[CRASH] Windows 7 Crashes On Restart/Shut Down
Jul 15, 2012
I purchased a Toshiba Satellite Pro which had Windows 7 Home Premium pre-installed from the retailer. It worked perfectly, and I had no problems. However, about 4 days ago, the hard drive failed, and I lost everything. This isn't the problem however. I took the laptop to have a replacement hard drive installed, and all a reinstallation of Windows 7 Home Premium. I received the laptop back a couple of days ago, and I had no problems with set-up. I noticed however, that whenever I try to shut the laptop down, or restart it (to apply changes features, configure updates etc) the entire laptop will become unresponsive on the "Shutting Down..." screen. The little blue circle will stop spinning, and none of the Brightness buttons, Cap Lock etc will function, so I know the whole thing has become unresponsive. This forces me to press and hold the power button everytime I wish to turn the laptop off, which of course is a strain on it. I have scanned the entire thing with MalwareBytes and Microsoft Security Essentials, so I know it isn't a virus of some kind (it wouldn't be anyway, as it was acting in this way before it was even connected to the internet.)

I read through a few threads with similar topics but the issues were either not quite the same and/or resolved comparatively easily. I am trying to repair a 1.5 year-old HP Pavilion running Windows 7 Home Premium 64. This machine is used as the main office computer in a small doctor's office. In spite of my warnings, anti-virus software was not installed until it was too lateThere was a major issue about seven months ago that required another company to repairThe problem is explorer.exe will not run. Double-clicking a shortcut on the desktop, clicking the text name of a program from the Start menu, and even in the cmd results in the same response, a dialog box pops up stating windows explorer has stopped working.
windows is checking for a solution to the problem. followed by another box stating windows explorer is restarting. But the requested application never starts. I have run the Ultimate Boot CD 4 Win, replaced the hard drive and cloned all data, run numerous registry scans, malware scans and antivirus scans. Initially removing over 1500 virus/malware hits and over 1400 registry errors. But the main problem persists, explorer.exe won't open programs.

I haven't used this computer in about a month, but it doesn't shut off/restart when I start windows 7. It just says "computer is shutting down" and stays that way. A few things:
- I put my flashdrive in the usb and left it in today, but had the same problem without the flashdrive
- It will shut off at the log in screen, but that is it.

I'm at my whit's end with this. My PC shuts down fine but hangs on restart. It does this is both safe and normal mode. It appears to hang right before the HD would get turned off. The SHUTTING DOWN screen proceeds fine and the HD stops it's activity, the screen goes black (the HD light stays) and it just hangs there. Pressing the RESET button on the PC starts it up fine. If I am restarting from some utility (for example when installing Windows) it can hang with the RESTARTING WINDOWS screen.

I have a new Lenovo machine with Windows 7 preloaded
I normally leave my machine in the 'sleep' option overnight. I then use the mouse to resume Windows 7. On a number of occassions I see a power saving box appear with a countdown and then the Lenovo logo appears on the screen with a Windows 7 recovery panel. I then have to re-boot the machine. I have used the help box that windows provides to 'find the cause' after the reboot, but it does not point the way to resolve the problem. I would guess that this fault appears nearly 30% of the time that I try and resume following the 'sleep' option.

example: Playing Diablo III while talking with friends on mumble. The game suddenly freezes and I wait to see if it shoud come back, and it never does.So I press Ctrl-Alt-Del to close the program, and the status says "Not responding" I close the program and wait like 5-10 sec until I can see it's closed in "task manager" and i try to start the program again. This happens, the cursor shows that it's "thinking" for like 2-3 sec, then nothing happens. Same problem occurs with Skype, these are the programs im 100% sure to crash everytime.I've tried to open them all as administrator.Tried compatible modessystem recoveryStart up Repair (windows 7 feature I believe)

I have Windows 7 64bit and I am trying to set the system up to not automatically restart if it crashes and when it crashes to write a mini dump file. However after I deselect restart automatically and select mini dump and click ok and exit, I see that all settings are reverted to default settings.

