View 1 Replies View RelatedHow do i get wireless drivers for a Toshiba Satellite L655-S5150?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently came into possession of a Toshiba Satellite L655-S5150, Model No. PSK2CU-OK101S by way of an inheritance. It did not come with any documentation, installation, recovery or driver disks.I formatted the hard drive and have installed Windows 7 Professional. Windows 7 boots up, but it appears to use only the generic drivers for all the hardware, which, although it most of it works, it is certainly not working as well as drivers for the specific harware would. I cannot get the computer to find any wireless networks, so I cannot download any software directly to the laptop.I have downloaded drviers for the LAN, ehternet, etc., from Toshiba, and took a SWAG on what hardware was in the computer, but at least one of these drivers froze up the computer...no more guessing.
1) I have tried to find a list of the specific equipment, LAN cards, ethernet, etc, that is in the laptop without success. Is there anywhere I can find out what specific harware is in the computer without paying $150.00 to Toshiba Support? (I will,, but the cheapskate in me demands I try this first.) I have Googled the make and model for days and can only find generic specs on the quipment.I think if I can get a specific hardware list, I can download the individual drivers fairly easy of the net on another computer and load them from a thumb drive or CD.
2) If all else fails, is it worth physically opening up the laptop to examine the boards and see if the the make, maodel and type of each? It was free to me, so I lose nothing if I screw up? I would probably spend the $150.00 for Toshiba Support if it would really screw up the laptop.

This problem started about 2 months ago. Windows takes a long time to shut down, at least 5 minutes. Sometimes it doesn't shut down and reboots.Every shuts down normally, then the grey screen "SHUTTING DOWN" just seems to hang.On one recommendation I updated the BIOS, that didn't seem to work.I scanned in safe mode with Malware Bytes Anti Malware and the computer is clean. I use AVAST antivirus.
I have an HP Z800 Workstation with Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. When I start the computer it seems to be ready in somewhere under a minute after the desktop comes on, meaning there are no spinning circles the mouse moves smoothly etc. However if I try to launch one of the programs in the taskbar, Firefox, Thunderbird, it takes at least seven to ten minutes for the program to come on and be ready. At this point if I click Start>All Programs it is completely empty with no icons or folders at all in there and will be for about the same amount of time. The Start menu freezes open like that and all I can do is to wait. And wait I do because it makes it much worse if I hold in the power button and turn the computer off because then I can usually not go past that black screen that comes on for a brief second before it goes on the desktop. I have very few things that are active in msconfig so I have no idea what's going on and why the computer takes so long to start.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy wife has a new Acer netbook which came with 7 Starter. I upgraded it to Home Premium 32bit. She is complaining that after closing the lid, or hibernating, or sleep mode, it take at least two minutes before the netbook connects so that she can use the internet. My two laptops do not have this problem at all. All three machines use the same router.
The signal strength icon on the system tray shows a yellow blob which stays until a connection is made. It doesn't always happen, but enough for hair tugging sessions!
Recently, whenever i turn on my computer. It will take quite a while to load the welcoming page (The green page). Usually it took around 1-2 seconds. I've tried updating windows and anti virus scan but the problem still persist.

If I double click the executable it takes over a minute before the program launches.Equally attempting to access the file properties takes a similar amount of time.(the file happens to be audioconverter.exe (part of a set of programs to re-encode mkv's - e.g. strip out of the dts track and reencode with ac3, etc.)Only files in this set of sub-directories seem to be affected, the rest of the machine performs perfectly
