I was recovering my laptop to it's factory settings, and during this, I closed the lid which caused it to hibernate mid recovery. When I now lift up the lid and click the power button, it does not switch on, as though it has been drained of power (it hasn't)I have tried putting it on the AC and holding power for 30 seconds.I've tried it without the battery, with and all the possible ways; all resulting in a dead end

I want to have a Factory Reset of my computer. In order to launch a System Recovery, I need to create Restore Discs. When I launch the Recovery Disc Creation, it says:"This computer does not have a burning drive, which is required to make DVDs. Please contact HP Support for asistance."My computer did not come with a build in CD Drive. Even plugging in a USB CD Drive will not make creating the discs possible. So. I ask you. How can I reset my computer to Factory Condition?
Computer Specs:
Windows 7 Home Premium (64-Bit)
Model: HP Pavillion dm3 Notebook PC
edit: This notebook came with a Recovery Partition built in.

I decided to do a system recovery for my laptop. I've already done a couple of experiments before and from what I remember the first time I done a system recovery, the partition where my personal files where saved did not get deleted. The only thing that was "system recovered" was the partition where the OS was located. Yesterday, I again decided to do a recovery but this time, the partition where I have my files got deleted and the space it had "returned" to the OS partition. Orignally, I shrunk the OS partition so that I can have space for my partition for my personal files. If it helps, I've done a "system recovery" but saw one of it has a "mini system recovery" option. What is the difference?

I recently had a power outage while Windows 7 (x64) was loading. System booted up fine. I went to do a system restore, but could not. When I go to select a restore point is says, "System Protection is turned off". I never turned it off and it will not let me turn it on. The C: clearly shows protection is turned on, but when I select system restore it says it is turned off.
I think I read most of the posts here on this issue, but no go. What I have tried:Manually create restore point- Works fine. Repeated many times. . Turned System Protection Off and then back On- No difference Ran WMI.bet- No change Deleted all restore points- No change Ran VSS List Shadows- Got hits even though I had deleted all restore points Verified VSS is on- I have seen posts to say set to manual and set to auto. I have done both. No difference. SFC /SCANNOW- Found no integrity violations Tried to do a Repair Install- Cannot. I am running SP1. Comes back saying it cannot be done.

My Windows 7 x64 desktop box developed a problem this morning with the ACLS file that Windows diagnostics could not fix. After several attempts, I decided to do a non-destructive re-set via the recovery management software included with the box (eMachines 1331, which came with no disks, only recovery partition).
The process seemed to go smoothly, but the Restore Progress screen has been sitting at 'Please wait a moment...' for well over an hour now and I'm puzzled. Shouldn't there be some sort of progress bar indicating how long remaining in the process, or is it meant to just sit on the 'Please wait a moment...' with the trailing dots cycling from 1 to 5 dots as it is doing?
The drive is 683 gigs usable, with about 50% in use for files and programs.

I am attempting to transfer my system from my 250gb hdd to a new 3tb hddand am having trouble. I have created a system image on my usb external drive.I then created a system repair disc (cd-rom). I rebooted my system, went intothe BIOS and put the cd-rom drive as the primary boot device and put the new 3tb drive as the primary drive. I have even deleted the 250gb drive in thelist of drives because of some info I read trying to solve my problem. When theboot completes I get a System recovery options windows requesting keyboardcountry - US and click next. Then get a System Recovery Options window witha message "This version of System Recovery Options is not compatible with theversion of windows you are trying to repair. Try using a recovery disc that is

First off, I'd like to point out that I'm kind computer literate and some technical things you guys may say may be over my head. That being said, here's what happened.I booted up our Sony Viao running Windows 7 and a window popped up talking about system recovery. At the time I didn't even know what that meant, so I was like "what's this BS" and exited out of the window. Then the computer went into system recovery mode. I just thought it was doing an update of some sort, so I walked away and let it do it's thing. I at the time didn't know that while I was watching tv, our computer was erasing all of our data. When I came back, it was finished and said "restoring to factory settings". Then it set-up for first time use, pick a password, ect. Loosing our important documents is one thing, but we're super bummed we lost all of pictures of our daughters first year and a half of life. I know it's our fault for not backing up our files and we will from now on.So my question is, is there a possibility that the data wasn't wiped completely off the hard drive? Could the data just have been moved to another part of the hard drive and not be erased until that space is needed? I've tried booting up in "safe mode", but that didn

Just picked up my first Win7 computer, and it came with no discs. No surprise there, but I'd like to make some recovery discs, but not the kind that Windows says you can make. I don't want access to tools for recovery, I want access to a physical install of the OS and the drivers.
Like the discs enterprise people get when they buy their machines. I must be googling wrong, because all I'm finding are results that teach me how to create a recovery tools disc, which isn't quite what I'm looking for.

I have a Dell XPS 17 laptop that has dual drives - c & d.The c drive crashed and was replaced by dell.We are now trying to do a system image recovery from the d drive. We are following How to do a System Image Recovery in Window7 from seven forums.com.url...After Selecting the System Image from the D Drive (STEP TWO, # 5 and 6), the computer prompts to create a repair disk. The only way to move forward is to create or not create the disk.In either case, it then has you restart the machine, takes you through the process again.. Step 5/6.Never gets to Step 7 to actually DO the System Recover.

I am having trouble with a friends computer... his computer was becoming unresponsive with up to an hour start up times before he was able to use it. We tried to run anti-virus software but wouldn't complete any scans.
We decided to go ahead and save all the files he needed and do a complete system recovery f11 (format hard drives back to factory settings) when started it takes about an hour or two and hangs up at 9% and will go no further. Left it overnight to no avail.

I had first installed Windows Vista Ultimate x64 on a unpartitioned 640GB drive. I then partitioned my other 320GB drive to install two things:
A FAT32 30GB partition of Windows XP Home
A NTFS 160GB partition of Windows 7 Home Premium x64
The remaining space (around 108GB) was left unpartitioned I then decided to uninstall Windows Vista. So I opened up EasyBCD and deleted the entry, then deleted the partition (this was after backing up all files.) So I erased the partition. When I went to start up Windows 7 I got an error code saying:
File: windowssystem32winload.exe
Status: 0xc0000428
Info: WIndows cannot verify the digital signature for this file.
It tells me that I can either use the recovery tool with the Windows 7 disc or press F8 to temporarily disable the driver signature enforcement. The problem is that F8 doesn't work (if I go back and press F8, I get the same error screen) and when I put in the Windows 7 disc and boot up from it, none of my OS entries show up in the recovery console. Now because I have a multiboot system, I can boot into XP fine. It's just the Windows 7 entry that produces the error message. So I'm stuck. I've been searching around for days and everyone either says to use the disc (which doesn't work) or to reinstall Windows (which I would prefer not to do because I can't find another key and don't want to use another Key for Office 2010). Some more info, when I boot into Ubuntu live usb, all the partitions are present and all the files in Windows 7 are present including winload.exe on the Win 7 partition.
