How do you stop laptop from going into hibernation mode / sleep mode?
I run a program that takes 8 hours. I need the laptop to stay awake.
The thread title about sums it up! When I try to wake my computer from sleep mode, my monitor gets no signal/is black. The "rest" of the computer seems to wake up just fine.
The monitor was working fine with Windows Server 2008, after sleep mode, but I just recently upgraded to windows 7.
I have already tried: displayswitch /extend displayswitch /internal in a .bat file
using "Hibernate Trigger", "Power Triggers" and Windows task sheduler.
Doesn't work at all for me (I've got Windows 7 Proffesional 32-bit Service Pack 1)
I recently formatted, and since, my pc refuses to remain in Sleep/Hibernation mode. When I select the option in the start menu, my pc does its thing, once it enters sleep/hibernation, it instantly powers back up. I have changed nothing to my pc's hardware since the format, and this issue never occurred before hand.
Some of the things I have tried are making sure the power management setting were correct. I also hard reset my motherboards cmos to manufacturer settings.
The above seemed to make no difference.
I am having a problem where my laptop doesn't got into sleep / hibernation mode when the battery is running low. It just shuts down suddenly causing the machine to give me an error about not been shut down property upon reboot.

Safe mode is fine (I have tweaked the registry so I have sound in safe mode) My system specs are in my profile, but used Winaudit for full specs. The winaudit report in formatted text is too big for an attachment. I have 2 attachments to this post, including zipped up minidumps. Could my registry tweak for sound have something to do with this? Perfmon /report was run, but it says:

Multiple times when ive put my laptop into sleep mode it has crashed when I turn it back on. It does not do it every time, just majority. After I have turned my laptop off normally and then turned it back on I get the windows has crashed screen, asking me if I would like to start my computer in safe mode or normal. I do not get a BSOD. The error message when i log back in says the files that describe the problem are: C:WindowsMEMORY.DMP.
I have a Dell Studio 17 laptop running Windows 7 Home premium 32 bit It was an upgrade from Microsoft as an OEM product to replace the original Dell Vista OEM OS
The laptop is 3 years old.
Whenever the system is pout into sleep or hibernation, or when the lid id closed, it does not enter sleep mode, but crashed. On restarting the usual error message ststing that windows did not shut down correctly is displayed.
Over the last week, my laptop has started to occasionally crash and switch off when it's in sleep mode - after this happens, it won't turn on when the power button is pushed, it'll only work again when it's plugged in. Once it's switched on again I get the black screen that tells me it wasn't shut down properly. I've followed several of the suggestions I've seen on various threads (the power settings upon closing lid are set at 'sleep', hybrid sleep is switched off, I keep it well ventilated, the drivers and BIOS are updated) and still it happens. I haven't done anything significantly different on the laptop, no new installations or updates that I can remember, it runs perfectly fine on battery power when it's awake, nothing else at all seems wrong. I only updated drivers and BIOS etc. after the first few times this happened.
I'm sure it's significant that the laptop is usually fine in sleep mode (even on battery power) and wakes up properly if it's been sat still in one place, and it only seems to crash while I'm moving it i.e. the power light is on when I pick the laptop up, I carry it to another room, set it down and the light has gone off. Also, in one instance after moving it I successfully woke the laptop from sleep, went to plug it in, and when I looked it again it had turned off.
It's still under warranty for another 60 days so I plan to take it in to be checked (I'm not smart enough to start taking apart a laptop, much less actually understand how to fix it), but until I can get to the store next week I'd really like to know what this could be.
i have to press the power button every time instead. all the laptop i've owned before were never like that, opening the lid would've sufficed. i checked power options settings, i don't see "lid open action", only "lid close action" which is set to "sleep" mode.
View 10 Replies View RelatedRecently when entering sleep mode, the laptop does not go to sleep but crashes. When I go to restart the laptop, I get the windows as recovered from an unexpected shut down. However I have noticed it does not crash, when I first turn the laptop on and at the choose user screen. Here it goes to sleep fine and resumes fine, any other situation and it crashes.

Also, I noticed that there is a hotfix for this provided by microsoft, but I would have no way to use this since my computer cannot get stuck out of this. After Researching this, I heard some people taking out the battery and holding the power button down for 30 seconds, then running it off of a/c power.

View 3 Replies View RelatedBefore this problem happened, I downloaded my GPU enhancing software. It kinda screwed the graphics and I think at this point the problem began.I don't know how to copy the what bluescreen said. But I think it said some new software or hardware causing the windows to not function properly. So, I deleted the GPU enhancing program completely (I thought it would be bertter to do recovery, but there was no critical update.) Deleting it fixed my screwed graphics but not the bluescreen problem.

I bought a new notebook running windows 7 64 bit a couple of months ago After running a full system scan with Kaspersky anti-virus a couple of days ago I now have a bug with sleep mode - After going into sleep mode, the user with my picture icon is locked meaning that I can't enter my password to log back in - the password box doesn't show. With the ASUS face recognition scanner I'm logged back in, but everything is 'buggy' e.g. if I click on the start button and hover over that entire area it goes into sleep again, or if i click on the bookmarks on chrome it doesn't show them, instead it click on an actual site within the bookmarks. After going into sleep the only way to enter and return to a normal state is to click the 'switch user' whereupon, my user picture icon reverts with the password boxI have tried a system restore but this didn't work.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've come across the following BSOD:STOP 0x0000007F (0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAPThis appears to have started shortly after I installed a network drive. The drive is a Western Digital MyBook Live 1TB.Here's the sequence of events:1) Installed the drive and ran the software from the CD. I only installed the WD SmartWare Drive Manager, NOT the backup software.2) Evaluated and tried out the drive for a couple of days - no issues, everything worked fine.3) Then, Windows Update notified me of 2 updates...which were rather strange...a) HD - Other Hardware - WD MyBook Live - IMPORTANT HD - Other Hardware - Storage Media Update - OPTIONAL (not the exact description, but similar)4) I noticed a yellow bang in Device Manager. It was under other devices, but it was obviously my network drive that I installed. It said that "No Driver could be found for this device." However, my drive was working fine and no issues were noted.5) I installed the 2 Windows Updates and the Yellow bang went away. The device now had a driver and was viewed under the appropriate device category.6) Went to bed, I restarted the computer the next day and within 1 minute of bootup, I get the above BSOD. I rebooted and the same error occured.Things to note:a) The error happens often (about 50% of the time) but not always. However, it always occurs within 1 to 2 minutes after bootup and the error code is exactly the same each time. If I don't get the error after 2 minutes of bootup, I will not get it at all. Safemode & Safemode with Networking do not appear to experience the BSOD.c) When the BSOD occurs, it usually happens when the boot drive (System partition) is very "Busy" (like after a Windows Update, new program install, etc.)d) It references the same file associated with Acronis True Image as the culprit (see below).
