Laptop Immediately Resumes From Hibernation?
Jun 4, 2011
I've recently started having the problem that my laptop immediately resumes after I press hibernate. I press the power button (which is configured to Hibernate) or press Hibernate in the shutdown menu, it starts to hibernate like usual, but then as soon as it goes to the Windows 7 screen saying something like "Hibernating...", it goes straight back to working properly, and not hibernating. I have made sure my networking devices are allowed to turn off, and that option for my mouse and trackpad is greyed out.

For a while now my desktop, running W7 Ultimate, has been resuming itself from hibernation mode for, to me at least, no apparent reason. This seemed to start after installing Google Chrome browser and McAfee anti-virus, both of which have automatic update features. I uninstalled the former and disabled the automatic update of the latter but to no avail.

i have a hp pavilion dv3 laptop, 13.3", which runs on windows 7. it has an intel core i5 and 4 gb of ram with 500 gb of memory. it's very new - i only bought it about a month ago, and up until a few hours ago it was running fine. it has been very fast and responsive, and i was careful to not download a load of junk or anything that might slow it down. i used it this morning and it was fine, but since i turned it on this afternoon it has suddenly begun running slowly. when i turn it on i can enter my password and get into my user account, and everything loads fine, but when i try to do anything it will just freeze up and refuse to respond. i can't even right-click and refresh, or click on the taskbar. i just get that little blue spinning circle to infinity.the laptop is running okay in safe mode, which i am in right now. i'm trying to rack my brains to remember what i could have done to mess it up, but nothing comes to mind. last night i downloaded aim, but that didn't seem to have changed anything this morning. when i used the laptop before it started freezing, all i did was watch a few Internet videos and then turn it off again.
when i realised it was freezing, the first thing i did was to turn it off and restart in safe mode. i went to control panel and removed the password to my user account (irrationally, i was getting paranoid about being locked out), which i hope didn't confuse the poor laptop. i then restored it to an earlier date 2 days ago, but it still froze about three minutes after turning it on, and my password was still enabled. after that i went to start > run > msconfig and disabled all the startup items, but the laptop still continued to freeze upon startup. then i unplugged the battery and just ran off the power switch, but it's still freezing! then i started to despair and tried to run a registry cleanup, but i figured it just looked like a scam or a virus so i decided otherwise. i use avast! free antivirus, and i ran a scan, but that didn't find anything.unfortunately, i live in a very hot, dusty country. recently quite a lot of dust was getting into the room where i keep my laptop. i was worried that the laptop might have been getting dust inside it. but i have another older laptop which doesn't seem to be affected at all?i did make backup discs when i first got the laptop, but i only want to use them as a very last resort.

I've got a HP Pavilion g series laptop, which has recently, when being turned on, powering up as normal by turning the light of the power button on and lighting the screen, then quickly shutting these off again, and then continuing to turn on as normal. It hasnt been doing this for very long, I have no idea whether it is a serious problem or not as I don't know anything about computers. I must add that I don't use my laptop with the battery in; I use it with the battery out as I mostly use it plug into the mains.

When I put my computer in hibernation, sometimes when I wake it, it hangs at the user select screen, or it just shows a black screen. Sometimes I can reset the computer after it has hanged, and try again resuming from hibernation, and many times it will work after a couple of tries. Other times after resetting I won't get the prompt to try again with resuming (the other option is to delete hibernation data and reboot the system) but I will get the usual screen that says that Windows was not shut down correctly (with all the options for safe mode, etc). If I cannot resume and I get the screen with safe mode and all the other crap, I finally log in I get a notice that there was a critical error, in the details I see BlueScreen and other data, but I actually never get a blue screen. In the dump folder, there are no dmp files related to the hibernation hanging.
Anyway, when it happens, I see several Event 18 WHEA-Logger in the event viewer, about 6 of them every time. What's weird though, is that I literally have NO problems with this computer other than this. The only times it hangs is when I resume it from hibernation. I can play games or run stress tests with or without overclock and the system is 100% stable. But there is some problem that prevents it from resuming from hibernation correctly, so every time I use it is basically a gamble because it has like 50% chance of working.I tried EVERY SINGLE solution I found with google related to hibernation problems, and it's still there. I even formatted and reinstalled Windows from scratch, and it's still there. I'm positive I updated every single driver for every hardware I have and nope, no solution.I know the WHEA error is related to the hardware but like I said, everything works PERFECTLY once the system starts up properly, or when it resumes from hibernation properly. I've had my HP laptop for going on two years now and it's been acting up. It's mainly in the hibernation field and it started when i turned the start up GUI off (saved me about 15 seconds in start up) and first installed Ubuntu. I've read elsewhere and it said that my drivers need updated, but Windows update AND HP support assistant said that everything's up-to-date. I want to start from hibernation again. Oh, one more thing the screen is just a white dash (_).

