I tried to install my windows 7 updates for some reason over an hour later it hadn't finished & I had to leave so tried to cancel the install, nothing happened so I just shut laptop. It works fine but I cannot shut it down anymore or restart so my updates can take effect

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Acer Laptop won't boot windows 7, when I turn on my laptop the Acer logo and "Press <F2> to enter setup" appears. Right after that it tries to boot and just restarts itself, it doesn't get to the windows logo it just flashes white at the top left corner and just restarts continuously this way till I manually shutdown. I've tried to access the windows recovery partition by hitting F10 but it doesn't work and yes this option is enabled in the bios. I've run ram checks and hard drive checks and they both checked ok. I tried using ubuntu os and get to its first menu on bootup but whenever I want to run from disk or usb drive the screen goes blank.

checked all possible setting as per my knowledge. The point to note here is that sound is working perfectly OK in Ubuntu 11.10. so my speakers appear to be OK.

Windows installation cannot proceed. To install windows, click ok to restart the computer, and then restart the installation. I have contacted acer they tried to help with the ALT and F12. Nothing I have tried works.. They told me to order the recovery discs for $20.00. I did , and they dont work either... I contacted them back, and now they say to send it back to them and for $199.00 plus shipping, they will repair the computer..I do not have the money for that..I have the the system disc, the 3 recovery disc and the language disc , that I just ordered from Acer for $20.00.

- I put my flashdrive in the usb and left it in today, but had the same problem without the flashdrive
- It will shut off at the log in screen, but that is it.

Around 3 weeks ago it started getting stuck on the shut down screen, and then it wouldn't shut down or restart from the start menu. This meant I had to remove the battery or hibernate the netbook when I wasn't using it. I fixed this so it would shut down by doing a system restore from a previous restore point. However after a week it's gone back to not shutting down from the start menu. Acer told me to do a complete system restore, but I'd rather not because I need all of my files for my uni work.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI purchased a Toshiba Satellite Pro which had Windows 7 Home Premium pre-installed from the retailer. It worked perfectly, and I had no problems. However, about 4 days ago, the hard drive failed, and I lost everything. This isn't the problem however. I took the laptop to have a replacement hard drive installed, and all a reinstallation of Windows 7 Home Premium. I received the laptop back a couple of days ago, and I had no problems with set-up. I noticed however, that whenever I try to shut the laptop down, or restart it (to apply changes features, configure updates etc) the entire laptop will become unresponsive on the "Shutting Down..." screen. The little blue circle will stop spinning, and none of the Brightness buttons, Cap Lock etc will function, so I know the whole thing has become unresponsive. This forces me to press and hold the power button everytime I wish to turn the laptop off, which of course is a strain on it. I have scanned the entire thing with MalwareBytes and Microsoft Security Essentials, so I know it isn't a virus of some kind (it wouldn't be anyway, as it was acting in this way before it was even connected to the internet.)

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm at my whit's end with this. My PC shuts down fine but hangs on restart. It does this is both safe and normal mode. It appears to hang right before the HD would get turned off. The SHUTTING DOWN screen proceeds fine and the HD stops it's activity, the screen goes black (the HD light stays) and it just hangs there. Pressing the RESET button on the PC starts it up fine. If I am restarting from some utility (for example when installing Windows) it can hang with the RESTARTING WINDOWS screen.

I powered off my computer (causing it to force close the McAfee scan) and everything was going fine until it froze during the force close. Now its getting slower again.So I want to fully reinstall the software from scratch. I do not have an recovery disk from the binning. So i changed its boot from hidden to active.(0C was changed to 07) with the other three partitions being 07 as well. This has turned out bad for me now. It seems there is a mbr that is not being recognized. I turn the acer 0ne aspire d255e on and the machine goes to a screen that say can't load windows due to recent hardware or software changes.Status: 0xc0000225It also ask to have the installation disk inserted, of which there is'nt one and the computer doesn't have a dvd/cd drive anyway. It was all on the pq service, which is the hidden partition. I've tried flashing the acer pc as well from usb. and can't get that to work.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMost desktop monitors, when inactive for periods of time(usually preset in o.s. or altered for individual tastes) saves electricity by powering down the monitor, and let it "sleep", but any programs running on the cpu, continue on, unabated. But with these Acer Aspire All-in-one compters are different, i may be listening to an internet radio station, and even though it's not a computer program running,,after a time of inactivity of my manually working (via my keyboard) or something like that, the screen goes black and it kills the internet connection to the internet radio i am listening to. Yes,,if that happens,,i only have to jiggle or move my mouse to turn the screen back on, but is a real pain to have to continually jar the mouse to keep the radio on. Any ideas on how to avoid this black screen of killing my internet radio, and downloads??or anything going on ,while the screen is active?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am working with backing up my computer and I am dazzled by all the dvd R and RW and minus and plus etc. My dvd drive is listed like this: DVD +or - RW (+ or - DL)/DVD Ram. I am probably on the wrong board but I couldn't get on the "internal hardware" I have no idea what all this means. All I know is that DVD+RW seems to work. The clerk told me that I had better be sure what my dvd drive uses.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an ACER One (Model A0531h) netbook. I have now tried several times to recovery it to factory settings using the built in recovery partition. I access this recovery partition by using Alt-f10 during boot. The recovery runs fine up until 99% where it 'sticks'.. for days..The application running the recovery is Acer eRecovery Manager v7.5.15. I have also recovering using the recovery DVD's which I burned. They seem to go through the process but then when I restart the system I get a black screen complaining about missing files. I am then instructed to run recovery...This is driving me crazy. I have also reseated the RAM but dont want to have to strip of the cover to reseat hard drive. I can however hear it running and I have also used Active@boot to reformat the C drive. The recovery partition has not been touched and is not damaged. It runs perfectly up to 99%.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using an Acer Aspire 5517, running Windows 7 Home Premium (Service Pack 1). While using it, every few minutes the system will hang. It becomes completely unresponsive and the cursor turns into a waiting icon (spinning circle) for anywhere from 30 seconds to a couple minutes before it becomes responsive again. It doesn't seem to matter what programs are running, I've seen it happen after a reboot while just using Windows Explorer. Norton Antivirus scans are clean. I also ran Malware Bytes, which cleaned up a few items but the problems persist. I'm not sure if there is other malware on the computer.
