I have a win 7 OEM disk for 32/64 bit and have installed the 32 bit to check it out. As I have not activated the 32 bit am I ok to replace the 32 bit with the 64 bit? Prior to activation can I install the 32/64 on other PC's until I decide which one to activate the copy on?
View 4 RepliesI recently had to reformat my hard drive. Before doing so, I exported all of the registry mail rules and saved them on a flashdrive. Now, after reinstalling Windows and WLM, I am trying to figure out how to get the rules imported/reinstated without having to recreate them all again.
I merged them; i.e. clicked on the registry files I exported and saved prior to the reformat, and they are now in the registry themselves, but what else am I supposed to be doing because when I open WLM, there are no rules.
i would like some info or pointers on what i can do to get this laptop working, i have rebooted it in safe mode and it attempts to start up, it get to the point where the windows 7 blue log on screen shows up but does not have the login or user account part but the theme shows up

I got to the third episode - [URL] and noticed that at about 12:30 into the video, he mentions creating a maximum size partition on the drive before installing windows. What purpose does this serve? Does it merely allocate the full size of the drive strictly to windows, so nothing else can use it?

Once upon a time I set up a Windows PW so I could have a separate acct for guests. Then I spent time couch surfing and had my PC in a box. When I started using it again, I found I couldn't remember the PW anymore, and after a week of trying to recall it, was forced to do a Factory Reset. I lost ALL of my files, installed software other than what came with the system, and of course - because the guest acct had no Admin privs, I couldn't make a back-up before the factory reset... Is there any way to revert the process to a time say... Before I instituted the Windows PW? So not just roll it back prior to my Factory Reset, but ALSO to a further time in the past (reset 1/21/12, but need to revert to 10/01/11)..??

View 5 Replies View RelatedI used to have an external hard drive enclosure, and I stored large video files onto its 1 TB capacity. I built a new machine, sold the enclosure and used the same 1 TB hard drive with the UNbacked up files still therein. Obviously I am new to this otherwise I would not have done this. I realized my mistake when I went to install Windows 7 and it said to back up your files.
I read further and discovered the reason was "They will be deleted". I really don't want to loose these files. Is there any way to install the OS without deleting the files. Can I install another OS like Linux, then partition the hard drive, delete linux then install windows 7 onto a partition? WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS! OTHER THAN BUYING ANOTHER HDD ENCLOSURE!

I have a Lenovo B560 with Windows 7 x64. Sequence of events: Played music from a WD external HD with WMP. Music stopped playing and a terrible constant sound is coming out of the speakers (which began a year ago and happens sporadically), no other programs running besides WMP.2. View 9 Replies View RelatedI back up my files and system image weekly. I move the recorded TV shows (broadcast TV, nothing illegal) before that from my hard drive onto an external drive. Another drive in the same cabinet does the backup. It saves time and I won't want those files after a disc failure anyway.It would be cool to be able to program the computer to move those files (but not subfolders) over at, say 11.05 pm in preparation for the midnight backup. It would be easier to put the recorded TV in a subfolder though I suppose... then no code would have to be written to ignore subfolders, right?
View 6 Replies View RelatedDid a clean install upgrade from XP and installed office 2003. I used a utility called backrex to save and reinstall my office settings. Everything works fine except my message rules do not work. I get an error message similar to unable to move from inbox. I deleted all of my rules and was only able to recreate the ones going through the specified account to a folder.
All other rules attempted produced the rule but the underlined portion that you click and fill out were not underlined so it is impossible to do the rules other than through the specified account.
After finishing each rule I attempted to run the rule in the inbox to sort the emails and that failed and I received the error message unable to move from inbox. I have 47 email accounts for my businesses and for my sanity must use rules. Has anyone else encountered this problem and does anyone know of a solution?

