I like to keep my BIOS time set to UTC, which works perfectly with Linux, but whenever I log into Windows, the displayed time is UTC even though I have set the timezone. When I change the time manually or with synchronization, it changes BIOS time itself instead of simply using it as a base for localtime.
View 3 RepliesI've got an Acer Model As5742 Laptop with an i5 480M processor and 8 GB of good Ram. I'm running Win 7 Pro 64 Bit. It's only about 5 months old and this started about a month ago. I have no other problems. IE: Blue Screens or Lockups or anything, just the Bios clock changes to a random date and time after every restart. I replaced the Bios battery twice and it only effects the chore of having to reset the time in Windows every time I boot.
I'm going to send it to Acer to be repaired within a week or two, but maybe it's not a bad timing mechanism in the motherboard and one of you people have a correct solution to it. Which will save me the trouble of sending it in for a motherboard replacement.
I do have all the drivers and bios updates installed. Oh yes I've ran about 15 different virus Etc. Malware scans with several different products and they all come back clean. I ran System File Checker SFC /scannow from the command prompt several times that also comes back OK.
I spilt some water on my laptop a few days ago but fortunately it's completely dried out and working perfectly.... apart from this minor (but important) issue.
Problem: the system time does not stay correct. Even after manually updating the BIOS time and also even after manually syncing it with the various servers available under the time options.
Fix: set the internet time sync interval to every minute rather than its default setting? How do I do this?
P.S. This couldn't be a CMOS battery issue surely because even when the system is on and plugged in the system time still deviates from correct. (I assume the CMOS battery is only used when the system is powered off.) If I need it replaced, how does that sit with my Dell hardware warranty?
At my company I setup and deploy many windows 7 machines. I use a start-up batch file to do most of the work and a few other files in the start-up folder, this is all imaged to the hard drive with a hard drive duplicator. The batch file runs once and deletes it self. Anyways, that is the general idea of what is going on. the only thing left that I have to do manually is change the BIOS settings, USB enabled/disabled, behavior on power up, BIOS password, ect... Is there any way I could automate this process, preferably a command line?

It's so annoying and unnecessary.How can I prevent it from doing this when all I want to do is vary the themes? Earlier today, I started having a strange problem with the system time changing randomly. At first, I thought it was just a daylight savings time issue, so I disabled the automatic updating for daylight savings time. The problem still persisted. I also tried disabling the automatic time synchronization, but that didn't fix the problem either. I thought it may have been the CMOS battery, so I rebooted and checked the time in the bios. The bios shows the correct time/date. The only incorrect time and date is shown in Windows itself. After this, I tried updating the synchronization task to run every 5 minutes, but the clock is still changing to a different time. The time change is random, from around an hour to up to six or seven hours. The date doesn't change, just the time. My timezone is correct, and as the problem persisted without having automatic adjust for daylight savings time enabled, I can't see that it's the problem.Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? About the only idea I have left is some sort of virus. But AVG and Malwarebytes haven't picked anything up. Is there some kind of software that gets auto-installed that can screw with system time?

At this setting, the mouse pointer will run off the screen to the right.I have to go to "Screen Resolution" and click "Detect", it finds only one monitor, click OK, and it works fine 'til next boot up.

I have included the Minidump file, JcGriff File, and Health and systems report as per the BSOD posting instructions. View 1 Replies View RelatedI use Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome. Firefox is filled with privacy tools including Privoxy, Ghostery and Disconnect. My other browsers do no have anything. I use Windows firewall, Avast Free and Full version of Malwarebytes with malicious web-site blocking turned off. I also use Spyware Blaster. I use Windows 7. I am behind Cisco router.
Problem: When I use facebook.com either https or http, after a certain period of times or page visits, the facebook stops loading and "hangs" on a page not going back or forward. I either have to wait, or close it and open another browser. This has been going on for quite some time. I tried clearing everything with CCleaner, flushed DNS, Etc. When I ping, I get all 4 responses.
How can I make Windows Media Player stop updating media every freaking time I start it up? It always hogs up massive amount of CPU power and goes into (Not Responding) for a min while updating.I only add media files to the Windows Explorer Library so I can get indexed searches. I don't even use WMP to view files or anything. Just to burn some music CDs sometimes.I've tried deleting the files from the WMP library but the next time I open it up, it scans and updates all my files again! Is there a way to completely purge the WMP library and make it not update ever? I've unchecked every option that seems to make it scan and update but it still does it.Basically I want to UNLINK the Windows Explorer Library from the WMP Library.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am choosing which OS to boot by changing the boot order in my BIOS. To me, this seems clean and simple. I built 32 bit XP on one disk, then removed that disk from my system, installed a different disk, and built 64 bit Windows 7.
When both disks are installed, I change the boot order to select the OS I want, and each OS sees and can use the files on either disk.
Am I asking for trouble here, or is this as clean as I think it is? What I want is one set of user document files which can be used from whichever OS has been booted.
I have three external drives, and every time I boot now, they show up as "found," as if I'd just put in a USB drive.....meaning I have to close them all each and every time. Not a serious issue, just an annoyance I'd like to avoid. How can I set it so that they are not "found" each time?
View 6 Replies View RelatedThis all started whenever I wanted to change my text size different by changing my DPI settings. What I did was right click, go to screen resolution, and clicked on "Make text and other items larger or smaller". From this I changed it to 100% from 125%. I noticed it had changed my font size to the 100%. It then made everything SUPER small when I changed my theme settings.Whenever I right click and go into personalization settings, I do the usual customizing to my likings. Since I want to save the theme, I do so by naming it, blah. Now I want to use the blah theme by click on it, and I do so. Everything is fine and dandy until I right click my desktop to refresh(out of habit). This is the before and after of the font sizes.

My workaround was to set a custom DPI setting, log off like it prompts me to, then changing it back to 100%, again prompting to do so. It is so annoying to do so.

View 8 Replies View RelatedAbout a month after I started using it, the Say the Time clock program I bought stopped launching the management menu when I right click the date/time field in the task tray (notification area).
Therefore, I can't use or edit the program. Neither the touchpad nor the cordless mouse works.
Other than this problem, my computer works great. Every single item that's meant to be right clicked works for me.
Is there a way I can generate a log to show the software manufacturer (Provenio) that it's their problem and not mine? I am a novice user but I can follow instructions. However, I don't want to put my computer at risk if I make an entry error.

So I bought a new desktop computer about 2 weeks ago and ever since I got it, it's been freezing (locking) up on me at random times. I currently use Windows 7 64-bit. I put in a new graphics card and new memory sticks just the other day and I got the same freezing problem. It's very random. I can be surfing the web and the next thing you know, the whole thing freezes up. I can't move the mouse. Can't do CTRL ALT DEL. Can't do anything. Seems as if the whole computer locks up. The only way to restart the computer is by manually holding in the power button for a few seconds. So since I replaced graphics card and installed new memory, I was thinking it may be something else causing this.
