View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently noticed my network and battery icons have disappeared off my taskbar. When I tried to put them back, the check boxes in customize notification area were greyed out. I did a little research and people who had the same problem said to run "sfc /scannow" in command prompt. After attempting that, cmd gave me an error.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently had a power outage while Windows 7 (x64) was loading. System booted up fine. I went to do a system restore, but could not. When I go to select a restore point is says, "System Protection is turned off". I never turned it off and it will not let me turn it on. The C: clearly shows protection is turned on, but when I select system restore it says it is turned off.
I think I read most of the posts here on this issue, but no go. What I have tried:Manually create restore point- Works fine. Repeated many times. . Turned System Protection Off and then back On- No difference Ran WMI.bet- No change Deleted all restore points- No change Ran VSS List Shadows- Got hits even though I had deleted all restore points Verified VSS is on- I have seen posts to say set to manual and set to auto. I have done both. No difference. SFC /SCANNOW- Found no integrity violations Tried to do a Repair Install- Cannot. I am running SP1. Comes back saying it cannot be done.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWindows 7 Home Edition, SP 1: Occasionally (maybe once per month or so) when I log into my user account (no admin privileges), the icons for sound, power, and networking do not display on the right side of the task bar, but the icons for anti-virus & firewall are displayed. So I log off, log back into the account, and the icons display properly. This problem happens rarely so it is not a problem. But I am curious why it occurs.
View 2 Replies View RelatedFollowing the latest windows update (possibly a coincidence) I now have two instances of my cd drive showing in the notification area.
These relate to the Vaio power management. I did think that it might be a cache problem so I ran the icon cache clearer found here Notification Area Icons - Reset
But after a reboot they are both back. In the task manager there are two instances of SPMgr.exe
I have a fully updated Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 and sometimes some icons don't appear in the system tray when I boot up my PC. Then I have to reboot it in order to get them to show up. They are all set to "Show icon and notifications" in the notification are.So why is that happening and how can I solve it so that they would appear every time I boot up my PC?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIn Vista, I was able to pack more icons in the system tray, in the same amount of space, than in 7. In comparable space I was able to fit 3 to 4 moreicons in Vista than in 7 Is there a way to condense these icons in 7?
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I want to hide an icon that is showing in my system tray. It's not really necessary to be there, and there is no option to not show it there. This is for a launch manager on a laptop. I've gone to customize and changed it to "hide icons and notifications" for this particular program, but it still shows. is there a way to get rid of this?
View 10 Replies View RelatedHow do I go about doing this? I have been searching google for a while now and all the hits I get are about how to show/hide them or about changing icons for task bar, which is not what I'm talking about...

I have windows 7 64 bit ultimate installed with SP1 I am not sure when this issue began, it used to work just fine at one point months back.basically certain system based icon, for example My Computer, Network, or anything at the bottom near the clock, such as Windows Update, or the Network Access icon I can right click on it them, and click properties, but nothing happens, with Windows Update, the icon doesn't start the program. On My computer i can do anything, with right click function, rename, map network drive, manage, etc. just no properties.I also noticed this in the Control Panel, for example, I click on Display, then i click on Adjust Resolution, nada. Calibrate color works, but Change Display Settings doesnt.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently installed the latest bluetooth drivers from the ASUS website for my P8Z68-V PRO because I was getting an unknown device showing up in my device management which, by process of elimination, I knew was onboard bluetooth. Now, on startup I get two bluetooth icons in my system tray; however, when I hover over one it dissapears - but it always appears when I reboot.I couldn't seem to find the root of the second bluetooth icon. There is only one bluetooth device now and no unknown since I installed the driver and I can't seem to find anything in programs list etc. to remove. Why is the icon appearing and how do I eliminate the problem? (it still apears if I select hide icon and notifications in customize system tray)

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have: reset the icon cache, reset registry settings (perhaps regretting it now? no effect), tried IconPackager. So the problem is that I have missing icons for all .exe's on my system, except newly installed ones. I also have a problem with any folder that contains a file. (when a folder has a file in it, it shows a preview of it inside the folder: that is the icon that is messed up, the normal folder with nothing in it is fine).I replaced that icon a while ago and then tried to set it back with IconPackager, but it never reset that icon (all the rest are fine). Lastly, shortcut icons are also screwed up.I can manually reset shortcut icons by re-referencing the .exe, but not the .exe icons themselves.
I believe this may be to do with the fact that IconPackager was intended for XP or something like that, because I've readthat the way icons are linked to applications is done differently between the two OS.So, what I need is a way to, en mass, link all .exe's with their own icons that are bundled inside the .exe.Be it an app, a cmd line, whatever.I also need a way to reset that folder problem. I've tried with the Registry to no effect.
Recently I noticed that two unknown icons now show up in my system tray, having icon graphics of "A" "9". Double clicking on them, right-clicking, or simply hovering my mouse over them unfortunately does nothing -- I don't know what they are. I'm concerned they could be something malicious. Please see the attached screenshot that shows these 2 icons. I've also attached another screenshot showing all processes in the Task Manager.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is one of those things that could be worded in so many ways, there may be a solution out there but I have no idea what phrasing may have been used in such a case. Basically, I recently switched to using a vertical taskbar on the left side, more workable area on widescreen monitors. I love it so far, except for the change in system tray behavior. They're doubled up, which is fine, but if I have an odd number of icons it disturbs my general arrangement. This is hugely annoying for me as I frequently use the system tray to open multiple applications I always have open in the background, such as IRC or AIM.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have Windows 7 SP1, 32bit on my laptop. I have both wired connection, and wireless connection. It may not make much sense to have both active, but at times I do.
When I have both wired and wireless connected, why do I not have both the wired and wireless icons in the sys tray?
Is there any way to "turn on" these icons? In the taskbar properties notification area, I have "always show all icons" checked.
