View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm working on a friends PC, a win 7 64 bit on a Lenovo Ideapad model B560. This thing has One Key Recovery installed.. Instead of having factory restore disks this tool recovers the system to factory defaults via a hidden partition that contains the restore data.More info about One Key Recovery here What is OneKey Recovery? - Yahoo! AnswersYou cannot change or resize partitions or One Key Recovery wont work. This PC had malware on it and can't boot into normal windows mode (that's the main problem) .. but it will boot into safe mode. I removed the malware with Malwarebytes but the PC still wont boot in normal mode. I tried to use One key Recovery but it refuses to work in safe mode.
One Key Recovery sets up the PC with 3 separate partitions. A C drive for Windows and pre-installed Lenovo software, a D drive that's large for data and the hidden recovery partition. I don't want to cripple this functionality so I can't do a complete reinstall of windows from a win 7 dvd. I thought I'd use a win 7 dvd to do a repair install instead - hoping this wont mess with the partitions but just fix the windows errors keeping it from booting normally. I'd be using the Win 7 64 bit with service pack 1 integrated from Digital River.I want to know before I try this - will it work? Will it fix the errors without messing with the partitions? If so, perhaps after it's finished, I will then be able to use the One Key Recovery option if I need it. I have to verify this before I try it and mess something up that I can't recover from
I recently got a Lenovo V570 laptop. I was going to do a Clean Install of Win 7 to get the crapware off of the C: drive. I have ran across many threads about when doing a clean install the wifi doesn't work. I have searched for a lot of hours to find the solution and finally have found it but do not quite understand it. View 7 Replies View RelatedI am using Windows 7 - Home Premium 64bit. There is only one user on this machine which is Administrator and this computer is not connected with any networks. I am trying to move all of User's folders to D: drive. I have successfully moved, My Pictures, My Documents, My Videos, Contacts and other folders but when I try to move "Desktop" folder, it gives me an error message at the end of the operation (after coping all the data to the new location) that "Folder Redirection Failed", "Operation was cancelled by the user". I have tried to change the location several times for this Desktop folder but every time I do it, I get this error message.
Now situation is... Data from my Desktop is present in its default location but also copied to D:UsersMyNameDesktop folder. Means, exactly the same data is placed on two different locations but default Desktop location is still at C: drive. Why I am unable to change my Desktop location? I am trying to change the location by right clicking on Desktop folder in User's folder, then Properties and then Location tab. It's exactly the same way by which I moved all of my other User's folders successfully.
I have an Acer Aspire AX3400 desktop running Windows 7 64bit. I have been having all sorts of problems over several months. The machine, when left unattended, appears to be always "recovering from serious error" with subsequent memory dumps. The machine would not shut down without me having to switch it off. Subsequently the machine would not start up properly. iTunes would not open without a reboot etc etc etc.I decided to backup all my data and restore to factory settings. This has failed/ is incomplete. It hung for several hours at different stages of the process. I keep getting the message "Setting up PC for first use" and does not move on from there

Have tried to resolve issue with Canon powershot S50 connected by USB no longer functioning with W7.On occasions the only response is the pop up message driver device failed to install. The camer is recognised under " Device and Printers" When I trouble shoot response is to visit manufacturers site and download driver - not required under Windows compatibility listing.Have gone to Device Manager and removed all reference to Canon Camera under Portable devices but get same result. View 1 Replies View RelatedI just wanted to document my ordeal here for two reasons: 1.) in order to share my experience and 2.) beacause after 36+ hours of attempting to find a solution to my problem I could NOT find one and did a few things myself to remedy and fix the situation. This experience needs to be shared in case someone else goes through this and like me, NONE of the suggested fixes work. After a failed windows 7 install using an upgrade disc (clean install, no previous OS - this is possible with the right sequence of installation, google it). I continually recieved the error "Bootmgr is missing press ctrl+alt+delete+ to restart".There are many walkthroughs on the internet detailing how to remedy this problem BUT all of them are assuming Windows has been successfully installed and that you can repair it using the install disc and clicking "repair" when putting it into the disc drive and loading it before booting. My problem of course was that the OS was not successfully installed, therefore I had no way to access the repair options.I removed the hard drive and put it into a working PC and it was detected; reformatted the drive, scanned it using Western Digital's (it's a WD Caviar Blue 500gb) software to check for drive health as I assumed the drive was bad. The drive was reformatted successfully and the long test revealed no issues, the drive was healthy. I put it back into the new rig, checked cables, replaced sata cords, powered on and "Bootmgr is missing press ctrl+alt+delete+ to restart"
Went into BIOS and made sure boot order was correct - it was.Used a piece of software meant to fix bootmgr issues (url...) - no luck.I went ahead and performed memtest86+ 4.21 and detected tens of thousands of errors in the ram. This narrowed it down. I replaced the ram with ram I know has no errors and booted up. "Bootmgr is missing press ctrl+alt+delete+ to restart".This is when I realized that it must be connected to the bad install and that before tossing this PC out of the window of a moving car, I should wipe the drive completely and start over, as something on the drive must be corrupted, despite the reformat and health of the drive. Using DBAN Boot and Nuke (http://www.dban.org/download) I wiped the drive completely (took 10 hours or so). I prayed this would solve my problems and guess what: IT DID! At this point after restarting after Boot and Nuke and putting in the upgrade disc and went forward with my installation NO "Bootmgr is missing press ctrl+alt+delete+ to restart" and the install went perfectly.
I can't boot my windows 7 after creating a partition E and activated it, to install windows 8. It asks me to press any key to start from dvd and when I do that, I am prompted to press ctrl +alt+delete to restart but nothing happens and the screen freezes. In other words, I can just access the bios.Afer many trials to boot from dvd or usb or hard disk ,the computer is somehow dead. The pc is running an intel Dual Core on a gigabyte "GA-EP41-UDL3".
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy computer was having some problems every time I booted it up. Upon start up, I would receive an error message saying "windows failed to start, a recent hardware or software change might have caused the problem" and would give me some options to pick from like Safe Mode options and Start Normally. I would click "start windows normally" and my computer would boot up normally and run just fine. But every time I turn my computer off, I come back the next day with the same error message. I tried running the windows repair option but it would never find anything.
I decided I would just perform a clean install and just be done with it, but after doing that, I tried booting my computer to have the SAME error message. Same thing happens, I just click start normally and it works fine. It's just a total hassle to have to deal with this error message every time I try turning my computer on. Since I performed the clean install, I have very little things re installed to the computer like Java and what not. I wouldn't think it would be Java because I have had that the entire time I have owned the computer and only recently got the error messages.
Just got a new Asus Zenbook UX31E and am having a certain problem where if I plug my external drive (Samsung S2 1TB, USB 3.0, 2.5") into the 3.0 port windows tries to install a driver for the new device but fails. Now the drive powers on when connected but wont load up as an accessible drive and is not found is disc management.I've tried the HDD successfully in another laptop with USB 3.0 and it works fine on my Zenbook's USB 2.0 port so I'm guessing there's no problem with the HDD itself. Also I have tried a small flash drive in the Zenbook's 3.0 port which worked fine.I have tried updating the USB 3.0 driver to the latest version via Asus' driver database but have got the same result.I would of thought with such a prestigious laptop someone else would of run across this problem but all my googling has turned up ziltch.
