View 2 RepliesI recently had a power outage while Windows 7 (x64) was loading. System booted up fine. I went to do a system restore, but could not. When I go to select a restore point is says, "System Protection is turned off". I never turned it off and it will not let me turn it on. The C: clearly shows protection is turned on, but when I select system restore it says it is turned off.
I think I read most of the posts here on this issue, but no go. What I have tried:Manually create restore point- Works fine. Repeated many times. . Turned System Protection Off and then back On- No difference Ran WMI.bet- No change Deleted all restore points- No change Ran VSS List Shadows- Got hits even though I had deleted all restore points Verified VSS is on- I have seen posts to say set to manual and set to auto. I have done both. No difference. SFC /SCANNOW- Found no integrity violations Tried to do a Repair Install- Cannot. I am running SP1. Comes back saying it cannot be done.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed the Ubuntu Operating system on my computer by mistake. Foolish. But that's what happened.I thought I was installing the Ubuntu that is used for storage purposes. When I tried to restart my computer it would not restart.I inserted the "Repair disc Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit" and eventually I got my computer to startup. So I am still able to use my computer normally. But my computer now seems to be totally corrupted because all drives are labeled incorrectly and Data1 and Data2 are completely missing. I know this is true because I saw the above info while using the Repair disc Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.It seems that I am stuck with a corrupt computer. What are my options? Is my only option to reinstall windows 7?Or do a backup from an Acronis image file? What can I do?Moderator Edit: Moved topic from Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs to the more appropriate forumRoger
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have 2 hard drives, the first has Win 7 RC1 and the second has XP and Vista in their own partitions. The Win 7 boot loader gives me the choice of Windows 7, Vista and XP when I boot up. The question is: If I install Ubuntu onto the second HD in a currently unoccupied partion, will GRUB (which is sure to take over the booting process, from past experience) still leave me with the 3 choices I have now (assuming I do not select the Ubuntu prompt). I wwould hate to lose the ability to get into the 3 Win systems !

View 1 Replies View RelatedTried a system restore from the RC1 install disk? Mine lists about 8 restore points, but when I select one, it tells me that "You must enable System Protection for this drive." and it will not restore.. I understand that from the Brink tutorial on this topic of System Restore, that it's supposed to be on my default. There is no way I can check to see if it is on or off, because my computer will not boot. I certainly didn't turn it off, so I am wondering what is going on. It doesn't seem to make sense to create restore points if you can't use them.
View 9 Replies View Relatedi opened system protection today to find it hasnt been making restore points and that there was an error when i tried to set it up.My system came with Vista which I then set up to dual boot with 7, and then following that, I deleted Vista altogether. In system restore, I can see
System
Windows 7 C: (system)
Recovery
Windows 7 C: (missing)

I recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my HP Mini 110-1116NR, then deleted the partitions that had Ubuntu on them, not knowing that Ubuntu comes with GRUB2, and sets itself as the default boot for that system. Now that GRUB2 is not installed, since it was on my only HDD, it looks for the GRUB2 partition, which does not exist.
