I've got an Acer Model As5742 Laptop with an i5 480M processor and 8 GB of good Ram. I'm running Win 7 Pro 64 Bit. It's only about 5 months old and this started about a month ago. I have no other problems. IE: Blue Screens or Lockups or anything, just the Bios clock changes to a random date and time after every restart. I replaced the Bios battery twice and it only effects the chore of having to reset the time in Windows every time I boot.
I'm going to send it to Acer to be repaired within a week or two, but maybe it's not a bad timing mechanism in the motherboard and one of you people have a correct solution to it. Which will save me the trouble of sending it in for a motherboard replacement.
I do have all the drivers and bios updates installed. Oh yes I've ran about 15 different virus Etc. Malware scans with several different products and they all come back clean. I ran System File Checker SFC /scannow from the command prompt several times that also comes back OK.

I spilt some water on my laptop a few days ago but fortunately it's completely dried out and working perfectly.... apart from this minor (but important) issue.
Problem: the system time does not stay correct. Even after manually updating the BIOS time and also even after manually syncing it with the various servers available under the time options.
Fix: set the internet time sync interval to every minute rather than its default setting? How do I do this?
P.S. This couldn't be a CMOS battery issue surely because even when the system is on and plugged in the system time still deviates from correct. (I assume the CMOS battery is only used when the system is powered off.) If I need it replaced, how does that sit with my Dell hardware warranty?

As a long Time Warner Cable customer, I've gotten used to how their DVR boxes work (and am very glad to be off of them now). One very common thing I would do is start watching a show, and mid way through it decide I want to record it and watch it later. The nice thing was that the recording would contain everything I had watched up to that point plus the remainder of the show. Well... whenever I do the same thing in media center, I notice that the recording starts at the point of where I pressed the record button as opposed to from the start of when I started watching. Is this a limitation of Media Center or is something not set up correctly on my end?

I like to keep my BIOS time set to UTC, which works perfectly with Linux, but whenever I log into Windows, the displayed time is UTC even though I have set the timezone. When I change the time manually or with synchronization, it changes BIOS time itself instead of simply using it as a base for localtime.

I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. A while ago I started to have problems with the clock time. So I started searching for answers on Google. Every topic referred to Cmos battery but I doubt it to be Cmos battery fault for one reason: My Laptop Emachine eMe442 is for like a month or more plugged in to the wall socket so in my opinion Cmos battery wouldn't be needed in idle mode or when pc is switched off to keep track of time. Right? Anyway, I been reading a topic on this site on same problem and there was proposed to check Bios time. Bios time seems to me is not working, or not even counting. So normally this started new question. Here they are:
1) Does Cmos battery keeps time running when in idle mode or pc is off, even if pc is plugged into the charger?
2) Whats the problem here, why my pc don't keep track of time?
3)How do I fix whatever is wrong with my Bios time?
Even when I switch on my pc, if I don't click on clock it doesn't start counting, and after I click on clock and synchronize with one of default servers after awhile it starts losing time.

I have a Toshiba laptop A500 series running Windows 7 Home premium 64 bit. the computer was purchased in May. I am using MSE and Panda as my anti Virus--and Malwarebytes also. I scanned with all of them yesterday and they say my computer is free form anything malicious. However 2 times this week including this morning at startup the computer is checking C. I am worried that something is wrong.

I have a HP DV7-1247CL x64 and use Windows 7 Home Premium. My ISP is Verizon FIOS Ultimate and my average speed up/down is about 35/35 with a wired connection.
Recently I have noticed that after signing in it takes about 2 1/2 min to get the Windows 7 loaded. I don't think this is average so what is the average load time.

I installed Windows 7 SP1 64-bit on a Toshiba laptop which used to have Vista 32-bit on it.Yesterday I put in all the Toshiba drivers and ran chkdsk and am pretty sure it was ok.I ran chkdsk tonight and got a message that was so quick I can barely read it, but on reboot at the end it says "A disk checking has been scheduled. Disk checking has been cancelled" which comes and goes very quickly. In BootExecute in the registry it seems OK and shows it as "autocheck autochk*".

I just got a used laptop, popped in a new hard drive, and installed a legit version of Windows 7 Ultimate from scratch. Everything went smoothly, it picked up on all my devices & installed drivers correctly. The only problem is - I can't update Windows. When I go to start--> all programs--> windows update, it goes to "checking for updates" and does that - forever and ever - even if I leave it go overnight.

I have installed a legit Windows 7 OS on my laptop. Its not an upgrade, it was a blank hard drive. WIndows 7 installed flawlessly, picked up all my drivers. The only problem is I am having problems with Windows 7 updates. When I choose Windows 7 update, it says "Checking for updates" and stays like that - forever. Even the next day. I did heavy heavy research, found out others are having the same problem. I tried all the fixes I could find, which are listed below:
1. No Anti-virus programs installed yet - brand new Windows 7 ultimate installation
2. There is no spyware - its a brand new clean install
3. Firewall shut off
4. Temp files, cookies, history cleared
5. background intelligent transfer service set to automatic in services.msc
6. software distribution folder renamed
7. tried shutting off automatic updates and doing it manually
8. Added windowsupdate to trust zone
9. ran MicrosoftFixit50202 in normal and advanced mode
Even with my internet SHUT OFF (turned off modem) it still checks for updates and doesn't fail with "No internet connection available".

My laptop is a Acer aspire 5738z running windows 7 home premium 64 bit and my problem is my laptop will not start. When I turn my laptop on it starts to run like normal: GPU fan starts, Disk drive kicks in, and the LED for the on button is working but nothing on the screen. I've tried too do alt + f10 for a restore, nothing happened. I've also tried to plug it into a monitor and my tv. Before this occurred it had been turned off during boot (don't ask why, I cannot answer that) and I preceded to take it apart(to fix the overheating issue due to acer not putting fan holes on the bottom of the laptop and I didn't realise something was wrong with it until I reassembled it and tried to turn it on. So I'm not sure whether is corrupt BIOS, a hardware problem, or corrupt MBR (my own personal diagnosis, don't know whether it's right or not). Also I have tried turning the laptop off taking the battery out letting the motherboard discharge then pressing the power button for a minute, leaving it for a minute, putting the charger in then turning it on.
