View 1 Replies View Relatedwhen my computer goes to sleep after it's on for a while when I move the mouse to get the screen back up it shows the backround no icons or anything to click. Same if I turn it off and turn it back on. I have to turn it off and on many times then go to safe mode and shut down then turn it on again for it to work. Just now I had to turn it on/off 4 times for it to show the icons and task bar. Usually it is left blank with nothing to click having no choice but to turn it off. Norton says no viruses. My computer is HP with windows 7. I bought it in 2011.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI opened up my PC to move the front audio cable so that it wasn't sitting on the graphics card (was causing EM interference). When I tried to reboot, my computer now gets to the windows loading screen, then stops outputting video - so the monitor goes blank and eventually turns off. Windows continues to load in the background as I can hear the startup sound play.
Computer Setup:
Gigabyte GA-EX38-DS4 Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 CPU
Gigabyte 670 GTX Factory OC GFX Card
4GB RAM (I think XMS2)
500GB Samsung Spinpoint F3 7200rpm HDD
Corsair 650W modular PSU
Linksys PCIE wireless card (can't remember model)
Things I have tried:
1) Booting into safe mode (works fine, can view the desktop etc.)
2) Booting into low resolution mode (doesn't work, same issue)
3) Booting into safe mode, un-installing the graphics card, booting into normal mode and reinstalling drivers for graphics card (doesn't work, same issue)
4) Trying a different PCI-E slot (doesn't work, same issue)
5) Trying a different output on the graphics card (doesn't work, same issue)
6) Hard CMOS reset (doesn't work, same issue)
7) Trying a different graphics card (even worse, didn't get any video out even at BIOS screen - can't guarantee card is working as I don't have a second machine to test with but it was working the last time I used it a couple of months ago. Second card was ATI rather than Nvidia so shouldn't be using same drivers).
Things I intend to try but haven't had time:
1) Plugging into a different monitor (heard some people mentioning it may be to do with the monitor drivers not reporting max screen settings properly, I could find any windows 7 x64 drivers for my monitor as its so old but I do have a TV I can test with)
Formatted Windows 7 loads shows Win 7 Logo and Screen blank with cursor
I have an Acer laptop 4551, got hit by nasty viruses and on top no restore intact.
I formatted the hard drive which gave me an error 83% and stopped. Today I turned on laptop to install fresh genuine Windows 7, I popped in the DVD and done everything in BIOS selected Boot from CD. Everything was Ok I hit enter to Continue then comes the Windows 7 logo and after that a blank black screen with Cursor, that's it! I done that some 5/6 times but no luck.
I have a weird situation: Just a normal day working on my pc while it messages me, system rebooting. It reboots without any errors. I log back into my system, everything seems fine. I notticed on my taskbar none of my applications loaded.Usually, MSN, my vid card, winamp...icons are loaded up and icons are in taskbar but not there! I performed many actions to no avail.System restore, safemode boot, selective services boot, sfc /scannow and so on.I checked in Event viewer and see 5-6 service that did not responde to the start or control in a timely fashion. Ex: acrobat, asus, bonjour, apple.... Got one I dint like: The server {06622D85-6856-4460-8DE1-A81921B41C4B} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout. When i click on any applications mostly non-MS apps nothing happens. Not even the services starts up in task man. I tried to open the service lets say, Steam client and get the Timeout error right away.

View 9 Replies View RelatedAll of a sudden on my Windows 7 ultimate 64bit, my Windows started to run so slow to the point where I can basically not even use it. All the stats show my RAM registering fine(4gb) and I just can't find what the problem will be. In its normal mode, it will take around 20min just to get to the front screen and is super slow when it comes to opening programs as well. It seems to run safe mode fine though, with speeds that I am used to.

View 10 Replies View RelatedMy windows 7 professional 32bit on my laptop has a problem. Everytime I turn it on, my laptop screen is white (and fades in some hints of black) and nothing shows up. However, sometimes I am able to get a display on an external monitor.
Before my computer loads my desktop it does a startup repair. What ends up happening is that it does a system restore and my computer is able to boot up normally on my external monitor (laptop screen still white). Once everything loads, my computer automatically looks for and installs a VGA controller driver (at this point I am suspecting something may be wrong with my graphics card because I no longer have the windows aero theme).
Once the VGA drivers are installed, my computer says it has to restart so that changes can be made. After the restart, everything is back to normal with my laptop screen working again and now I have the aero theme again. What is the problem? I've been trying to fix this for weeks. It should be noted that I can't always get the display onto my external so I have to keep on force restarting (holding onto the power button) until I can get it on the external.
I installed a new driver for my graphics card and it hasn't fixed the problem. I know there is a virus on my computer (file is tdx.sys). I am going to replace that file with a new one following some instructions from another forum but I don't want to do that yet because I am currently writing exams and not much of a tech savvy person. I don't want to mess around with system files until at least after my exams so I can back up everything.
Windows 7 freezes as dots begin to come together, 2 tiny dots (red & yellow), then goes to black screen. Startup repair boots to light Microsoft logo. Won't boot from 3 recovery dvds, or reinstall, goes to same screen. Gateway DX4320, AMD Phenom II, Stock hardware
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Gateway runs great until a restart is requested by me or a program. A few days ago, it would restart just fine. When I select Restart, the computer appears to shut down fine, it beeps to restart, the Windows 7 screen begins to open but it freezes with three colored dots on the screen. It always stops in exactly the same place.
If I kill power, then boot again I get an offer for Windows to repair itself. If I let it, it cannot repair. If I select Boot Windows Normally, all is well. Except for this one problem, things are really running well. Odd. I've run Chkdsk, SFC/ SCANNOW, and PC Pitstop Optimize3. Nothing finds a problem or fixes anything.

