I have windows 7 64 bit, OEM, original. System is only 9 months old. Problems only started recently, has made playing any game for longer than 45 minutes virtually impossible. Drivers are up to date as of this post.
View 6 RepliesMy girlfriends laptop (my old laptop) is an HP Pavilion dv3-2310ea. It's recently started cutting out (completely turns off as though the battery has been pulled) when in use, but now it's got so bad i can't even get passed the windows startup, and when it does it's near 2mins before it cuts out again. I'm trying to run a bios update but it won't stay on long enough for me to get anywhere with it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I boot my PC from cold or when it reboots my Ethernet connection isn't enabled and in order to get access to the internet I have to disable it (so it's grayed out) and re-enable it. I've tried Unchecking the box 'Allow this computer to turn this device off to save power' but that didn't fix the problem.
I have Foxconn Blackops X48 board with 2 Broadcom Ethernet ports. I've tried all manner of different drivers in to try and get this work (since I have two ports I've tried August drivers on one and June drivers on the other) but this didn't solve the problem.

Not sure exactly what sound card I have, just says RealTek High Definition Audio on my Sound Devices list beside my headset.This headset is only about a year old, doesn't seem to have a model number, it's just a USB device with a mic attached.It only started doing this today. I plug it in, sound plays fine for anywhere from 30 mins to a couple hours then the sound completely cuts out and I have to replug it back in, it plays fine again till it decides to cut out again.

This seemed to start after installing Google Chrome browser and McAfee anti-virus, both of which have automatic update features. I uninstalled the former and disabled the automatic update of the latter but to no avail.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI seem to be having crashes on my laptop as of recent, but the patterns they follow are very strange. It's almost like i'm getting a BSOD while it being used, but instead the screen just go black and all power cuts. It then reboots and starts up as usual. As far as I can tell there is no conflicting software causing this, and it happens without any pattern. Since there is no Blue Screen, I cannot give a dump file. However, on the even viewer, I see an event labeled under the critical category. Now this seems like the CPU or other internal component is overheating, But when i look at HWMonitor Pro, the CPU stays under a steady 84C under load and 60C idle. This happens in a range of occasions such as rendering videos with Handbrake to simply browsing the web. I will say this, I recently swapped out my RAM cards because the OEM one's were causing BSOD's about a month ago. If you'd like more specific information on the laptop, visit my old thread.

I have an ASUS U52F series laptop with an intel i5 and 2x2g ddr3 ram.A few months ago (nothing big happened) my laptop started to freeze upon resumes.It takes 4-6 hard resets (holding down power) to get it to finally start working.It then works fine until its goes into sleep mode, or gets closed, then the process begins.It has frozen anywhere between right after password is entered to right after programs start to autoload in windows.The only troubleshooting ive done is swap the slots the RAM is in but it hasn't fixed the problem.A friend told me it could be the RAM, but I don't want to spend the money on it if that isn't the problem.

I press the power button (which is configured to Hibernate) or press Hibernate in the shutdown menu, it starts to hibernate like usual, but then as soon as it goes to the Windows 7 screen saying something like "Hibernating...", it goes straight back to working properly, and not hibernating. I have made sure my networking devices are allowed to turn off, and that option for my mouse and trackpad is greyed out.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI returned from the cottage after being absent for a week and turned on my computer and now it is freezing momentarily. If I am downloading the speeds go down, it does not look like a network problem because the laptop we run off a router runs fine on the internet. I do not get any BSOD's. It freezes for a few minutes or 30 or seconds and then resumes working properly. Any idea what could be causing this. I scanned using malwarebytes but to no avail.I notice my memory usage is almost full meaning I have 2 gigs of ram, half of it is cached and half of it is being used leaving only a few megabytes, that may be the norm as I am checking right now while the computer is running fine

View 2 Replies View RelatedI played the game for 100 + hours without problem, then this problem appears. Skyrim freezes then resumes then freezes every 5 seconds after playing for a few minutes. I tried re-installing the game, lowering the graphics to low, removing all mods. This is also not a savegame issue, it happens even in a new game. Also tried running in windowed mode, did not fix the issue. I also tried using game booster(to see if a background is causing this). I also tried running the game in my Windows XP partition, got the same problem. I do have the latest drivers and patch. One thing I have noticed is my CPU load goes from around 90% to 30% during the freezing.

