Reinstall Windows 7 Old (windows 7) After Installing Windows 7 For 2nd Time?
Nov 26, 2011
the stellar customer service at Dell I have had to recently reinstall windows 7. I was running windows 7 prior to this installation and therefore those files have been moved to windows old. How do I reinstall this file? I'm assuming the process is the same as for other versions but being as I'm not that technically savvy I don't know how to change the command scripts to suit my situation.

This morning I had serious freezing issues with Windows 7. Just minutes after booting, it would freeze permanently. My mouse wouldn't even move on the screen, completely frozen.Manually shut down. Then it would sometimes freeze at the "Asus" screen and sometimes the computer would turn on but there wouldn't be any output to the monitor. I managed to boot and enter in Safe Mode. That didn't freeze. So I tried reinstalling Windows 7, selected Custom Installation, etc. Unpacked the files alright, went about 17% through the second step but had to restart to continue.Shortly after restarting, at about 36%, it froze again. Tried it again, froze in nearly the same spot, 37%. Started again and it tried to recover my old installation, gave me the blue screen of death "Windows stopped to prevent damage. Now I'm back in the cycle where it either starts with no video output or starts and freezes in Windows.

I'm rebuilding my desktop PC with a fresh installation of Windows 7 x64.Upon first boot after installation, 3 updates automatically installed. After a reboot, I was informed that over 100 additional recommended updates (and quite a few optional updates) were ready to be installed.I chose to install all of the recommended and optional updates (except for the 39 international updates).During the Windows Update installation process, a Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center installation window appeared. When the progress bar got to about 75%, however, the following error dialog appeared underneath: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime LibraryThis application has requested the Runtime to terminate in an unusual way Presumably, the installation of the Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center (and perhaps other items) failed to install; upon pressing the OK button, I was informed that 51 updates succeeded and 75 failed. Codes 800706BE 800706BA were mentioned.Upon reboot, another batch of updates (75?) installed; then the PC rebooted twice. At this point, Windows 7 appears to be completely installed and up to date. There are no new items in Windows Updates. However, the Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center is nowhere to be found; I was able to download the installer and successfully install the product.

Windows 7 Ultimate x64 Intel 510 SSD I am having a problem where Windows 7 re-installations keep eating up large amounts of space on the drive.
The first time I had to re-install the OS I did a "clean re-install" and found I was using 6 more GB than before. I shrugged it off as temporary files and I'm not sure if the space ever returned.
The second time (today) I did a "repair install" and found I was using 8 more GB after than I was before. I've used CCleaner but it's only finding a few hundred MB of data to delete.
My "Windows" directory is 16.5GB
There is a folder called "System Volume Information" with files all created today that is 7.9GB I'm going to guess this is where that space has gone?

I have a Dell 8400 and a few questions about upgrading to Win 7 64 bit. (I am a complete NoOb when it comes to installing an OS).
First my specs are...
CPU Type
Intel Pentium 4 HT 630, 3000 MHz (15 x 200)
Instruction Setx86, x86-64, MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3
L1 Trace Cache12K Instructions
[Code]....
I will have 2GB of this RAM Thursday with another 2GB of the same RAM the following week or the week after that. Corsair Dominator DDR2 Ram Memory PC-6400 800 MHZ [URL] After the RAM I will be getting a new Graphics Card. Also I have a spare 650 watt PSU if needed.
I ran the Window upgrade advisor and the only things it flagged was (of course) that I only had 512MB of RAM and outlook express. It did say custom installation required, whatever that means.
1. My first question to everyone is, can my Dell even run Windows 7 64-bit?
I googled around and it seems possible.
2. My second question is can I install it with the 512MB of RAM I have now?
3. My last question is can I install this along side XP on my HD?
4. My third question is does anyone know of a good very detailed step by step Noob guide for installing it next to XP?
I have never installed an OS before and if it does not work I am screwed!
I do know it is better to do a fresh install and no I cannot by another HD right now, I know they are cheap but I will be scraping together all I have just for the RAM and Graphics card.
My problem is that, I really only have the time to do this over the long weekend and cannot wait for the RAM to get here.
The guy on e-bay is a clown and did not ship it when he was supposed to and it will not be here in time.
I just need it up and running and can add the RAM as it comes but I am under a serious time constraint and if I don't get this done now over the Memorial day weekend it will be a long time before I have enough time to do this.

I have a xFI sound-card and every time I start my PC I have to reinstall the card's drivers. I have 2 pci slots on my board and an ATI pci express Radion. When I put the card in the other slot right next to the graphics card it works no problem what so ever accept it is blocking the graphics card fan and the GPU heat doubles so this is not acceptable.I have tried a audigy sound card in the slot and it works OK.

I have a HP laptop with a Vista Home Premium 64 bit on it now that came with no recovery disc from HP like on all DV2 laptops from HP.
So question is if I order the upgrade W 7 Home Premium preorder and install it on my laptop it should be no problem the first time even with out recovery disc since Vista will be on the harddrive. But if I do a second clean format reinstall say a year later (after the first upgrade install) to freshen up my laptop, will there be a problem installing Windows 7 the second time since I have no recovery disc of Vista to put in the DVD as proof?

I tried to install windows 7 home premium SP1 (kb976932) 5 times already. Each time, after the installation was finished, I was asked to restart the computer. After I've restarted, windows started running and then the screen just went black and the computer stopped responding. I had to go to the last restoration point, which cancelled the installation. What to do?

I have a HT Omega Claro sound card that I've been having problems with. One issue that I have is after I uninstall the driver and try to reinstall it. It takes several attempts to install successfully.
Does this mean that the sound card is fualty? I'm not sure exactly how a driver works but i'm thinking it would try to comunicate with the hardware it's intended for and if there is a problem with the hardware that might cause the driver to have a dificult time installing.