I bought a hp laptop about a year ago and have been having a problem for the last couple days. I have windows 7 and when I go to start the laptop up it shows the HP screen then goes to the windows screen like its loading but then goes back to the hp logo and is stuck. I ran a HDD test and memory test those came back good. I tried to go into safe mode it acts like it loading then shows a blank screen. I try to do a system recovery and system restore the screen stays blank. I also took the battery out and press the power button down but that hasn't work. It's no longer under warrenty.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a three year old HP laptop running Windows 7 (64 bit) that is misbehaving. It would not boot up recently, and I believe the root was heat related issues. My son likes to use it while setting on his bed - fan gets covered up and the laptop overheats. I added some large rubber feet to the bottom to improve clearance for the fan and that has helped, to a point. The laptop will boot and I can log into my son's account. After 5-10 minutes, the screen goes blank (50% grey scale, neither bright or completely dark). At that point, nothing seems to bring the screen back, so it is unusable and a hard shut down is necessary. I have cleaned it with Malware Bytes in the past and now have Microsoft Security Essentials installed, so I think/hope any virus issues have been resolved. My suspicion is that this is heat related, but exactly what is failing I do not know. Two months ago I replaced the power jack in the laptop and the power supply because of power connection problems. The battery is shot and will not hold a charge, so the laptop can not be used unless it is connected to the power supply. Since I replaced the power supply and jack, the laptop has been functioning okay. It would crash on occasion, but I attributed that to malware. I had to purge the hard drive earlier this year and restore the system because of a malware infestation.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am going to preface this by saying that this has *nothing* to do with restoring from sleep or hibernate modes. In searching for an answer to this issue, I found way too much related to that.
My problem is simple. Occasionally (~50% of the time) when I turn the monitor back on after shutting it off, it will stay blank and not really turn back on. It makes no difference how long the monitor has been off. After turning it back on, the power light is green, indicating there is a signal, but the screen is black.
Again, the computer has not slept or hibernated. I simply shut off the monitor and later come back to turn it on. The same thing will happen occasionally if Windows shuts the monitor off after the configured time. (I did that last part as a test; I typically do not automatically shut it off.)
Specs:
OS: Windows 7 64-bit
CPU: Intel Core i7 860
MB: Asus P7P55D
Memory: 8GB - Corsair CMX6GX3M2A1600C9 (2 x 2 x 2GB)
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB
Monitor: Chimei CMV 221D
NVIDIA Drivers: 8.17.11.9562 (11/20/2009)
I originally thought it was the OS that was hung. However, I was able to go into the start menu and restart ("Start" -> "Right" -> "Right" -> "R"), so I know the OS was there responding to my commands.
Attempts to fix:
- Restart the computer. This worked.
- Shut off the power to the monitor and turn it back on. This works most of the time.
- Lock and unlock Windows. This works after a few tries.
- Hit CTRL-ALT-DEL followed by ESC. This works after a few tries.
So, I have a fairly simple work around now. So this is only a minor annoyance. Hitting CTRL-ALT-DEL then ESC does seem to work. I don't think it is a placebo because I waited 5 minutes and it did not come back, but after 2 cycles of that, it came back. I think that fixes it because it causes full screen refreshes.
Does anyone have any ideas or has anyone seen this before? The drivers are recent, but I noticed this with the clean-install Windows 7 drivers for this card as well. This is a very clean and very recent install (3 days). I never had this problem with Vista 32-bit, the same graphics card, recent drivers, but different CPU/motherboard/memory.
When my computer finishes starting up, it ends with what looks like blobs of colored pixels in a line at the top of my screen. This happened for the first time tonight and I have no clue what happened. I took out my video card and plugged my monitor into the mother boards vga slot. Same result. Then i used a HDMI cable from my monitor to my motherboards HDMI slot. Still, with the same result. I plugged my Xbox 360 up to monitor with the HDMI cable and it looks fine so it's not on the monitor's end.
When the computer is loading, the screen stays black. Then when my desktop would normally show is when the pixels show up and the rest of the screen is black.
When using my dell laptop, the screen will get quick tiny color lines and then go white blank and the only way to get it back up is to close my computer and wait about 2 minutes and sometimes I have to do this several times. This usually only happens if my computer is not plugged but also happens when it is just not as often.

View 7 Replies View Relatedso i finally decided to install Windows 7 x86 - everything went well - put all the standard stuff on there etc - i rebooted many times because of installations and updates
on my last reboot it just got stock in the bios screen (verifying dmi pool data..success! etc)
so i rebooted, same thing, took the disc out, same thing - turned off boot devices same thing
tried to use window's useless repair tools (whatever happened to repair install?) which didn't help - so i decided to format and reinstall - then it says it was unable to do that (partition error or something)
the annoying this is...is that this EXACT..i mean EXACT same thing happened when i installed vista sp1 from scratch - this happened - and to fix it i had to leave my pc open overnight with the hard drive cables all unplugged..in the morning with my fingers crossed i tried the installation again - and it worked.
my d: always disappears (single hard disk sata 233gig (250)) - sometimes it'll vanish from my computer and stuff - but this can't be the problem because the d: is a single drive on its own - my c: is a25gig partition from my e: - so it's completely unrelated.
does it matter how i replug the sata cables (2 of them) into the mother board? - they're both being recognised anyway
this is really annoying though - mostly because there isn't really an explanation - and because this random stuff always happens to my pc! - is it my hard drive because that's the only thing that would half- make sense
