine again for a while. Then some magical trigger is executed (I have no idea what that trigger is) and things go funky like this.I DO put my computer on stand-by frequently, but that doesn't seem to be THE trigger, as it has come out of stand-by performing normally.
restarting explorer.exe if taskbar icons vanish. But a big issue left me shunning to restart explorer.exe. I didn't know how it started but everything I restart windows explorer some of the icons disapeer, not all but some significant ones like Deskspace which is manageble only to right-click on the tskbar icon, and Ditto, a software that saves your Ctrl-C data for later which the pop-up selector is located on the taskbar icon, all the others are find but this all happens when I restart windows explorer. It's really annoying to log off and log back on just to config or use some of my most useful programs.
I've been looking around for something that can hide my desktop icons (or basically anything except my background & bottom navigation bar) if I'm not viewing the desktop. In other words, when I have a (not full screen) window open, I want to be able to see my desktop background but not the icons on it. When I "view" the desktop, or don't have anything on top of it, I want the icons back.
Why all desktop icons appear in the Desktop folder but not on the desktop itself?I set my desktop to show the Recicle Bin icon only, but if I open the Desktop folder in Explorer they are all there: Computer, Control Panel, Libraries, Network, User's Files, and Recycle Bin.
I recently upgraded a Win-XP home system to Win-7 Home Premium. Everything went fine. But I have four system icons on the desktop, two of which I want to keep and two that I'd like to get rid of. The two keepers are the My Computer and Network icons, the two I don't wan to see are the Home Group and Library icons. This machine is the only Win-7 box on the network so Home Group is moot, and I do not expect to explicitly use Libraries any time soon. So the associated icons are just clutter on the desktop. For whatever reason, the two keepers include a "delete" option in their right click menus but the two I actually want to delete don't. So, how do I get them off the desktop? I don't think any of the four were present on the desktop when I completed the installation, and I don't remember what I did to get them to show up.
Finally I have found the place where my problem might get solved.Thing is: 1.There is a big "X" on 3 out of 4 disks I got(except "C" disk) as shown in the picture below: 2.Desktop icons are changed as well but not all of them. This is the second time this kind of crap happens to me. Last time it happened was after I clicked system backup. I couldn't stand the problem so I reinstalled my windows 7 pro 32bit and at first it was all ok. It came back after I rebooted which I couldn't figure out why. The only diffrence is last time all the desktop icons were changed, but this time as you can see some of the icons aren't changed.
I restarted my computer and when i am logging on and the message "preparing your desktop.." shows up, it loads a little while but then it is only a blue background and down in the right corner this shows,"Windows 7 Evaluation copy. Build 7100 This copy of Windows is not genuine"
I've just recently bought a new PC, and 2 weeks later I'm having issues with it already. [code] So anyways, everything worked like a charm first week or so. I was well impressed. Then I had some issues with my 5.1 surround system; after trying everything possible software-wise, I got talked into re-installing Windows 7 to fix the sound problem I was having with the speakers. Foolish decision it turned out to be, not only it didn't help me solve the sound problem, but now I can't even install Catalyst Drivers anymore.after I re-installed Windows 7 Ultimate x64 (all clean and proper of course), and applied all the updates/fixes through Windows Update Action Center etc - I need to install AMD Catalyst Control Center in order to make my graphics show up on device manager/work. When I install it, and it asks for restart after (so it can complete the install and apply it), my Windows won't load proper. Firstly a black screen appears shortly (intead of standard "Welcome" screen), and then few moments later desktop appears with no taskbar or any icons on it. I'm not even able to opet task manager or anything, my whole computer seems to freeze up.
I have tried installing graphics drivers from the original disc I received with my card, I've tried downloading it manually (and through the Windows Update as well); no matter what way I install it, after the reboot my desktop won't load, my Windows doesn't start proper.I have installed 3 different versions of Windows 7 Ultimate ever since, I've tried pretty much everything that crossed my mind and I'm still rather clueless about the whole thing. Does anyone know what the problem might be, and/or how can it be fixed? I can't play a single game meanwhile, matter a fact I can't even get my graphics to show up under device manager (until I install AMD CCC).
Printer is USB wired to desktop. When I sent a print job to HP laser jet 1018 will not print until restart desktop computer.I believe I must have something set wrong. I just have not been able to find what is wrong. Laptop and desktop are both running windows 7 64 bit.It did fine when I had XP laptop.
The system started an update and in spite of the warning not to turn the computer off, the update got interrupted. The restart has been 'Preparing Your Desktop' for about 2 hours with no diagnostics or any indicators.
I fell asleep with my PC on and woke up with it stuck in sleep mode. I performed a hard shut down via holding down the power button for several seconds. Now the pc will not post and my monitor claims no signal. No beeps from the Mobo speaker. I've replaced my cmos battery so far.Mobo is an asus m3a79-t Deluxe and I've heard some issues of bios not supporting sleep modes?
im new and i was wondering if anyone knows how to make the icons on your desktop appear they are not hidden its just when i restsrted my computer it went through and when the desktop showed up nothing was there now i have to load everything up from my desktop from the explorer folder to do anything.
all of a sudden all my icons on my desk top are the same..they are one of my photo programs. When i click on any of them the photo program opens...how can i get all my icons to go back to the program that they really are??
On a few occasions just recently my win 7 pro system has come out of "screen saver" with nothing but my desktop background displayed. If I then ctrl/alt/delete the screen goes black with just the cursor showing and otherwise unuseable. After a while the background will reappear but the only way that I can get the icons and everything back is to reboot.I have done a very thorough search for malware but none found. The problem never occurs whilst I am actually using the system and it does not always happen when it has been left to go into screen saver.
My desktop icons are messed up. i ran webroot and no malware showed threats. When i click on any desktop icon it goes to my windows media center and shows how to use videos and pictures. Only one icon--southwest airlines lets me go online wnen I click it. So here is what I can;t get when i click my desktop icons---internet explorer, windows live mail, system restore, disk cleanup, windows word, no games. I was hoping to use system restore. I just can't figure out what happened to my computer.
