I have Windows 7 64bit and I am trying to set the system up to not automatically restart if it crashes and when it crashes to write a mini dump file. However after I deselect restart automatically and select mini dump and click ok and exit, I see that all settings are reverted to default settings.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI purchased a Toshiba Satellite Pro which had Windows 7 Home Premium pre-installed from the retailer. It worked perfectly, and I had no problems. However, about 4 days ago, the hard drive failed, and I lost everything. This isn't the problem however. I took the laptop to have a replacement hard drive installed, and all a reinstallation of Windows 7 Home Premium. I received the laptop back a couple of days ago, and I had no problems with set-up. I noticed however, that whenever I try to shut the laptop down, or restart it (to apply changes features, configure updates etc) the entire laptop will become unresponsive on the "Shutting Down..." screen. The little blue circle will stop spinning, and none of the Brightness buttons, Cap Lock etc will function, so I know the whole thing has become unresponsive. This forces me to press and hold the power button everytime I wish to turn the laptop off, which of course is a strain on it. I have scanned the entire thing with MalwareBytes and Microsoft Security Essentials, so I know it isn't a virus of some kind (it wouldn't be anyway, as it was acting in this way before it was even connected to the internet.)

About 4 months ago, windows decided to set my monitor shut off time to 20 minutes. The first time it happened, I figured it was a one-off thing, and set the monitor off setting back to "never". Fast forward 4 months, and I have to turn the setting to "never" every time I start my computer. I've even made custom power profiles, and every time I restart, the monitor off setting keeps going back to 20 minutes.

today I have ran into a troublesome problem. When I turn on my computer, after 10-20 minutes it would BSOD then crash before I even have a chance to read it. After it restarts it will said that it is unable to boot and select a boot device. When I go into the BIOS the moment it restarts my hard drive would not appear there, but if I turn off the computer and turn it back on it would appear again as the selected boot device, but will soon later crash once more.

I have a monitor in my notification area that tells how many MB I have left (this is from the ISP), and during the day with nothing running my MB slowly drops. I installed NetBalancer, to see where all the download was going, and all I can find downloading is Windows Update, and System Resources. At least for the most part that is.So my question is, Is there any way to limit Windows Update, and other Windows Systems to downloading only during those three hours? I have Windows Update setting set to only Install at 4:00am. But it still downloads during the day. So is there any thing I can do, a reg edit, or something?

Lately whenever i try to start my computer it pass the Dell Bios and then directly goes to the screen which states
Repair your system or Start windows normally When i chose repair system , it start downloading windows files and then launch the windows , but hung up at the sky blue login window with only movable cusor . I've been trying to troubleshoot my BSOD issues the last 2 months but I'm not sure what to do from here. During restart my computer will BSOD; sometimes restart 5~6 times will BSOD, sometimes 2000~3000 times not happen, always seemingly random but once happen ,next time will continuous BSOD. A few things I've already done:
Updated BIOS.
Scan virus (no virus)
During the day I clicked on a link saying I needed to check for updates or restart my computer. Don't remember exactly which program it was or in what order.
However, now when my computer starts up my desktop has reverted to some default desktop which is misssing a lot of my icons I had previously. Some of my shortcuts are still there, but most are missing.
My system was always restarting in the middle of the work and when it restarts it shows the error message of computer not responding. I disable the automatic restart in the control panel> System > and settings

Uh, i tried the solution of group policy editing and got a error message with three choice about mmc. i tried sfc scan and it get disrupted at 14 percent and said that the scan cannot be completed. I tried deleting hideScanetwork and rebooted but it doesnt work. I tried editing the dword 00000000 for hidesca but it doesnt work.
I am the sole owner and user of my laptop. When I first set it up, I established 3 'User Accounts' in the Control panel. One account - the one I would be using most frequently - I set up with 'System Administrator' privileges. The other 2 accounts are for guests, and do not have 'SysAdmin' privileges. My problem is that fairly often, I get a pop-up box that says "You require System Administrator privileges to perform this action." This happens when I am trying to make room on my remote HDD by deleting an old backup. It seems that the operating system does not recognize my 'account' - or any other account for that matter - as having "System Administrator" privileges. How can I correct this problem? Using Win7-Home Premium on an HP dv7 laptop.

When I run the recovery media (recovery dvd) that comes with my asus laptop and after answering the prompts, it gives off "missing operating system" message on an entirely black screen. I tried to go to the bios setting by hitting delete key upon boot-up but it does not respond. I switched off and back on several times trying the delete key every time but to no avail. It's an ASUS N61J Series with intel i7.

I very recently graduated and as a congratulations, my brother-in-law gave me a brand new Nvidia 9800GTX for my computer. I was running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit when I installed it and I immediately saw a drastic increase in performance. However, when I turned my computer off for the night, I noticed that it would hang at the shut down screen and never actually turn off.Refusing to believe that the new card was at fault, and having next to nothing on my C partition after my most recent formatting, I decided to go ahead and reinstall Windows to hopefully fix the issue. This is where my other problems started in. Suddenly Windows Explorer was crashing whenever I tried to use my disk drive and my system would randomly lock up. After assuming my install went wrong, I tried reinstalling twice more and neither worked.Finally, I got fed up and reinstalled my 32-bit copy of Windows 7 Professional and it still didn't work. As of now I've removed the new card and put my old 9500GT back in to find that I'm not having a single problem with the 9500.

Just to be clear, these crashes do not provide a BSOD and therefore no error code for me to research and correct on my own.
