there are two images or icons that appear to be together enclosed in a shaded rectangle. they are sitting on my desktop and cannot move them, open them or do anything to remove them. they weren't here last time I used my pc and they also appear in front of every window i open

View 2 Replies View RelatedThere are strange icons when I am in Windows 7 with Office 2007. I first noticed this when I needed to do a project. Because of the lack of new software, I had to save the file in the doc file format. Then, when I tried to open it to edit it, I noticed that the file icon was not right. It was the blank file icon with the Word 2007 icon on it. Then, I noticed that the rtf files have the correct file icon for doc files. The files can still open, but the wrong icon drives me nuts!
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've come across an issue where when I shut down and restart my PC on occasion all of my desktop icons will have moved.I am running a dual screen set up, screen 1 on the left, screen 2 on the right using screen 2 as the main display, running Win 7 Pro x64.
Windows gadgets are unaffected by this problem, only icons which are all moved onto the main display and largely jumbled up.
This doesn't happen every time I shut down. I am beginning to suspect it has something to do with the order of programs closing before windows shuts down, but I am not sure, and even less sure why programs which have no affect on the resolution would have any affect on the icon position.
Has anyone got any suggestions as to why Windows might be getting confused sometimes?
Yesterday i istalled Service pack 1 on my pc.
After that i found that i can't move any of my desktop icons. I don't know if there is a direct connection with the istallation of SP1.
Also i found that vlc doesn't properly. I have tried different version, but the problem is always the same: i can't move the video forward or back. I don't know if this problem too is connected with the istallation of the SP1..
Anyone else have this problem? I re-arrange them and when I reboot they're all over the place.

I temporarily downloaded a software to reset my icons when I start the computer, but I don't want to keep on having to go through this all the time. I tried the regedit...that didn't work. Windows 7, 32 and 64bit, 8 gig memory, service pack 1, Only happens on the 32bit boot.
I have a one year old HP pc with Windows 7. My problem is that quite a few of the desktop icons wont open, such as itunes, Advanced System Care4 etc. If I dbl-click on one, the pointer flickers momentarily and then nothing however if I open the task manager they are listed as running. Today I clicked on itunes and it didn't open so I gave up and left and watched an entire football game on TV. I came back 3 hrs later set down at my desk and all of a suden itunes popped up. Three hours to load the program. Same will happen with AVS4. I have turned off all start up items and shut down microsoft items at start up and that worked once then the problem began again so I tried it again but this time it knew what I was doing and went around the fix. )
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling softwares, registry fixes, registry cleaners ,Malwarebites,IOBits, AVG scans, Microsofts "sfc /scannow" but no signs of a virus or registry corruption. Even tried a memory scan. (said programs won't open from All Programs list either)
i run winows 7 and when i log in i can open the desktop icons for a while but then they stop working and the mouse wont open them or right click on them and neither can i right click on the open desktop as nothing happens.ive tried a system restore no good. when i restart hte computer its ok for a few minutes then the same problem again.
