Windows 7 Update - PC Can't Repair Itself Or Safe Boot
Jun 24, 2011After installing windows 7 update plus one optional hardware update 2 days ago, windows wont start, repair itself, or safe boot. What should I do?

Windows 7 Safe Mode Boot Redirecting To Startup Repair
Dec 7, 2012Earlier today I tripped over a headphone cord and it flung my computer off my desk. I have an HP omni PC. It's the kind that had the computer and the monitor built together. I picked it back up off the floor. The power cord came out on impact. I set everything back up and was relived to hear it turn on. I selected start windows normally (win 7 64 bit) and it sat at starting windows forever. I eventually manually shutdown the computer. I powered back on and I got an option to start windows normally or use startup repair.
I thought it would be a good idea to go into startup repair. It just sat at the light blue screen with the large white mouse sitting there. Nothing happened. Nothing appeared on screen. I turned off the computer again and am just leaving it there for now. I am worried that the hard drive may have been disconnected from the fall and that's why windows won't start. Or maybe the hard drive was damaged. I tried doing a safe mode boot but it redirected me to startup repair.

Jan 1, 2013I have recently installed windows ultimate x64 on my computer.i have an asus p6t deluxe v2 mobo, i7-960 cpu and a wd velociraptor hdd. The install went ok, I even managed to restart my computer a few times after but after windows updates installed it won't boot. I tried to boot into safe mode, restore from the installer, and repair, none worked. After startup repair it says: "a patch is preventing the system from starting" and I get a 0x1f error code.(Preventing windows from downloading any updates didn't work either)

May 28, 2011I recently got a virus 2 days ago. It disable my possibilities from accessing any program or internet. I made a mistake by downloading a windows something ware to boot up security. It then crash...so I went to task manager didnt work, which i then went to search and entered msconfig. I then chose safe mode in minimal services. It then says loading files. U see a black screen with thite letters of the files being loaded. Then u see ur mouse cursor, and then it boots up again and same process. So I tried launch startup repair, it launches a repair, but it says it startup cannot repair this computer automactically. I then result into going to tapping f8..it goes to the screen of advanced options. Problem is if i try safe mode it will crash. I dont have a backup, and i dont want to lose my movies of over 700 gigs.

Dec 17, 2010my laptop starts up as the "windows did not shut down properly" screen where I can start windows normal to do repair. When I start windows normally it sends me to the repair screen. And when I select system repair it just freezes at a light blue and geen screen and the only thing showing is my cursor. Ive tried to run the system in safe mode but it freezes at classpnp.sys, and eventually sends me back to the repair screen that is frozen. I don't believe I have my windows 7 installation disk for my laptop so that is out of the equation.
My brother was using my computer and said it was updating when this happened so Im not sure what caused all this.

Mar 10, 2012every time i turn on my computer, I first get a message from AMI - "SATA 1:S.M.A.R.T. Status BAD". When I press F1 to continue, it progresses normally, until recently when i got "windows is loading files" then "startup repair" instead. Startup Repair searches, then finds a hard disk problem which it cant fix, and I can choose to reboot or try "advanced options"I've already tried safe mode, same thing happens.I've looked around, still not sure how to proceed - what caused this and can it be fixed without replacing my hardware?

I downloaded Windows 7 repair to a CD-R, chgd BIOS settings to CD/DVD to boot first, saved changes, and will NOT pull/boot up from disc. I've tried 2diff repair discs, both do not work. 'F8' does not do anything for me, not able to get to 'safe mode'. Computer is only 2yrs old.

Feb 13, 2011So I was using a program called TuneUp Utilities, and I used this function called the Disk Doctor to check for errors in my computer.While it was checking for errors, my computer shut down automatically and when I started it up again a black screen appears giving me the option to either load Startup Repair or Start Windows Normally. When I start Windows Normally, everything goes fine until I see the cursor. Nothing happens and then the computer restarts on it's own. I've even tried disabling restart on system failure but when I did that the computer just stayed at a dark screen until I restarted it.When I load Startup Repair, it searches for problems for like 5 minutes and then says it can't be automatically fixed. It says to remove all USB cables and everything (which I did but had no effect) and lets me have advanced recovery options.When I load advanced recovery options, all that appears is Startup Repair again.When I press F8 and do a Safe Mode, it starts up normally but once I see the mouse cursor the computer restarts.

I rebooted normally and the screen went to "configuring updates" and stuck at 67% for about an hour. I got frustrated with it and rebooted to safe mode to see if I could do a system restore and when I did it said there was no restore point back up! So I rebooted normally and now it is still just sitting on the "Preparing to Configure Windows" screen with the circle spinning. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate on a Dell Dimension 2400.

I was told by a professional that my registry was likely corrupted and that my best bet would be to re-install Windows entirely. I was hoping it wouldn't come to that, but was prepared nonetheless.So I inserted the installation disk, and wouldn't you know it, the installer wouldn't recognize my hard drive (BIOS recognizes it though). Searching for reasons why this was happening only turned up people saying to make sure it was recognized by BIOS, which I considered a no brainier. When it still didn't work for people in certain threads, they were told to try wiping their hard drives. I've done it. Windows still doesn't want to notice my hard drive.After that, I decided to try and install Windows to an external hard drive. I know this isn't how Windows was designed, and I knew it wasn't how Windows was meant to be used, but I was (to my knowledge) out of other options (Also, the external hard drive has 1 TB of space on it, so I wasn't concerned about speed loss). So, I searched for ways to do that, and I came across PWboot. The first half of the installation worked, the second half did not. I began getting an error that read (bootmgr is missing press ctrlalt+delete to reboot.) Which I did. But that didn't fix anything. So I tried the entire process again, and it didn't work.The "Repair your computer" feature in the windows install disk turned up nothing as well. I can't "Factory Reset" because it can't detect any installation of windows, the startup repair function can't "repair this computer automatically", and none of the other options will even open (with the exception of the command prompt, but most of the commands aren't valid for some reason.)

Sep 15, 2011My computer was installing the latest updates for windows 7 professional 64 bit and the battery died during the shut down process, and now when I start the computer it will allow me to log in but when it hits the desktop it freezes up completely. I have tried using the system restore but somehow my restore points cant be found anywhere and when I tried using the system repair option on the installation cd it says it cant because the problem is unfixable. The error it says it has is in the boot sector and it says the error code is 0x45d, but when I ran it a second time it didn't say that. I really don't want to deal with pulling off all of my personal files and then installing a fresh copy of windows because that would be too much of a hassle, but if i have to i will.

Aug 11, 2011The other night I hit the reset button at the wrong time and ever since then I'm only able to boot W7 in safe mode. I've tried all of the restore points and repair options but nothing works.
I ran chkdsk from safe mode command prompt and corrupt files were found but I can't run chkdsk /F because the partition is in use. When asked if I'd like to schedule one on next start up I say yes but the restart doesn't get far enough to initialize one. It just hands at "Loading Windows" just after the keyboard lights blink.
I've tried to do an upgrade install but you can't do that while booting from the cd or while in safe mode either.
Restarting After Safe Boot Windows 7?
Jan 23, 2012i need to enter safe mode, but i can't. after choosing it computer restarts. this is random time since choosing. sometimes just after still having black screen, sometimes after splash loaded, sometimes during entering the password. when it lets me to enter the passoword, it finds out that the password is not correct, when i am 100% sure this is correct.
