Lenovo U400 Conexant Internal Microphone Receives Static Input
Sep 12, 2012Recently received my U400 and the microphone worked great. However, at some point during a Skype call, my partner could not hear me very well and was only able to hear static on my end.
I checked my sound setting and under the "Recording" tab, the Conexant Internal Microphone was very active and "loud" (as if I was constantly talking). I went under properties and checked "Listen to this device" and all I could hear was static. I tried talking but couldn't hear myself. Lowering microphone level didn't seem to change the amount of static I hear from my microphone. I turned off mic boosts and enhancements, but it didn't change static.
Internal microphone is set as default device. Stereo mix is similarly active and loud. Driver version is 8.54.19.0. (up to date). Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.
Tried uninstalling driver and letting Windows install a new driver, but problem persisted. Pretty much can't use microphone to record, but it shows that it is active and is receiving a lot of sound somehow.

Jul 15, 2010I have a Dell Vostro 1500, running 32-bit Windows 7. It came with Vista, but I upgraded to Windows 7 a couple months ago, which I think is causing the issues I'm experiencing. According to whoever I'm speaking with, the sound for the microphone built in to my webcam fades in and out and gets really loud randomly. In an attempt to solve this, I bought an external microphone which also does not work. The sound driver is the SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC, version 6.10.0.5614. When I tried to update it through Windows 7's update driver software it says I have the best version for my system, but I still suspect that this could be what is causing the problem.

Instead of having factory restore disks this tool recovers the system to factory defaults via a hidden partition that contains the restore data.More info about One Key Recovery here What is OneKey Recovery? - Yahoo! AnswersYou cannot change or resize partitions or One Key Recovery wont work. This PC had malware on it and can't boot into normal windows mode (that's the main problem) .. but it will boot into safe mode. I removed the malware with Malwarebytes but the PC still wont boot in normal mode. I tried to use One key Recovery but it refuses to work in safe mode.
One Key Recovery sets up the PC with 3 separate partitions. A C drive for Windows and pre-installed Lenovo software, a D drive that's large for data and the hidden recovery partition. I don't want to cripple this functionality so I can't do a complete reinstall of windows from a win 7 dvd. I thought I'd use a win 7 dvd to do a repair install instead - hoping this wont mess with the partitions but just fix the windows errors keeping it from booting normally. I'd be using the Win 7 64 bit with service pack 1 integrated from Digital River.I want to know before I try this - will it work? Will it fix the errors without messing with the partitions? If so, perhaps after it's finished, I will then be able to use the One Key Recovery option if I need it. I have to verify this before I try it and mess something up that I can't recover from

Is there any other way towards activating the boost or do I just have to wait until Creative releases a Windows 7 beta driver with microphone boost included?I also checked if the problem comes from my headset, but it's working fine under Windows XP with microphone boost enabled. Sep 26, 2012when I plug my headphones into the rear jack of my computer (there is no front jack) the speaker portion works fine. It's the microphone that does not work. The computer has no problem detecting the microphone and it says that it is working properly. The mute on the headphone set is not turned on, nor any muting button on the computer. I have Windows 7 pro installed. I've have updated the Microsoft drivers and still did not work. I then tried the Realtek drivers and updated them as well with no success. The microphone work perfectly on my other computer that has 7 Premium on it. The motherboard is a new ASUS Rampage IV.