I've recently encountered a problem on trying to take my laptop out of Hibernate mode. The machine hibernates normally, but when attempting to resume it will display a black screen with a flashing cursor in the top right-hand corner, then get stuck there. At the moment this is more an irritation than a serious issue as manually turning the machine off and on again at the power button offers me the choice between trying again and deleting the hibernation file's data and rebooting as normal. If I choose the first option the computer will lock in the same place as before; the second option has it booting as normal.
I've tried troubleshooting the problem myself but my limited understanding of how my laptop actually functions means there's only so far I can go by myself. Is there any way I can go about fixing this or will I need to get someone to take a look at it? ETA: I just tried waking the computer from Sleep only to find that it had a similar problem there as well. No flashing cursor, but the screen just went black and the machine wouldn't respond until I turned it off and back on.

I have a Samsung Laptop and it was in hibernation mode when it was knocked off of an ottoman and fell about a foot and landed right side up on the floor. When I opened it there was nothing but a black screen with a cursor on it. So I turned it off by holding down the power button and then turned it back on the sumsung start up screen came on and then the screen was black except for a Little flashing white bar on the upper left hand side and then it just stays that way, I have also tried taking out the battery but it did not work. One time it came up with an error saying your computer can't come out of hibernation anything not saved previously will be lost and at the bottom it says enter=continue but when I hit enter nothing happens.

I was recovering my laptop to it's factory settings, and during this, I closed the lid which caused it to hibernate mid recovery. When I now lift up the lid and click the power button, it does not switch on, as though it has been drained of power (it hasn't)I have tried putting it on the AC and holding power for 30 seconds.I've tried it without the battery, with and all the possible ways; all resulting in a dead end

Earlier today, my laptop wouldn't wake up from hibernation, so i restarted it. I got it started and it said there was a windows error and suggested i boot up as normal. I did that and it was all running fine. But the sound wasn't working! The issue of sound not working has happened before so i just restarted the computer (because that has fixed the problem in the past). It started the boot up as normal and almost made it to the log in screen, but wouldn't pass the black screen before the log in. I thought that was very odd so i restarted it after waiting about ten minutes of nothing happening. It then started up with the suggestion to run the start up repair program. I highlighted that and hit enter. it started up, went to a black screen, then after about 3 or 4 minutes, loaded what looked like a blueish wallpaper. it didn't do anything after that for about 15 minutes, then it loaded the repair program. I ran that for 40 minutes but it didn't appear to do anything so i hit cancel. It then gave me the option to do a system restore, which i did. I restored my system to about 2 weeks ago, seeing as i didn't have any problems 2 weeks ago. It restarted and booted up, this time staying on the black screen for about 3 minutes, then going to the log in. It logged in perfectly fine, but there's still no sound. I tried opening the troubleshooter, but it won't open. For some reason, Google chrome works fine, and task manager does too, but some programs won't open. It's like, they try to open, and the task manager says they're running, but they won't appear on screen. Programs like, Steam client, iTunes, System recovery. Those were three different ones that i tried and didn't work. It appears to be quite random. I tried running Boost speed to see if it could diagnose a problem, but it said that it couldn't connect to the drives. I ran my antivirus software to see if it was a virus causing the problem, but it came up with the same error! I really am at a loss for what's going on! This laptop is only 5 or 6 months old. The drives shouldn't be failing already. [code]

I just had a scary experience with my Toshiba A665-S6095 laptop. I had it running this morning and closed the lid, which hibernates it. About 3pm, I opened the lid and hit the power button, whereupon it gave me the "Windows did not close properly.. ." message. What? How? All I did was close the lid.So anyway, I choose "Start Windows normally". Get blank screen with cursor blinking in upper left corner, but Windows does not boot. Disconnect power cord and removed battery. Waited 10 minutes. Put battery back in, inserted power cord. Turned on. When BIOS icon appeared, hit F2 to enter BIOS. Checked everything; all A-OK.

