I want to check my hard drive for errors, and go through: C/Properties/Tools/ Error Checking/Check Now , etc., but when I do this, I am told that I have to restart my system before it will run. But when I either simply Restart, or Shut Down then restart, the CHKDSK does not run. I am using Windows 7 Home Premium.
View 3 RepliesI am using FreeAgent Go 5oo GB , when I try safely remove FreeAgent Go always show the error massage " Seagate FreeAgent Go USB device can not be uninstalled right now because the system request system restart " and I have to restart every time.I have already tried the following :
1. Close all application and end recent file process.
2. Check " don't remove file to the recycle bin, remove file immediately when delete" in the recycle bin.
3. Disable write caching on the device in devive property "policy" tab.
4. Using third party sync.exe to flushes disk buffers together with HotSwap!.exe yet still shown the same error massage.
I ran the chkdsk /r upon next reboot.The DOS screen was displayed and running.I stopped watching the screen, and hours later upon checking, the screen is not displaying anything.The machine is a laptop hooked up to a docking station.I checked the monitor connections, they keep going to powersave, I undocked the laptop and the display there will not show anything either.The battery and wifi lights are steadily flashing.Windows 7 Pro x64..What is going on? is the chkdsk done? should i hard reboot the machine?

However, about a fortnight ago my computer ran CHKDSK, said that it has deleted some files and now I can't get past the windows loading screen even in safe mode. Startup repair didn't help and the installation CD didn't recognise the OS thus not allowing me to go into repair mode. I reinstalled the OS, but just today it has happened again.

I want to create a system image on my NTFS formatted portable WesternD HDD. Now It has about 250GB of space left(the portable HDD), and the Laptop PC that i want to create the image of, tells me I need about 199GB for the system image.Then first time I created the image, it gave me a failure message saying I should run a CHKDSK /R and ty again. I ran a CHKDSK /R on the external drive and tried making a system image again, where it got about halfway and gave me the same message. What is going wrong every time?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am having issues with my external hard drive. It has been working just fine until today. The drive is showing up and I can access a few folders and fewer files, but the majority of the contents are nowhere to be found. It works without a hitch on every other computer in the house but the main one. Running chkdsk says the drive has a RAW file system and chkdsk can't run. This pc is running Windows 7 32-bit (all the others have Windows 7 64-bit) but no idea why I'm having this issue. Yesterday I installed a new printer, did some windows updates, and had a power outage, so I suspect the problem lies with one of those things. I'm really at a loss here as what to do though.

I've been trying to troubleshoot my BSOD issues the last 2 months but I'm not sure what to do from here. During restart my computer will BSOD; sometimes restart 5~6 times will BSOD, sometimes 2000~3000 times not happen, always seemingly random but once happen ,next time will continuous BSOD. A few things I've already done:
Updated BIOS.
Scan virus (no virus)
It is windows 7 and runs very very smooth (since it's a gaming computer). Today i decided to watch Naruto shippuden so i searched it on google went to the link, found the video and clicked play. 5 seconds after i hit Play my computer shut off. The system automatically restarts and i Select run windows normally again it restarts and gives BSOD. I can run windows in Safe mode, and safe mode with networking. When it restarts i hit run windows normally, it runs everything is fine. The boom BSOD.

However, now when my computer starts up my desktop has reverted to some default desktop which is misssing a lot of my icons I had previously. Some of my shortcuts are still there, but most are missing.
I need to connect to a VPN in order to use my university's exchange email client.Does anybody know if I can define it to connect automatically when my system starts? As it is, I need to manually connect each time (which isn't that difficult, but I rather not having to do it).

This crash will happen many times in a row and then not at all for a week or two and then happen many times in a row.

All I get is the Windows Error Reporting service starting up when the computer reboots and telling me my computer just Blue Screened. I'm pretty sure I could figure out what it is (I already know it's not RAM, because I ran memtest on it for 13 hours with no results) if I just could get at that error code on the blue screen, but that's hard to do when you never even see it.

If I left the computer running without running any games it would perform fine and not crash. Sometimes it would give me a BSOD but more often than not my computer would simply turn off and then restart. i was on my computer surfing the internet when i got a BOSD and restarted my computer it kept happening when i was on the internet so i ran a chkdsk and mem testto see what it could they oth came out clean and i was stumped. i left my computer alone but after a few days i turned it on and decided to try plaing a game and it worked i played the game fora few hours and when i turned it off i was bombarded with messages from this program called win 7 home security that somehow turned off my windows defender 'i tried running a scan with my nod32 antivirus software but it came up clean. this program wouldnt let me go on the internet it kept saying i was unprotected and that it wld save my computeri tried to find a way to uninstall it and i looked for the directory that it was in but i couldn't. so i decided to restart my computer and go into safe mode but when i restarted my comuputer

I would be transferring a large amount of files from a hard drive to a backup overnight, only to find myself on the login screen and half of the files transferred next morning. Every now and then, my system just completely freezes, I can't anything. I can't even restart by pressing the Power button. I don't think it happens when I do a certain task, everything freezes one by one or window by window. Just as an example, first Windows Media Player will freeze then FireFox then Explorer and then the Windows Gadgets and the last to freeze is the cursor. I have no choice but to hold in the Power to hard shutdown my PC. Could this be because of my old motherboard or is it my hard drive crashing? I have 2 HDD, 250Gb each, the HDD that has windows on has about 70Gb free.

I've read that enabling write-caching may speed up drive performance. I checked on my 1TB drive, it was already enabled. On my 500GB drive though it was disabled.So I then decided to enable write-caching on my 500GB drive. I proceeded to do so without any apparent problems. However after doing a system restart I saw that it went back to being disabled again.I've tried this several times already, same thing each time!Enable write caching restart write caching disabled again.
I am using W7, home premium on 1 year old HP desktop computer.Recently, I was having trouble accessing videos from you tube, email and other sites. I had been using adobe flash player 9 and I was told to upgrade adobe flash and to get version 11. I installed version 11 but it would not play until I lowered my privacy settings from medium high to medium per instructions on Adobe. The flash player worked after that except now I am constantly getting the following message everytime I launch IE 9 and every time I go to a web site. Do you want to allow?Allow or block"I am currently getting this message many times a day. No matter if I select block or allow, they keep coming back. This happens on all sites and often is unrelated to the site I am visiting.

That tells me that it's downloading from somewhere and I can't tell from where exactly.. Luckily.. Uninstalling the wireless driver & reinstalling it solves the problem but it tends to come back eventually..
So what I am requesting from you fine people here @ SevenForums is for some type of Internet Bandwidth Monitor which I can use to see where my laptop is downloading from & hopefully stop it completely so that I may use my broadband speed for something more.. For me & less for what I don't want.