My system passes all tests except that I have to uninstall the HP ProtectTools Security Manager 2.00E4 security programme. Since i dont have the recovery disc so i downloaded the one from torrent but of no use as it failed to read from the USB.
I installed Win 7 Ultimate onto my brothers Win 7 Home Edn laptop. I didn't realise at first and he has done quite a bit of work on it since the installation, on iTunes and the like. I only noticed the error when trying to activate windows and, of course, as the laptop is Home Edn, and I used an Ultimate disc it didn't take the key on the laptop. So I have now installed Home edition and have the Windows.old folder present. I basically need to put all the programs and file/folders etc into the new OS.

I have a Vista 32 PC using "Windows Mail" and want to transfer email folders (lots) and messages to Windows 7 using Windows Live Mail 2011.Windows Mail was a replacement for Outlook express on Vista.Windows Live Mail 2011 is a replacement for Windows Mail on Windows 7.I tried a couple of things.
1) Basic Export and ImportI exported relavent files: Account info, Contacts and all the messages to a folder (in Windows Mail format) on old computer and used the old "Addias" transfer - copied folder to stick and RAN it over to the new computer.
- Imported (using the Windows Mail format) the Account info successfully,
- imported the Contact info successfully.
- Import Messages - appeared at first to be successful
Issue: Message folders appear to be renamed and some folder names have been truncated, not all folders appear to be there. (Looks like "long Name folders greater that 8 characters get truncated)
2) Tried the "Easy transfer mechanism (Vista and Win7 transfer utility) - but couldn't get the new computer to see the Vista even though I could see them on the network. I thought that this would transfer the folder names correctly.I'm about to try a time consuming effort of coping folder by folder (export/Import)What I am more concerned about is that the individaul messages may have the same issue Ie not all coming accross and subject names being lost. Looking for alternative or third party transfer solutions?
I just bought myself some new parts for a new computer I built. After buying the parts and assembling it I tried to install windows 7, keeping in mind that this computer has no previous os installed in it, completely blank. I somehow managed to get to safe mode and install till the part where it says expanding windows files completing that step fully and rebooting to continue the installation, I have no idea why but after when it restarts, it freezes at the "starting windows" screen with the four orb animation. It should just go to the next screen with the blue wallpaper asking me for the language I would like and what not. But it just gets stuck there and doesn't move on, I tried

removing as much devices I had plugged into the motherboard
removing everything but the mouse and key board
removing the graphics card
removing one of the two sticks of ram

I have tried everything I know of and I don't think I need to update my bios because no one else has encountered this problem. Swell I am not very good with computers I am very new to this so...I also heard about updating drivers , but don't u need to actually be able to login to your computer to download and install them? I bought a new computer that came with a Win 7 HP license, however I already have a copy of Win 7 Ultimate on another smaller HDD that dual boots with XP.I have copied the Win 7 HP partition to the smaller HDD that has dual boot Win 7 Ultimate / XP using EASUS Partition Manager. Then I disk copied the smaller HDD to the new larger HDD thus wiping the original contents of the HDD.So far so good, the larger HDD now has C: Windows 7 Ultimate; D: XP Pro; E: Windows 7 HP. Of course the boot manager only has entries for the C: and D: partition.I think I can use bcdedit to add another entry but I am a little confused about how to do this, I've seen examples for Win 7 and XP or Vista but not for 2 copies of Win 7. Can anyone tell me what bcdedit commands I need to run? For instance I could run "bcdedit /create {} /d "Win 7 HP" but I don't know what to put inside of the {}, I think I need a new UUID but I don't know if I should be running "bcdedit /createstore" first or something else.
View 1 Replies View RelatedYesterday i wanted to change my OS to windows 7 64bits (I had windows 7 32bits before and worked just fine). The installation goes well but when windows install tries to reboot to complete the installation it hangs on "windows start" and reboot again and again. I tried several solutions such as
- Install using a different cd (3 different cds and same problem)
- Install from USB flash (not even working)
- Fix boot system (from command prompt using windows repair cd)
- Re-install windows 32 bits (same problem)
- boot in Safe mode (same problem it reboots again and again)
- Windows system repair (from cd)
PS:I have a Dell inspiron M 560 (Core 2 Quad, 4Go in RAM).
