Network Adapters Won't Install - Parameter Is Incorrect

Mar 30, 2012

Upgraded to windows 7 ultimate 64bit from vista ultimate 64 bit. That didnt fix it. I'm desparate. I've tried everything I can find. It has a realtek 8169 nic on board sabertooth x85. I tried USB adapter and where it normally loads it just says it's installed but shows up in device manager. Like thw tealtek nic with yellow triangle on it. If I try an update driver it returns "parameter is incorrect" message. Its not connected and the is no IP using ipconfig. I Lost all my software CDs and emails with serials etc in a house fire last year.

Running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. Oh yeah, consider this my 2nd question, before I was trying to make a new partition I tried installing Mandriva via the disk, but it filled like 50 GB worth of files and I can't find those files.

Windows 7 Will Not Update - Error 0x80070057 / Parameter Incorrect

Jan 21, 2012

I cannot get windows to update. I have used windows update agent fix it tool, but it always gets an error when trying to run it. I have tried turning off all firewalls and AV programs, but still cannot update. When going to services.msc, it shows update service as stopped. when I try to start it, I get the message:

'Windows could not start the windows update service on local computer. Error 0x80070057: the parameter is incorrect.'

When I click check updates under the windows update program, it says cant update due to service not running. I have checked my ipv6 and ipv4, and both are setup to automatic I have tried using tdsskiller to ensure no rootkits are present, and I'm clean. I ran AV scans and spyware scans, but all come up clean. I have ran system file checker, and chkdsk, but both were fine.

Cannot Create System Repair / Recovery Disc - Parameter Incorrect (0x80070057)

Jan 3, 2010

I am unable to create a system repair / recovery disc by either running recDisc.exe or using the option to create a recovery disk in Backup and Retore. It says System Repair Disc could not be created. "The parameter is incorrect (0x80070057)". I have tried using both a blank CDr and a DVDr. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. I am wondering if this is caused by how I setup my dual boot system.

I installed Win 7 to a clean HD first. I noted that it set up a 100 Mb recovery partition. I then realized there was no good way to convert this to a dual boot, so wiped the partitions and set up four news ones: one for XP, one for Windows 7, one for data, and a 133 Mb one in hopes that the installation process would find and use it for the recovery partition. I installed XP first, and then Windows 7 and directed that installation to the partition I had previously setup for it.

"The Parameter Is Incorrect. 00000057"

Dec 8, 2012

I've tried to install with the included CD, plug and play, device manager, and installation program from the manufacturer's website and still get the same error: "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device.(Code 31)". I have tried to install with Norton Internet Security un-installed, with the Windows firewall disabled, with a clean boot, and in Safe Mode with no luck. Initially I had another brand of network adapter that I tried to install, and got the same error so I returned it thinking it was faulty. Same problem with the Belkin. I have ran the sfc /scannow in the command prompt as administrator: "Windows Resource protection did not find any integrity violations". I also ran the WindowsFixit tool, which did not work either. Under the Device Manager I found the Install Error: "The parameter is incorrect. 00000057". When I try to update the driver from the device manager, it tells me the best driver is already installed. It still has the yellow exclamation point on the "Belkin Wireless Adapter" in the Device Manager.

Unidentified Network; No Network Access - Powerline Adapters

Dec 1, 2011

Today, I managed to redecorate my bedroom; where my computer sat on top of a shaky, wooden desk. That desk is now gone, caput, and replaced by a much bigger, sturdier and prettier glass replacement. Before I dissasembled the computer to re-decorate, I was able to browse the internet at ease. There were no problems at all...However, after the new desk was setup - and all wires replaced in their correct slots, I find that I am unable to connect to the internet, or even the house's network! For the past year, I have been wired to the router using a RTL8168C(P)/8111C(P) Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC. It was plugged into an extension cord, in my room, into the Ethernet port in the back of my computer. Downstairs, it's twin was situated no less than 2 feet away from the router - plugged into the first port. Now, when I boot up the computer, the network notification presents the following message: "Unidentified Network. No network access", and sometimes presents a yellow ! next to it. So, I am reduced to typing on my mother's laptop - which has no problems connecting to the network.I am able to use the ipconfig /release command, but unable to use the /renew - it hangs in the command prompt, then tells me that the DHCP server cannot be located. The IP, beforehand, was reverted to 169.254.223.117 - before all of this, I was 192.168.0.5?

Network Adapters Not Working In Windows 7

Jul 27, 2011

I am having problems with any type of Network Card or Network USB adapter working with my PC running Windows 7. I had a LinkSys WMP54G PCI card working on this computer about a year ago as I was needing to use a wireless connection but then I didn't use it for 6 months. When I went to use it again, it wouldn't pick up connections at all. Thinking it was an issue with the card, I picked up a Edimax 7612UAn USB adapter thinking it should work out of the box.

When I plug the USB adapter in, the standard Windows driver installation tries to run but an error message occurs stating "Device driver software was not successfully installed" accompanied by "Realtek RTL8191SU Wireless LAN 802.11n USB Failed". If I try to install the drivers manually, nothing changes and in Device Manager the following error message is displayed under Device Status "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)".