I have an Acer Aspire one netbook that's 3 months old running on Windows 7. Around 3 weeks ago it started getting stuck on the shut down screen, and then it wouldn't shut down or restart from the start menu. This meant I had to remove the battery or hibernate the netbook when I wasn't using it. I fixed this so it would shut down by doing a system restore from a previous restore point. However after a week it's gone back to not shutting down from the start menu. Acer told me to do a complete system restore, but I'd rather not because I need all of my files for my uni work.

The problem is that when I boot my PC it will go black and restart after getting to the windows logo boot part. If I try Safe mode it will get to SYSTEM32DRIVERSDISK.SYS and then just bluescreens and restarts again. Before it got to CLASSPNP.SYS but I tried to rename it to CLASSPNP.OLD and now it didn't really change much. I also tried using this code but it just tells me that some files are corrupt and it cannot repair it.If I try the automatic repair option it will just try and repair for a couple of hours and then say it cannot repair and rebooting the PC.

system:
intel core i7 2600 3.4g
gigabyte ga-p67a-ud3p-b3 p67 socket
16g ddr3 1333mhz hyperx blu memory
[code].....
no bsod, but often the machine becomes totally unresponsive, no mouse, no keyboard.
Internet is especially prone, will fail after about 20-30 mins of we browsing. the video begins to load and then stops and nothing happens. i sometimes get "website not repsonding" and after trying to quit it returns and works for a while, then locks up. all browsers (ie, firefox and chrome) when this happens, task manager becomes unresponsive and the machine will not shut down, often hanging on the "logoff" screen, sometimes hanging on "shutting down" screen.
if a total lock up happens, the only way out is to press the restart button. i've installed a new soundcard instead of the onboard sound (m-audio delta) and tried a different graphics card, the fault remains. i've run memcheck86 and no fault found. core temps are around 51 deg.
all drivers are up to date and i have today installed the 16bit flash upgrade. i've run uniblue registry booster and cleared some errors, but the problem remains.
i've ran a performance report, but nothing i can see wrong. the machine has no problems with my adobe master collection or playing local media (mp3. dvd etc). derek ps as i type this the font in this window is distorting in size somewhat.

I attempt to start explorer.exe but the task manager crashes as well. The same thing happens in Safe Mode and i can't get to MSCONFIG to run a clean boot.[CODE]

I bought GTA complete pack from steam from steam the other day and patiently waited for the 40gb of files to download and they all ran fine but when I play GTA IV it runs fine until I shoot someone or crash in a car. When I shoot or crash then the screen goes black, the sound loops and the only way I can do anything is if I use task manager to shut down my pc (and even then it gets to "shutting down ..." and stays there until I hold down the power button). When I turn it back on everything is fine but I don't know why it's doing it.

After downgrading my AVG antivirus to the free version I restarted. After restarting my PC will no longer load windows 7. After "Launch startup repair (recommended) kicks in it goes to a loading screen. After that it goes black then after a short pause I get a blue screen that says: STOP: c000021a (FAatal System Error) and basically says that the system has been shut down. I can get to my FOXCONN motherboard setup but cannot get to safe mode.

Asus K52JT laptop
AMD Radeon 6370M with HD audio
Atheron AR9285 Wirelss adapter
At my wit's end on this one. After a system crash a couple of days ago I found that my audio and wireless were disabled. Tried to restart the services but got error 1053 with wireless and error 1068 with windows audio. Have done the following: Checked for any virus malware: Macafee AV, Malwarebytes, Spysweeper and Sptbot. Nothing found.Tried starting in services on many occasions. Same issue.Installed up to date drivers. Rolled back drivers to original versions. Same problem.Ran troubleshooter in windows 7. Received notices that the services were stopped but could not be fixed.Ran windows fixes from Microsoft site with the same result as W7 troubleshooter.Downloaded copies of dll files and replaced them in win/system 32. Same problem.Ran sfc /scannow found no issues. I have my ASUS backup disk(s) so I can install the OS again but I don't want to lose the software I have already installed.

