View 1 RepliesIs it true that I need 3rd party software installed in order to play DVDs via the Windows Media Player. I seems to me that when I tried this I got a message to that effect. So, I have to purchase something like WinDVD or PowerDVD before I can watch a DVD movie???? $200 for Windows 7 and I got to spend more bucks to enhance the Media Player???? I must be dreaming!

View 12 Replies View RelatedI have a Toshiba Satellite C655-S5142 & Toshiba tells me the video card supports TV out. One article tells me all I need is a VGA to s-video adapter, but that doesn't work. (E-How) Another article tells me the jack on my computer must match the jack on my TV. (Windows.microsoft.com).
Too new to computers to know if this is needed to answer my question, but Windows 7 & Google Chrome.
Is what I'm attempting possible, or is it time to break down and get with the program with a HDTV ?
My DVD rom drive will not read dvds or dvd software but it will play cds, This has happened before to me but I was able to call someone, It happened after I Uninstalled Norton and I had to remove a key and restart the laptop up and it worked, But I cannot remember for the life of me on how to do it again, I Uninstalled Avg then reinstalled it since then my drive hasn't been playing dvds just cds. I know This is probably the same as what has happened before, I know I have to go into regedit but not sure where to go after that
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am having problems with Windows Media Center being recognized in my computer...I am having to use an external disc player to play dvd's. Cd's play fine, I am able to use my built in disc drive (in the tower/box), but I have no idea as to why it has stopped recognizing dvd's and not allowing Windows Media Center to play them, it used to. I can use Windows Media Player for ripping an burning music, etc. but not WMC!

View 2 Replies View RelatedDvd drive acting strangely. It will burn anything, cds or dvds. It will read dvds burned from laptop. It will not play any commercial dvd. I have tried old dvds and new ones, still nothing. I first tried uninstalling the drive, didn't work. Also tried deleting the upper and lower filters, still nothing. Then did a total recovery of the OS, still nothing. I'm at a loss. This drive is 2 years old, which isn't that old. I've pulled out the drive and made sure the terminals were clean, and that still didn't fix it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have my computer set up as a HTPC and is connected to my HDTV. The problem is, my TV only has two HD ports and I have three things to connect to it: TelusTV box, Blu-ray player, and computer. I don't want to have to leave the computer unlocked for all to access, but I'd like it to be as easy as possible for anyone to instantly start playing a disk, preferably without logging into a guest account first.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an external USB soundcard (Native Instruments Komplete Audio 6), and it has come to my attention that I am completely unable to play DVDs on my computer when my soundcard is connected. WMP does not give me any error message; it just abruptly stops playing the DVD and the DVD title becomes "Unknown DVD". However, when I disconnect my sound card, DVDs play as per normal.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI can play most DVDs without any bother with VLC. I recently got 'The World at War - Ultimate Restored Edition', but the discs won't play!
First, VLC just wouldn't open the DVD. I kept trying, and eventually it opened the DVD, but the audio and video were massively choppy.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalled VLC. Now the audio and video are distinctly less choppy, but it's still very irritating.
It's just these DVDs, and I don't get what's different about them!

I have a laptop with a VGA output.I have a PC which has 2xDVI outputs. I also have a VGA -> DVI output cable.
I can connect the 2 just find BUT how can I view the output of the PC to the laptop? So instead of having another monitor/display unit, I want the laptop to be able to see the output from the PC as if the PC were connected to a display unit.
I recently had a power outage while Windows 7 (x64) was loading. System booted up fine. I went to do a system restore, but could not. When I go to select a restore point is says, "System Protection is turned off". I never turned it off and it will not let me turn it on. The C: clearly shows protection is turned on, but when I select system restore it says it is turned off.
I think I read most of the posts here on this issue, but no go. What I have tried:Manually create restore point- Works fine. Repeated many times. . Turned System Protection Off and then back On- No difference Ran WMI.bet- No change Deleted all restore points- No change Ran VSS List Shadows- Got hits even though I had deleted all restore points Verified VSS is on- I have seen posts to say set to manual and set to auto. I have done both. No difference. SFC /SCANNOW- Found no integrity violations Tried to do a Repair Install- Cannot. I am running SP1. Comes back saying it cannot be done.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI was installing a long list of Win7 updates on my PC when the display abruptly shut off during installation. I know there was an update for the Intel integrated graphics chip somewhere in that mess of updates. The PC has that integrated GPU plus a GTX660 (with fully updated drivers). I didn't want to restart the PC, but I am unsure of what to do next.