I had 2 partitions on my HDD, one for windows 7 and one for backup. I wanted to reinstall windows but keep the backup partition so i put in my install dvd and booted up from it. At the manage partitions point i think i saw 5 partitions:
The 100mb for windows files
The windows Partition
The Backup Partition
A 1megabyte partition
And a zero megabyte partition.
I deleted all the partitions except the backup. I made a new one for windows. I procceed with the installation and everything went good, until when the installer rebooted the system. And thats where's my problem. The bios detects the HDD and stops there. It happend with me before with my 500gb hdd and thats why i bought this 1tb one but now i dont want to spend money again for that if i dont have to. Maybe i deleted a partition that was for the hdd to work propely? And if so is there anyway to reset that?

While her son was using the computer, he deleted various productivity programs (Word, etc.), because he's using it only for gaming. My cousin was trying to get those programs back, and oops!, put in the wrong DVD...the Alienware Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit reinstall disc. For whatever reason, she allowed the reinstall to go through, and now she has a new, blank desktop, and it's apparently missing video drivers (VGA display), networking drivers (no wireless networking) and who knows what else. Her old stuff is still on the computer in the Windows.old folder.I imagine her son's original setup is gone, but she'd at very least like to get back to regular video display (no drivers), working WiFi, and whatever programs she had before her son zapped them. (There is an Alienware "Resource Disc", would the factory programs be there?)She'd also like her stuff in Windows.old back in a place she can use.
We saw articles about restoring Windows.old, but the DVD drive isn't autobooting. We manually booted the DVD and started the process, but the "Repair" option is missing. We're worried another reinstall A) will take us back to where we were and B) if it'd wipe out Windows.old.

I just spent the last half day fixing a laptop, had to buy a new hard drive and reinstall the OS from recovery discs. (Win 7 64 bit, on Satellite Toshiba) I just noticed that I did not install it with a partition for the OS, Is this going to be a big problem at some point? I had checked off "Factory Settings" when installing, I just assumed that it would have installed with a partition. Before I go any further with this laptop I would like to have some input please. I just spent the last 3 hours installing updates and finally SP1.

My computer was blue screening, freezing, locking up, etc so I took it to a repair shop and to make sure all the hardware was ok. All the tests passed but the problems were still continuing. They eventually decided to reinstall my OS which is Windows 7 and everything's been working fine except my computer is a lot slower and frequently feels laggy where they mouse would freeze up for a few seconds or move slowly across the screen. I have already tried cleaning out my registry with CCleaner and tried defragmenting but to no avail. I was wondering if there is another way to solve my computer lag problem.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and recently had a system crash. I got a blue screen stating ''hard error'' and my system was promptly restarted. Startup repair tried to do his things but it failed(and did an endless loop in trying to do so). I couldn't boot in safe mode, I couldn't do anything. I resorted to reinstalling Windows 7 using my CD. I took the custom installation rather than the upgrade because the upgrade would essentially lead to the endless startup repair loot. Now, after everything was done, it's said my old Windows is still on the computer under the file name ''Windows old'', I checked and it is indeed there. Wouldn't there be a way to reinstall Windows old? I really don't want to be forced to reinstall all my drivers and updates.

We purchased 2 new computers for work and they both contain Windows 64 bit. Our accounting program is not compatible with 64 bit. I have found a work-around but it isn't very stable (using Windows XP virtual mode).
So, my plan was to reinstall Windows 32 bit on the machine. The machine is an HP 505B Microtower. I have an official version of 32 bit Windows 7 Professional. I understand that the one on the HP is OEM, but I will cross that bridge when I come to it with the serial number (I did back up the activation certificates using the ABR Utility).
I downloaded the ISO from the Microsoft store, so it's an official Windows version. I created a bootable USB drive using DISKPART to clean and format the drive and using the bootsect.exe file from the mounted ISO to make it bootable. I then copy the entire contents of the mounted ISO to the flash drive. I have done this to install Windows 7 before and it has worked flawlessly.
Then when I boot from the flash drive on the HP, it gives me the "Install" screen and then it asks for CD/DVD drivers. I am assuming it really means the SATA drivers for the HD, because the DVD drive isn't even in use at this point. So, I go to the HP site and download the drivers for the storage devices. When I browse to that directory on the CD, Windows Install sees the driver and tries to install it, but still says that it cannot find any appropriate drivers.
I've read about possible reasons this error occurs. Some people have had bad burns from their ISO. Since mine is on a flash drive, it's not the burn. I have re-copied the files. I even re-downloaded the ISO and did the process all fresh just in case some random file was corrupted, still with the same error.
I can't seem to figure out why it won't let me get past the drivers point. I've never had to load drivers when installing Windows 7. All my other installs have gone flawelessly, even on machines that have come with OEM version of Windows.

I've got fundamental problems with my music software (Sonar) that other users and the company can't replicate. After days wasted trying for solutions I've decided the only route is completely clean reinstall of Windows 7.I just tried a custom clean install from the disk, but now on switch on I'm given a choice between 'windows 7' and 'windows 7', the former taking me to a bare bones version (what I need really) and the second to my old fullblown setup that I want to lose. I've got my data on other drives so I'm happy to zap all this. How do I do I good old fashioned format and then a reinstall? I'm not computer savvy so I know I need to proceed carefully as the OS disk I think is part of a real hard drive.

My computer has a ton of viruses and I want to do a clean reinstall of windows 7. My computer originally came with Vista but a year later I upgraded to 7 Home Premium. I upgraded by buying a product key (no disc) from the Microsoft website and downloading some file/application to install 7. I cannot find this file nor can I find anywhere on the Microsoft website which would allow me to download it again.
