View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm reinstalling Windows 7 onto my 32GB OCZ SSD boot drive. In addition to that drive, I have a 1TB media drive and a 1TB drive that holds my user files as well as all my programs. I can't seem to figure out how to ensure that all the short cuts for the programs and data for the user file will run smoothly on the fresh install. Is there anything I should do before nuking the SSD and anything additional that I should do after the install or just treat it like a fresh SSD/HDD install but use the already existing user data? tl/dr: Reinstall windows on boot drive (SSD) and retain users folder/program files on separate HDD? edit: creating a clone image and using that won't work here, the actual OS files are bad

It's recently started cutting out (completely turns off as though the battery has been pulled) when in use, but now it's got so bad i can't even get passed the windows startup, and when it does it's near 2mins before it cuts out again. I'm trying to run a bios update but it won't stay on long enough for me to get anywhere with it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I boot my PC from cold or when it reboots my Ethernet connection isn't enabled and in order to get access to the internet I have to disable it (so it's grayed out) and re-enable it. I've tried Unchecking the box 'Allow this computer to turn this device off to save power' but that didn't fix the problem.
I have Foxconn Blackops X48 board with 2 Broadcom Ethernet ports. I've tried all manner of different drivers in to try and get this work (since I have two ports I've tried August drivers on one and June drivers on the other) but this didn't solve the problem.
I'm running Windows 7 64bit. Not sure exactly what sound card I have, just says RealTek High Definition Audio on my Sound Devices list beside my headset. This headset is only about a year old, doesn't seem to have a model number, it's just a USB device with a mic attached. It only started doing this today. I plug it in, sound plays fine for anywhere from 30 mins to a couple hours then the sound completely cuts out and I have to replug it back in, it plays fine again till it decides to cut out again.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI seem to be having crashes on my laptop as of recent, but the patterns they follow are very strange. It's almost like i'm getting a BSOD while it being used, but instead the screen just go black and all power cuts. It then reboots and starts up as usual. As far as I can tell there is no conflicting software causing this, and it happens without any pattern. Since there is no Blue Screen, I cannot give a dump file. However, on the even viewer, I see an event labeled under the critical category. Now this seems like the CPU or other internal component is overheating, But when i look at HWMonitor Pro, the CPU stays under a steady 84C under load and 60C idle. This happens in a range of occasions such as rendering videos with Handbrake to simply browsing the web. I will say this, I recently swapped out my RAM cards because the OEM one's were causing BSOD's about a month ago. If you'd like more specific information on the laptop, visit my old thread.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI recently put a 256GB WD SSD in my machine to compliment a smaller, but faster Patriot 6Gb SSD for HD intensive applications.
Unfortunately, since I installed this drive, whenever Windows Backup runs (once a week) computer will freeze for a few seconds (5-7 at most) every 1 or 2 minutes and then keep working normally Nothing else causes these freezes. I can copy large and small files to/from the SSD without any problems. Windows and apps loads very quickly and WD software confirms the drive is OK.
Is there a specific tweak that I need to do for the WD SSD? I thought they used the most conservative controller for this drive that should make this SSD appear as a regular HD to the OS.
I really hate interrupting the backup, but the computer becomes completely unusable while it runs so I'd really like to solve this ASAP.
Just in case model numbers help: The SSD is Western Digital SiliconEdge Blue SSC-D0256SC-2100 Motherboard is Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R

View 2 Replies View RelatedIt started yesterday: in an online game, after a couple of games I suddenly got some short freezes (half a sec, never longer) in which the sound goes like a machine gun, if you understand me. This was the first instance and since then it occasionally happens in that game. Nothing weird with that, just lag. That's what I thought. But today I started an offline-only game that has always worked perfectly (in fact, it's an old game, so very low system specs), and I got the same issue!
So, it seems I have a freeze issue suddenly, only appearing in games (haven't experienced freezes anywhere else). Note that it isn't exactly a freeze. Say I move my mouse and the freeze issue happens (still moving my mouse, but the arrow doesn't move), after the freeze my mouse arrow teleports to the spot it would've been in if the game hadn't frozen for that instant. In an actual freeze it wouldn't record where I'd move my mouse, would it?