In addition to that drive, I have a 1TB media drive and a 1TB drive that holds my user files as well as all my programs. I can't seem to figure out how to ensure that all the short cuts for the programs and data for the user file will run smoothly on the fresh install. Is there anything I should do before nuking the SSD and anything additional that I should do after the install or just treat it like a fresh SSD/HDD install but use the already existing user data? tl/dr: Reinstall windows on boot drive (SSD) and retain users folder/program files on separate HDD? edit: creating a clone image and using that won't work here, the actual OS files are bad
View 3 Replies View RelatedYesterday night my laptop installed an update and I remember it prompting me to restart my computer. Instead I chose the option to postpone the update. I erred when I forgot to restart my computer before going to sleep and instead had put it into sleep mode. Upon resuming windows, my screen was black and there was an error (which I failed to note but it was something about "logging in").
I tried force-powering off my laptop and upon reaching the "Windows Starting", I notice that the logo freezes. The computer appears unresponsive but after a couple of minutes, I am taken to my account log-in screen.
I read somewhere that this might be the result of a corrupt C file. Will a system restore fix the problem? (On the system restore there is a timestamp for "Windows Update" of type "Critical" that was installed around the time I postponed the restart). Is there a way I can scan my computer for corrupted files?
Windows 7 home premium, 64-bit HP Envy 3D laptop with 8GB memory, no custom hardware
I have configured a backup job which wakes up the laptop at midnight, takes a backup and puts laptop into standby again. All this happens with the laptop lid closed. The power scheme is configured to put laptop into standby when lid is closed.
The resume from standby, backup and suspend after backup is controlled by Windows Home Server (2003) console which is installed on the laptop. I had purchased the HP laptop in October of last year and this job used to work just fine. Sometime in March of this year, the backup stopped working.
After checking the logs and physically observing the laptop at midnight, I found that the laptop resumes from standby at the scheduled time but immediately goes into standby if the lid is closed. The backup fails. Windows event logs indicate that laptop lid close action is putting system into standby.
If the lid is open, then the laptop resumes from standby, stays awake, backup proceeds and laptop goes into standby again.
Here are my problems:
a) Why did the backup work for several months and then stopped working?
b) I have other laptops in the house running Windows 7 home premium on variety of hardware (all HP) and they do not have any issue. Even with the lid closed, they resume from standby, do a backup and go into standby again. The power scheme on all these laptops is set to put laptop into standby when lid is closed. I have verified from physically observing the laptops during backup time.
I have checked all the usual suspects like BIOS updates, driver updates, run sfc, completely deleted the Windows Home Server console from laptop and re-installed after deleting all past backups. Is there some setting that I have overlooked?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have AVS Video Converter and what I'm trying to do is download 1920x1080 (I don't want 720p) video clips, converting them from mp4 to wmv and setting them as my desktop background. I use this converter because it is the first converter I tried that gives me lossless conversion to wmv. My screen resolution is 1280x800.I use the 1920x1080 video and leave all the settings except for aspect ratio which I set to 16:9 and the resolution to encode the video at 1280x800.When I set it as my desktop background, the video is still 1920x1080 and if you compare the original to the desktop background, the video is "protruding" from the screen, so I can't see some areas.I've tried setting windows background to center, tile and all options but still nothing.

On reboot I have bios, I have windows logo and animation, and just as the windows should be displaying the desktop the screen goes a sort of very bright black.I can toggle the caps lock lights on and off. I have tried to boot into safe mode but it does the exact same thing.I have tried last known good configuration but it does the same thing.I have tried hooking an external monitor to the VGA out and it does the same thing.I have tried to use the function keys to toggle brightness up, switch the video from LCD to VGA, been in the bios and reset factory defaults.All which end in exactly the same results, a sort of brightly lit black screen.As far as I can tell, windows is actually booted up. I just can't see it.I can't blame the LCD panel or the inverter because I have perfect brightness in bios, and the windows boot logo looks fine.
View 9 Replies View Relatedlast weekend i update to sp1 after not really hearing any issues from people... throughout i watch Media Player Classic with SD avi videos... Today i tryed to watch an HD mkv thru LAN as usual however 5 min in i got the BSOD so after restart i tried again this time instant BSOD so after restart i tryed the SD avi i had watch 3hrs prior and it played no problem... After the sp1 update i did this weekend i did notice that memory seems to be more hogged than usual.
