During the day I clicked on a link saying I needed to check for updates or restart my computer. Don't remember exactly which program it was or in what order.
However, now when my computer starts up my desktop has reverted to some default desktop which is misssing a lot of my icons I had previously. Some of my shortcuts are still there, but most are missing.
This seems to happen to me a lot, from what seems to be games. Researching some more, It could be resolution changes (seeing as it also happens when I plug another monitor in) however, I can't find a fix (other than at that link, but I don't want to install software I haven't heard of, much less an antivirus as it may come in conflict with MSE)

I've been trying to troubleshoot my BSOD issues the last 2 months but I'm not sure what to do from here. During restart my computer will BSOD; sometimes restart 5~6 times will BSOD, sometimes 2000~3000 times not happen, always seemingly random but once happen ,next time will continuous BSOD. A few things I've already done:
Updated BIOS.
Scan virus (no virus)
I have Windows 7 64bit and I am trying to set the system up to not automatically restart if it crashes and when it crashes to write a mini dump file. However after I deselect restart automatically and select mini dump and click ok and exit, I see that all settings are reverted to default settings.

Today i decided to watch Naruto shippuden so i searched it on google went to the link, found the video and clicked play. 5 seconds after i hit Play my computer shut off. The system automatically restarts and i Select run windows normally again it restarts and gives BSOD. I can run windows in Safe mode, and safe mode with networking. When it restarts i hit run windows normally, it runs everything is fine. The boom BSOD.

until recently I had a ubuntu/Windows 7 dual boot. i got a laptop with ubuntu so i decided to remove it from my pc. after that i had tremendous problems as grub decided to delete my partition table. anyway i got that fixed.so i have 3 hdd's in my pc. 1x 500gb sata, 1x 500gb ide & 1x 1tb sata. i did a fresh install after my boot problem, everything was fine again until today. i installed windows on drive c: on my 500gb sata hdd. the 1tb sata is for data, the ide will be used as a network hdd.so as i turned on my pc today, it didnt boot and just showed a prompt. so i booted from another drive. to my surprise i got a grub command line despite me uninstalling it and doing a fresh install.anyway i booted into the recovery dvd, did startup repair without sucess. so i looked around cmd to find that now my windows partition got assigned the drive letter.i dont know if i recall correctly but i think my teacher said that Windows 7 can only boot from c:. so i think that this is basically my problem.how do i get drive d: to show up as c: again? please npte that i CANNOT boot into windows

So, I've been having a bunch of problems with BSODs lately and I've been struggling to find the cause because even after disabling automatic restart in the system properties, the damn thing still restarts. All I get is the Windows Error Reporting service starting up when the computer reboots and telling me my computer just Blue Screened. I'm pretty sure I could figure out what it is (I already know it's not RAM, because I ran memtest on it for 13 hours with no results) if I just could get at that error code on the blue screen, but that's hard to do when you never even see it.
View 12 Replies View Relatedover the weekend I updated my video card drivers to the most recent version and since then my system would crash after I play a game of Dota or whatever. If I left the computer running without running any games it would perform fine and not crash. Sometimes it would give me a BSOD but more often than not my computer would simply turn off and then restart. There were no dump file created nor where there any events logged other than:"Session "Microsoft Security Client OOBE" stopped due to the following error:0xC000000D" and "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first..."I ran a Memtest86+ and I have no errors and I recently did a fresh install of Windows 7 so I'm pretty sure that it is due to my video card drivers.But the problem now is that the system crashes even after I did a system restore and after I completely reinstalled my drivers to a much much earlier version (like a year and a half old driver).

1. Close all application and end recent file process.
2. Check " don't remove file to the recycle bin, remove file immediately when delete" in the recycle bin.

i m suffering from the problem every time I restart my lappie I have to change my default gateway IP in my Network and sharing settings.

Well i thought that turning off the option for auto restart when a system failure occurs would be a good idea so i could see a blue screen of death so i could determine the problem with my computer but it did nothing. My computer still restarts whenever.

I have a Philips 244E WS LCD, and the resolution I have right now is the max I can choose from at1280x1024, which makes the screen look "Squoozshed" and gives me a headache to look at! I tried installing the NVIDIA drivers but they made no change in the resolution. I have the GeForce 6600 GT card btw.

The computer was set up by the store tech who among other things downloaded and installed Window Live Mail now that Outook Express is no more.We are having persistent problems with the keyboard in Live Mail only. If you enclose certain characters in ( ) or " ", you get stupid emoticons or strange letters with peculiar accent marks. The tech came back and checked: the language is set to English/US Canada. I had two more volumes D and E.So i needed one more volume therefore i shrinked the D and took 16 GB from it and made it new volume as NTFS formatted drive M. I read that a custom installation would save the old contents in and Windows.old folder, including the user profiles. However, after custom installation the windows.old folder is there, but my Vista profile is gone. Probably because it was password protected. I figured I would be able to find it and elevate my privelegies in Win 7, but seems not. It still seems the harddrive is full of my old information(alot of GB's are used). Is there any way to recover the information? I know the old password and all that, just can't find the information. (Also tried to search for exact file and folder names but they cannot be found).

I would be transferring a large amount of files from a hard drive to a backup overnight, only to find myself on the login screen and half of the files transferred next morning. Or I'd be playing a game, surfing the web, even the simplest of tasks, it doesn't matter.

Every now and then, my system just completely freezes, I can't anything. I can't even restart by pressing the Power button. I don't think it happens when I do a certain task, everything freezes one by one or window by window. Just as an example, first Windows Media Player will freeze then FireFox then Explorer and then the Windows Gadgets and the last to freeze is the cursor. I have no choice but to hold in the Power to hard shutdown my PC. Could this be because of my old motherboard or is it my hard drive crashing? I have 2 HDD, 250Gb each, the HDD that has windows on has about 70Gb free.

I've read that enabling write-caching may speed up drive performance. I checked on my 1TB drive, it was already enabled. On my 500GB drive though it was disabled.So I then decided to enable write-caching on my 500GB drive. I proceeded to do so without any apparent problems. However after doing a system restart I saw that it went back to being disabled again.I've tried this several times already, same thing each time!Enable write caching restart write caching disabled again.
Firefox, Steam, Filezilla, Skype all work.IE, Chrome, Evernote and others all dont.Windows Network Diagnostic tool says: Windows could not automatically detect this network's proxy settings..Its not a virus or malware, its likely because i removed registry keys related to old web filtering software.In the Internet Options settings it is set to automatically detect settings and no proxy server is set.

During the reboot, it did its normal process well restoring," Setup is starting services.", but then during the process when gathering windows data to restore the computer in its final stages, it gives me the message" Windows could not finish configuring the system. To attempt to resume configuration, restart the computer." Shortly after starting my computer, going through the same process, it gives me that message again, and then it repeats, and eventually of course, goes into a circle of completing the same issue.
