I recently installed windows 7 after buying a new hard disk cause my old one died.It ran smoothly for about 2 days but all of the sudden when i choose to shut down it simply restarts and when i shut it down by pressing the power button the next time i turn it on it says i should do a system repair which i do and doesnt help. Also my wlan always starts off,before the problems it was enable right when i started my pc.

- I put my flashdrive in the usb and left it in today, but had the same problem without the flashdrive
- It will shut off at the log in screen, but that is it.

Around 3 weeks ago it started getting stuck on the shut down screen, and then it wouldn't shut down or restart from the start menu. This meant I had to remove the battery or hibernate the netbook when I wasn't using it. I fixed this so it would shut down by doing a system restore from a previous restore point. However after a week it's gone back to not shutting down from the start menu. Acer told me to do a complete system restore, but I'd rather not because I need all of my files for my uni work.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI purchased a Toshiba Satellite Pro which had Windows 7 Home Premium pre-installed from the retailer. It worked perfectly, and I had no problems. However, about 4 days ago, the hard drive failed, and I lost everything. This isn't the problem however. I took the laptop to have a replacement hard drive installed, and all a reinstallation of Windows 7 Home Premium. I received the laptop back a couple of days ago, and I had no problems with set-up. I noticed however, that whenever I try to shut the laptop down, or restart it (to apply changes features, configure updates etc) the entire laptop will become unresponsive on the "Shutting Down..." screen. The little blue circle will stop spinning, and none of the Brightness buttons, Cap Lock etc will function, so I know the whole thing has become unresponsive. This forces me to press and hold the power button everytime I wish to turn the laptop off, which of course is a strain on it. I have scanned the entire thing with MalwareBytes and Microsoft Security Essentials, so I know it isn't a virus of some kind (it wouldn't be anyway, as it was acting in this way before it was even connected to the internet.)

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm at my whit's end with this. My PC shuts down fine but hangs on restart. It does this is both safe and normal mode. It appears to hang right before the HD would get turned off. The SHUTTING DOWN screen proceeds fine and the HD stops it's activity, the screen goes black (the HD light stays) and it just hangs there. Pressing the RESET button on the PC starts it up fine. If I am restarting from some utility (for example when installing Windows) it can hang with the RESTARTING WINDOWS screen.

View 2 Replies View RelatedA few days (probably about 3) ago, I installed StarStaX. I'm a photographer, and I also have Lightroom and Photoshop Cs5 installed on my computer. Early in the day, it was totally fine, but then, my mouse gave out. It's a real piece of junk that you had to plug in and unplug to get working every time you'd restart the computer, (but it was USB, so no worries). Fortunately, I have a Wacom Tablet that I could use instead. However, when shortly after I started using the tablet, as soon as I opened StarStaX it would shut down saying the program had stopped working, even though it had been fine that morning. I tried opening it back up several times but the same thing happened. So I tried the old mouse again, which still wasn't working. An error message stating that an "unknown USB device" was connected to the computer started showing up for the first time. Anyways, to get StarStaX to load, I had to shut down Photoshop (and possibly Lightroom) and even then it was still iffy. Not long after, once I was done stacking photos, Lightroom began displaying the same shutdown message, most often if I went to change the color temperature of photo (so just a slider) or if I went to edit in Photoshop. Previously, these programs had run very quickly, even with several other programs like iTunes or Photomatix running. Now even Photoshop usually has to be the only one running or it will end immediately. So, I installed CCleaner, (I have no internet on the described computer so I had to carry it over via a Flash Drive), and deleted a lot of junk. I also took off some programs I know for sure I wouldn't use. When it still wasn't working, I ran Error Check on the C Drive (I think that's how you say it), and it still will not work. After this, on the advice of another user, I downloaded a program called Advanced SystemCare but that did not work.I am unsure as to what could be causing this problem, so sorry if it would be more appropriate elsewhere. It is not connected to the internet, so I don't think it's a virus, but I am unsure.Here's the specs on my computer according to SysInfo:

I press the power button (which is configured to Hibernate) or press Hibernate in the shutdown menu, it starts to hibernate like usual, but then as soon as it goes to the Windows 7 screen saying something like "Hibernating...", it goes straight back to working properly, and not hibernating. I have made sure my networking devices are allowed to turn off, and that option for my mouse and trackpad is greyed out.
View 2 Replies View Relatedwhenever i open internet explorer 64 bit, a message immediately pops up saying something to the effect of "internet explorer has stopped working. windows is looking for a solution .. blah blah blah" whether i wait for it to tell me to close ie or immediately try to close the message, it just pops up over and over again, making the only way to actually quit ie to go into task manager and end the process (i'm not sure if this is relevant, but when i do that, there are two "iexplore" processes, and only ending the second one (when they're in alphabetical order) actually turns off ie). the program launched from the menu item "internet explorer", which i assume is 32 bit ie, works just fine, as does the no add-ons mode. i have also seen several people asking questions about ie 9 64 bit stopping working on Internet and related sites because of issues with 64 bit flash or the lack thereof. this is not that problem - it freezes immediately upon the start of the program. also, i have just upgraded to service pack 1, but the problem existed before that (i was actually hoping sp1 might fix it, but no luck). i have also uninstalled updates to ie and then re updated to 9, but that didn't help either. (also it is really annoying that that's the closest you're allowed to get to uninstalling ie completely. i would feel much better if i could just exorcise the whole thing and start fresh, but no dice).