Yesterday I just experienced something weird from my laptop. It became a lot faster after about 4 or 5 times series of hibernation. My laptop is the old Acer Aspire 4530 with proc. AMD Turion X2, Win 7 32-bit, Nvidia GeForce 9100mG, and 3GBs of RAM.
Yesterday I never turned my laptop off during all day. I just hibernate it after 2 or 3 hours, turn it on again, then hibernate, turn on, and so on, starting in the morning until evening. This action repeated about 5 times so I did total of 5 times of hibernation, then at night when I played game in my laptop it just became alot faster. This never happened before.

I have an ASUS U52F series laptop with an intel i5 and 2x2g ddr3 ram.A few months ago (nothing big happened) my laptop started to freeze upon resumes. It takes 4-6 hard resets (holding down power) to get it to finally start working. It then works fine until its goes into sleep mode, or gets closed, then the process begins. It has frozen anywhere between right after password is entered to right after programs start to autoload in windows. The only troubleshooting ive done is swap the slots the RAM is in but it hasn't fixed the problem.A friend told me it could be the RAM, but I don't want to spend the money on it if that isn't the problem.

I returned from the cottage after being absent for a week and turned on my computer and now it is freezing momentarily. If I am downloading the speeds go down, it does not look like a network problem because the laptop we run off a router runs fine on the internet. I do not get any BSOD's. It freezes for a few minutes or 30 or seconds and then resumes working properly. Any idea what could be causing this. I scanned using malwarebytes but to no avail.I notice my memory usage is almost full meaning I have 2 gigs of ram, half of it is cached and half of it is being used leaving only a few megabytes, that may be the norm as I am checking right now while the computer is running fine

Since my fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate x64 (SP1) - whenever I install software, the windows installer will hang or not respond for long periods - then it comes back to life, installs a bit more, then freezes again - sometimes it can take up to 10-20 minutes to install a normal program!

I played the game for 100 + hours without problem, then this problem appears. Skyrim freezes then resumes then freezes every 5 seconds after playing for a few minutes. I tried re-installing the game, lowering the graphics to low, removing all mods. This is also not a savegame issue, it happens even in a new game. Also tried running in windowed mode, did not fix the issue. I also tried using game booster(to see if a background is causing this). I also tried running the game in my Windows XP partition, got the same problem. I do have the latest drivers and patch. One thing I have noticed is my CPU load goes from around 90% to 30% during the freezing.

A few days (probably about 3) ago, I installed StarStaX. I'm a photographer, and I also have Lightroom and Photoshop Cs5 installed on my computer. Early in the day, it was totally fine, but then, my mouse gave out. It's a real piece of junk that you had to plug in and unplug to get working every time you'd restart the computer, (but it was USB, so no worries). Fortunately, I have a Wacom Tablet that I could use instead. However, when shortly after I started using the tablet, as soon as I opened StarStaX it would shut down saying the program had stopped working, even though it had been fine that morning. I tried opening it back up several times but the same thing happened. So I tried the old mouse again, which still wasn't working. An error message stating that an "unknown USB device" was connected to the computer started showing up for the first time. Anyways, to get StarStaX to load, I had to shut down Photoshop (and possibly Lightroom) and even then it was still iffy. Not long after, once I was done stacking photos, Lightroom began displaying the same shutdown message, most often if I went to change the color temperature of photo (so just a slider) or if I went to edit in Photoshop. Previously, these programs had run very quickly, even with several other programs like iTunes or Photomatix running. Now even Photoshop usually has to be the only one running or it will end immediately. So, I installed CCleaner, (I have no internet on the described computer so I had to carry it over via a Flash Drive), and deleted a lot of junk. I also took off some programs I know for sure I wouldn't use. When it still wasn't working, I ran Error Check on the C Drive (I think that's how you say it), and it still will not work. After this, on the advice of another user, I downloaded a program called Advanced SystemCare but that did not work.I am unsure as to what could be causing this problem, so sorry if it would be more appropriate elsewhere. It is not connected to the internet, so I don't think it's a virus, but I am unsure. Here's the specs on my computer according to SysInfo:
Tech Support Guy System Info Utility version 1.0.0.2

I've just reinstalled my Windows 7 (purely for speed), but while my previous installation of Real Player had no problem downloading live streams for recording, I'm stuck this time around to figure out how to get past a new error msg.I go to File/Open & put in the stream name - this particular one is shown in the msg below. When I try to connect I immediately get a popup box with this msgI've tried it with 3 different versions of Real Player but get the identical msg every time,s not necessarily the Player's settings.I have a Belkin Play router & am using Microsoft SE as my antivirus program and use both Firefox & IE9 as browsers.I've no understanding of UDP/TCP & ports etc & really don't want to start meddling with them until I know that's what I really have to do, & also get specific instructions etc.