While I was writing this, I noticed the PC showed a problem. I let it do its thing, and it reports a video hardware error. I DO NOT know if this is related to the problem, but regardless, I've attached the 3 files (in a zip) Windows showed me, in case it's relevant.
I have this problem where my screen will turn black or turn off after a short while of playing games. I installed Windows 7 recently and then installed Borderlands and COD4. Both games run fine at lowest settings but after about 15-20 minutes of playing, my screen would just turn off and I'd have to switch the laptop off using the power button to reboot.
I'm not sure if this is a Windows 7 problem, graphic card issue, or heat related issue since my notebook fan is not working and i'm using a notebook cooler.
Yesterday, there was a short power outage which caused my computer to force shut down. When I turned it on, the screen resolution was off, so I managed to fix it by hardware (the auto button on my monitor) since software-based fixing didn't work (which has managed to solve this problem in the past, at least I think it was the same problem). Anyway, after I did this, the icons were strange; bigger than usual, not e.g. 128x128 but rather 140x128 (that isn't the exact size but they were higher than they were wide). This is quite annoying. The circular icons have become ovals and the square icons have become rectangular. By the way, the same thing has, I think, happened to the taskbar as well. It's harder to tell with things other than icons, but it's visible. So basically, everything is slightly higher than wider than it should be, not only the icons.
View 3 Replies View RelatedOften when I open a web page in any of my browsers, or a document in e.g. MS Word or Excel, or any file in its associated program, or sometimes even simply a new Explorer window, the mouse becomes sluggish for a few seconds, and in many cases I can hear the hard drive starting up for a second or two as well.I get the impression that the sluggish mouse problem occurs when Windows has to load something or render something new or check something "in the background" while I wait. But wait... it gets weirder: whenever my mouse becomes sluggish like that, the mouse usually overlaps the program that is opening a file, and if I can get my mouse away from that program, the mouse suddenly gets more responsive. This sluggishness also occurs immediately after I've created a new file or folder, or after I've renamed a file or folder.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been using windows 7 for about a week on my Fujitsu A-6110 laptop.
Windows 7 (7057 32bit)
Fujitsu A-6110
Core-2-du0 1.5 GHZ
2.5 GB Ram
When I had windows vista home installed I could run this laptop on "power-saver" mode for 3+ hours, when I bought it a year ago maybe 4 hrs on power-saver mode. At this setting I have the laptop on the lowest brightness level.
Now with Windows 7 installed my battery lasts about 1.5 hrs on powersaver mode with the brightness turned all the way down. Its been 45 minutes now and it is at 52%.
Is there some kind of Fujitsu battery power software I need to correct this ?
It seems i have narrowed down my issue that I have been dealing with for it seems like months now. Well essentially my system will reboot anytime it sits for an extended period of time (about 15 to 20 Minutes). My computer will go into standby mode. I do have it set for my computer to never sleep but only my screens. I have followed the BSOD instructions and do and those to attach to this post. Here is the additional information regarding this problem... Is Windows 7 . . . - x86 (32-bit) or x64 ? - x64 - the original installed OS on the system? Yes - an OEM or full retail version?Full retail version - What is the age of system (hardware)? Eh, varies video cards about a year old, memory and hardrives are about the same length of time. Chip is fairly new within a few months. - What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?) OS was freshly reinstalled on 11/17/2011. All drivers for all pieces of hardware in my machine have had the newest drivers updated, including my video cards. I have also done the BIOS update for both of my video cards available from Palit. Oddly enough i can play Starcraft II for hours and no issue with rebooting... only when it sits for an extended period of time as mentioned earlier.

1. insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2. Choose your language settings, and click "Next."
3. Click "Repair your Computer".

Since i dont have the recovery disc so i downloaded the one from torrent but of no use as it failed to read from the USB.
I installed Win 7 Ultimate onto my brothers Win 7 Home Edn laptop. I didn't realise at first and he has done quite a bit of work on it since the installation, on iTunes and the like. I only noticed the error when trying to activate windows and, of course, as the laptop is Home Edn, and I used an Ultimate disc it didn't take the key on the laptop. So I have now installed Home edition and have the Windows.old folder present. I basically need to put all the programs and file/folders etc into the new OS.
