View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to shrink my hard drive (500 GB) so I can try out Mandriva OS but I can't, whenever I try to do so i keep getting parameter is incorrect. Any suggestions guys? Running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. Oh yeah, consider this my 2nd question, before I was trying to make a new partition I tried installing Mandriva via the disk, but it filled like 50 GB worth of files and I can't find those files.

View 2 Replies View RelatedUpgraded to windows 7 ultimate 64bit from vista ultimate 64 bit. That didnt fix it. I'm desparate. I've tried everything I can find. It has a realtek 8169 nic on board sabertooth x85. I tried USB adapter and where it normally loads it just says it's installed but shows up in device manager. Like thw tealtek nic with yellow triangle on it. If I try an update driver it returns "parameter is incorrect" message. Its not connected and the is no IP using ipconfig. I Lost all my software CDs and emails with serials etc in a house fire last year.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI cannot get windows to update. I have used windows update agent fix it tool, but it always gets an error when trying to run it. I have tried turning off all firewalls and AV programs, but still cannot update. When going to services.msc, it shows update service as stopped. when I try to start it, I get the message:
'Windows could not start the windows update service on local computer. Error 0x80070057: the parameter is incorrect.'
When I click check updates under the windows update program, it says cant update due to service not running. I have checked my ipv6 and ipv4, and both are setup to automatic I have tried using tdsskiller to ensure no rootkits are present, and I'm clean. I ran AV scans and spyware scans, but all come up clean. I have ran system file checker, and chkdsk, but both were fine.
I had to reset my computer to factory settings a while back. I've done nothing to it except download advanced system optimizer and windows antivirus. This was a miracle alone due to the fact that my Computer locks up for extensive periods of time and will barely ever finish a task; such as transferring a picture to USB drive, scan, or any click command. It has never done this before the reset.
View 9 Replies View RelatedSo I can't change the drive letter. Do I need to use Partition Magic again? The more I keep hearing/reading "do you have a backup?" - makes me believe the tool (OS) isn't capable of handling/accessing the data properly.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am unable to create a system repair / recovery disc by either running recDisc.exe or using the option to create a recovery disk in Backup and Retore. It says System Repair Disc could not be created. "The parameter is incorrect (0x80070057)". I have tried using both a blank CDr and a DVDr. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. I am wondering if this is caused by how I setup my dual boot system.
I installed Win 7 to a clean HD first. I noted that it set up a 100 Mb recovery partition. I then realized there was no good way to convert this to a dual boot, so wiped the partitions and set up four news ones: one for XP, one for Windows 7, one for data, and a 133 Mb one in hopes that the installation process would find and use it for the recovery partition. I installed XP first, and then Windows 7 and directed that installation to the partition I had previously setup for it.
I bought a computer on craigslist a while back and it's been working great and all but lately it started slowing down really badly. I play WoW and Skyrim mostly. I used to be able to play at 60 fps or so now I can drop from 30-15 fps. I considered doing a system restore but there weren't any restore points because there weren't any being created every week or so for some reason. So really the only option I have now is to completely restore my computer to it's original settings. When I first bought the computer the guy who sold it to me told me that he'd wiped the hard drives clean and that's what I'm trying to do right now but he never gave me a back up disk or a disk for the OS which is what I'm really worried about. He had windows 7 ultimate installed. I'm afraid that if I try to do a factory reset that I won't have an OS to reinstall onto my computer.
These are my specs if they matter any.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIn some hotels, they have it set so if you add/uninstall or change anything, it resets to the way it was, after robot. How do I get this computer to do that?
It has Windows 7: Ultimate (32-Bit). Also, I don't want everything to reset, just some things.
I'm fixing my sisters computer, It froze on her, when she tried to start it up again it went into some sort of system repair mode and after about 20hrs of this (no joke) it gave me the option to restore the computer to factory settings, it also gave me the option to install some sort of backup on the hard drive, however i tried this and it said there was no room on the hard drive (if i didn't know any better I'd say the problem was with the hard drive) i went ahead with the system recovery as it seemed to be the only way to fix the computer (i know i sound like an oaf) now the computer is showing me a screen which states that i need to insert my windows installation disc, however the laptop has no disc drive!