Cannot Access Router With External Network Adapters

May 31, 2011

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit) on a Dell Inspiron 560. I am using a DI-524 D-Link wireless router. I have an Acer Aspire One Net Book running Windows XP Home it is equipped with an internal wireless network adapter. I can connect/communicate with router and access the internet with no problems whatever. However, when I connect an external wireless network adapter e.g. Alpha AWUS036H I cannot get a connection when I disable my internal network adapter. I have also tried the Trendnet TEW-424UB USB external wireless network adapter and the symptoms are exactly the same. If I leave home and use another Wireless point of access I have no trouble connecting using the external adapters which means the problem is confined to my personal home network. I have removed and reinstalled my router, and the network adapters drivers etc. I have uninstalled my Norton Firewall and and disabled my Windows firewall to no avail. I have removed my WEP security features and tried to run it open with no improvement. I have connected the external network adapters on a neighbours computer running XP to see if I could connect to my home network. That didn't work as well. Bottom line is I simply cannot get an external wireless network adapter to work with my router. Yet my internal netbook adapter connects with no problems at all.

Delete Many Duplicate Virtual Network Adapters?

Sep 9, 2012

I have over 50 virtual networking adapters in device manager, I have posted this question in many forums, and still cannot get rid of these pesky unused extra adapters. I know they have been created by using Virtualbox, and by creating many virtual machines and updating virtualbox. Unfortunately, I have tried uninstalling virtualbox and the drivers all remain in devicemanager. DeviceMgmt also does not allow me to uninstall or delete the adapters, (When I do they just stay there, even after rebooting.)I most likely have to go into the registry and delete them, but they are in so many different places there, I need to know the correct place to delete them. I have a bet that this is the forum where I will get the answer for this even though I have posted in virtualbox forums, technet, MSDN, superuser, serverfault, and stackoverflow.

Windows 7 Won't Load Drivers For Network Adapters

May 30, 2012

Anyways my problem is that my vaio is running Windows 7 64bit and suddenly one morning NONE of the network adapters were working. No WiFi, no ethernet, no nothing. I figured something just happened to the drivers (happened before) so i'd just reinstall them...except this time I'm hit with:

Code :This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)

I have tried everything short of a full restore. I tried downloading the drivers straight from Sony, just the driver files for Atheros, I can't do a restore point since I don't have any from before the problem. I have searched everywhere for a working solution but haven't found anything yet. I would like to avoid sending it in.....it's still under warranty but I don't have a Sony store near me and I'm gonna be going out of town in a couple weeks..

Deleted Registry Entry To Fix Code 31 / Network Adapters Won't Work

Jan 12, 2013

The comp started BSOD'ing out of nowhere, a new adapter I think called ISATAP or something like that shows up under network adapters in device manager which had a yellow exclamation icon. (Code: 31). Disabling or uninstalling its drivers resulted in BSOD's. Googled around and found the only way to fix it was to delete some registry entries, so without backing up the registry I deleted some keys. I don't remember which keys but the image above is the result. I got Ubuntu live booted up and using it to post this because my Win 7 installation obviously can't connect to the Internet.

*I tried reinstalling drivers (Marvel Yukon & Belkin), disabling and enabling stuff but nothing seems to be happening.

*Got some registry fixing tools or whatever, still the same.

Wireless Adapters Won't Install - Device Manager Empty

The computer just refuses to detect them (although it beeps to indicate it knows a device has been plugged in). A lot of the methods I searched for to fix this issue told me to look in Device Manager, which is empty... None of the methods I've found have worked (Editing permissions etc). I'm tempted to just re-install Windows.

Clean Install Windows 7 Over XP Pro - Incorrect Version For PC

Jan 17, 2011

I'm trying to install Windows 7 on my wife's PC that currently has Windows XP Pro SP3 32 bit. The PC is a year old and has AMD II X250 cpu's on an ASUSTeK Computer INC. M3N78-EM motherboard with 4 Gb RAM and a 500 Gb hard disk, a NVIDIA GeForce 8300 display adaptor and an Iiyama 17 " monitor. When it first failed I thought it was due to only having 1.85 Gb free of 60 Gb on drive C, so I used Easus to delete drive E with 437 Gb and increase drive C to be the whole 500 Gb. Still no joy, so I looked at the installation guides on the web and realised I had to change the boot sequence in the BIOS so that the CD drive came before the hard disk.

If I try to boot from the Windows 7 Home Premium family pack CD I get the option to boot from CD or DVD, which I accept by hitting a key. The screen then displays "Starting Windows" with a progress bar, after which the Microsoft logo is displayed and then finally the Windows 7 splash screen is displayed. After this, nothing further happens. The mouse cursor moves with the mouse but the keyboard doesn't appear to be active. The CD continues to spin for a while before it too gets bored and shuts down. If I start running XP and then use Windows Explorer to start the setup.exe on the CD I get an error message telling me that I have the incorrect version for the PC.