My computer crashes on shutdown, restart and I suspect hibernate (I think that is what causes them while it sits idle). It was more broken yesterday than it is now, as I have seemingly solved some of the problems. I have included some history below, just in case it's useful.I got back from a trip (4 month exchange) and installed 26 windows updates. only KB2607576 failed, then it worked when windows tried again. When I opened Windows after that, my NIC card and several USB drivers weren't working (code 10 I think... certain .dlls didn't load). I had to disable/reenable each device/usb one in order to get them working. Occasionally the system would hang while I did this, usually on the last USB - forcing a manual power off.
I eventually rolled back to a restore solved before I left for my exchange and; updated my BIOS, chipset and USB to the latest from the manu's site. I figure windows installed the new USB 3.0 drivers (Renases USB 3.0 Host Controller/Root Hub) without any regard to my chipset/bios version and this somehow caused the problem - though I have no evidence and little experience in this area.Windows was also telling me Skype wasn't working, though it appeared to be working fine (it gave mo the fix a problem with... dialogue). I have re-installed Skype since. Now everything seems to be working (NIC, USB, etc.), except for the crashes. When it crashes, I see a BSOD. A BSOD was happening earlier while the NIC/USB were acting up also, but there appear to be no logs for those. These are in fact the only logs I have, and this has happened several times.

I've been working for the past week to try and figure this out :*( please help me out, don't ask about the name, couldn't get it to take any normal names at the time.
I don't know exactly what is happening with my computer but since the guild wars 2 beta weekend my computer would freeze make a very loud scratching sort of sound than the client would crash. At first I figured ok its just beta something isn't happy with my system, I figured it was just that cross fire wasn't optimized for the beta and that my 5970 had some cross fire structure to it with the dual gpu. Than while playing Sniper Elite v2 it happened again, not to the full extent of the loud noise but still there was scratching. After each time the games would crash all my other programs would crash as well, and when they did work they would be screwed up. I would try playing music and it would sort of work than have the static or scratching sound again, occasionally a beeping sound.
I have my audio drivers up to date and I have tested it out threw my screen speakers and my razer megalodon usb head phones. I have checked for a new mobo bios and haven't found anything new for it, I than checked to update my graphic drivers and brought them up to 12.4. I don't run anything but the drivers due to it making my system very unstable. I than did a complete wipe, did 8 passes over both my base hard drive and my 1 tb hard drive. Fully updated windows and my drivers again and I am still experiencing the same problems. I have my video card over clocked to 900 core clock and 1200 memory at 1.137 volts, its stable as can be. I also have my cpu over clocked to 3.7 ghz but I have never had a issue with it either, they both have been at these speeds for the past 2 years. The temps are all with in more than safe temps and I have just recently cleaned the entire computer.
Just finished doing memtext86+ for 5 passes and came up with 0 errors, I have also checked inside my event viewer logs for any critical events and can't find any.My system specs according to speccy:
Operating System
MS Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
CPU
AMD Phenom II X6 1090T
Thuban 45nm Technology

today I have ran into a troublesome problem. When I turn on my computer, after 10-20 minutes it would BSOD then crash before I even have a chance to read it. After it restarts it will said that it is unable to boot and select a boot device. When I go into the BIOS the moment it restarts my hard drive would not appear there, but if I turn off the computer and turn it back on it would appear again as the selected boot device, but will soon later crash once more.

After it restarts, it gives me the option to start windows normally or in a safe mode.My OS is Windows 7 64 bit.Quad core 2.5GHZGforce 560 2GB4 GB RAM

I have been receiving is that, whenever I try to shut down my computer, it will go to the 'shutting down' screen as usual, bu the shutting down would stay there forever, and does not do anything. This results into shutting down the computer manually by pressing the power button on the CPU. It is very frustrating because when this occurs, it gives off further errors and computer becomes abit unstable. The next time I had logged in (today) I received the folliwing message upon windows starting up. This message happens to ocur after the pc was shut down manually.

PC is a Gateway FX series specs:Windows 7 64-bit (upgrade CD from Vista)
Intel i7 950
GeForce GTX 285
8gb RAM
Avast! free home virus
The issue is that any time I play ANY game, when I try to shut down the computer, it stays at the "Shutting Down" phase forever and then after 15-20+ min, sometimes it re-starts itself. Of note, is that when this happens and I manually shut the computer off, and turn it back on I get a "Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown" message. and the error ID is BlueScreen-something.
This does NOT occur when I use the PC for anything else such as browsing the internet. No matter what game it is, any time I play a game (not counting minesweeper, solitaire, etc), the computer will not shut down. All drivers seem to be up to date. Any ideas on what could be causing this?