I have been using the program Nero SyncUp for a month, but a week ago, the program started to crash immediately after log in. A window error box comes up saying "SyncUp has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you is a solution is available." I have re installed the program and have used system restore to go back to when the program was working but still the same issue.
Where can I find more details about this error so I can go about trying to fix it. The exact same program works without any problem on my other computer that I sync to. When I open up the Windows Event viewer I see the issue under "Windows Logs - Application" as an error report but I have no idea what information on there is generic and what defines the problem or if this is even the place to look.
I've looked through the Advanced Power Settings options and not found something that appeared to be an issue to me. It still auto wakes up with Allow wake timers set to Disable and When sharing media under Multimedia Settings set to Allow the computer to sleep.I also ran powercfg -lastwake in cmdafter an automatic wake up and these were the results:
View 6 Replies View RelatedIm trying to install Windows 7 X86 RTM 7600 on my pc from a burned DVD, it installs everything fine but when it says "Starting Services " the screens blinks, and then the BSoD appears, it goes too fast to notice what it says, cuz the pc reboots immediately. Also the BSoD seems to be too big for my screen so its almost unreadable.
Im writing this on the same pc thats giving me the error. I install Xp normally everytime (Ive installed it 3 times today.
As soon as I open Illustrator, it shuts down. I have read several threads that mention this problem, and how to search error logs for the codes, which I have done, but none of the threads mention a fix for the problem. I just installed CS5 and am really looking forward to using Illustrator (the main reason for my getting CS5 in the first place).

View 1 Replies View Relatedi have a hp pavilion dv3 laptop, 13.3", which runs on windows 7. it has an intel core i5 and 4 gb of ram with 500 gb of memory. it's very new - i only bought it about a month ago, and up until a few hours ago it was running fine. it has been very fast and responsive, and i was careful to not download a load of junk or anything that might slow it down. i used it this morning and it was fine, but since i turned it on this afternoon it has suddenly begun running slowly. when i turn it on i can enter my password and get into my user account, and everything loads fine, but when i try to do anything it will just freeze up and refuse to respond. i can't even right-click and refresh, or click on the taskbar. i just get that little blue spinning circle to infinity.the laptop is running okay in safe mode, which i am in right now. i'm trying to rack my brains to remember what i could have done to mess it up, but nothing comes to mind. last night i downloaded aim, but that didn't seem to have changed anything this morning. when i used the laptop before it started freezing, all i did was watch a few Internet videos and then turn it off again.
when i realised it was freezing, the first thing i did was to turn it off and restart in safe mode. i went to control panel and removed the password to my user account (irrationally, i was getting paranoid about being locked out), which i hope didn't confuse the poor laptop. i then restored it to an earlier date 2 days ago, but it still froze about three minutes after turning it on, and my password was still enabled. after that i went to start > run > msconfig and disabled all the startup items, but the laptop still continued to freeze upon startup. then i unplugged the battery and just ran off the power switch, but it's still freezing! then i started to despair and tried to run a registry cleanup, but i figured it just looked like a scam or a virus so i decided otherwise. i use avast! free antivirus, and i ran a scan, but that didn't find anything.unfortunately, i live in a very hot, dusty country. recently quite a lot of dust was getting into the room where i keep my laptop. i was worried that the laptop might have been getting dust inside it. but i have another older laptop which doesn't seem to be affected at all?i did make backup discs when i first got the laptop, but i only want to use them as a very last resort.
I've got a HP Pavilion g series laptop, which has recently, when being turned on, powering up as normal by turning the light of the power button on and lighting the screen, then quickly shutting these off again, and then continuing to turn on as normal.It hasnt been doing this for very long, I have no idea whether it is a serious problem or not as I don't know anything about computers. I must add that I don't use my laptop with the battery in; I use it with the battery out as I mostly use it plug into the mains.

So, I wrote down as much info as I could. I've tried startup repair multiple times, and I've tried system restore, neither work. I was wondering if someone could help me out. I just recently installed a new copy of windows on my OCZ Vertex 3 90GB SSD. I have been trying to run down a problem of my pc waking from sleep as soon as i close the screen. I have been throught the device mgr, mgmt.msc, pc is updated, and i only experience this when i close the top.....if i put the pc to sleep and dont close the top it works perfectly....close the top....5 seconds later....pc wakes and the logs report says that its the power button is waking the pc....dont know how because i cant access power button when the top is closed...

I used remote desktop from another computer to see whether it was just the video that wasn't being reposted, but when I tried to connect, it couldn't find the computer. None of the keys work on my keyboard, including the sleep and power buttons.
