Laptop Cuts Out On Startup
Feb 17, 2013
My girlfriends laptop (my old laptop) is an HP Pavilion dv3-2310ea. It's recently started cutting out (completely turns off as though the battery has been pulled) when in use, but now it's got so bad i can't even get passed the windows startup, and when it does it's near 2mins before it cuts out again. I'm trying to run a bios update but it won't stay on long enough for me to get anywhere with it.

I seem to be having crashes on my laptop as of recent, but the patterns they follow are very strange. It's almost like i'm getting a BSOD while it being used, but instead the screen just go black and all power cuts. It then reboots and starts up as usual. As far as I can tell there is no conflicting software causing this, and it happens without any pattern. Since there is no Blue Screen, I cannot give a dump file. However, on the even viewer, I see an event labeled under the critical category. Now this seems like the CPU or other internal component is overheating, But when i look at HWMonitor Pro, the CPU stays under a steady 84C under load and 60C idle. This happens in a range of occasions such as rendering videos with Handbrake to simply browsing the web. I will say this, I recently swapped out my RAM cards because the OEM one's were causing BSOD's about a month ago. If you'd like more specific information on the laptop, visit my old thread.

I have windows 7 64 bit, OEM, original. System is only 9 months old. Problems only started recently, has made playing any game for longer than 45 minutes virtually impossible. Drivers are up to date as of this post.

When I boot my PC from cold or when it reboots my Ethernet connection isn't enabled and in order to get access to the internet I have to disable it (so it's grayed out) and re-enable it. I've tried Unchecking the box 'Allow this computer to turn this device off to save power' but that didn't fix the problem.
I have Foxconn Blackops X48 board with 2 Broadcom Ethernet ports. I've tried all manner of different drivers in to try and get this work (since I have two ports I've tried August drivers on one and June drivers on the other) but this didn't solve the problem.

My hp dv3t has been giving a message about checking a disk for consistency every time I reboot(ed) for about a week now, but today it froze after the countdown reaches zero (for bypassing the procedure)nothing I do can get it past this step. What do I do? I tried booting from Safe Mode, it listed a bunch of drivers but then froze.I'm using W7 64-bit Home Premium.

I'm running Windows 7 64bit. Not sure exactly what sound card I have, just says RealTek High Definition Audio on my Sound Devices list beside my headset. This headset is only about a year old, doesn't seem to have a model number, it's just a USB device with a mic attached. It only started doing this today. I plug it in, sound plays fine for anywhere from 30 mins to a couple hours then the sound completely cuts out and I have to replug it back in, it plays fine again till it decides to cut out again.

I'm reinstalling Windows 7 onto my 32GB OCZ SSD boot drive. In addition to that drive, I have a 1TB media drive and a 1TB drive that holds my user files as well as all my programs. I can't seem to figure out how to ensure that all the short cuts for the programs and data for the user file will run smoothly on the fresh install. Is there anything I should do before nuking the SSD and anything additional that I should do after the install or just treat it like a fresh SSD/HDD install but use the already existing user data? tl/dr: Reinstall windows on boot drive (SSD) and retain users folder/program files on separate HDD? edit: creating a clone image and using that won't work here, the actual OS files are bad

I've had issues with this thing for awhile but for the sake of the forum I'l stick to my current issue.Upon startup, everything works fine. I put in my login password and Windows begins to load. While Windows is loading it just reezes. The only thing I can say is it freezes after most of the applications load but it's still searching for networks. Straight freezenothing works. However, and this was weird, out of the 4 or 5 times it froze last night, one of the times I was still able to move the mouse. Nothing else worked though. My drivers should be up to date. I do check them and update them as needed.I do regular checks for viruses and spyware. I use free programs that are updated regularly.I "clean up" my system on somewhat regular basis.I defragment the hard drive on a somewhat regular basis.I clean my registry regularly.I deleted the programs that start up with the computer that I don't need. Winamp, my spyware scanner, and this clean-your-PC program I downloaded (see below) no result I recently got suckered into one of those clean your PC programs that cost like 20 bucks. That's the only major program I've downloaded recently. I did a system restore to before I downloaded that and the same problem occurred. The computer works fine in safe mode. Even "with networking" it connects to the internet just fine.I did just realize I didn't do a virus scan in safe mode last night, I'll do that when I get home tonight. But if you guys know a good free virus scanner to use let me know, otherwise I'll follow up if the virus scan fixes it.

On startup, power comes on, the hard disc runs and the system starts to boot but after 10 or 15 seconds the system powers off. This is a sudden and repeatable event, the screen sometimes getting into 'startup repair', but always powering off before any Recovery. After removal of the harddisk, memory slots and video card, I can poweron continuously and the main fan runs ok. A second fan (video chip?) does not run. Replacement of the hdd and memory is ok but as soon as the video card is re-installed the system returns to powering off after 10/15 seconds. The video card is an nvidia gtx go 7900/7950 and I don't want follow an expensive path of unit replacement- the laptop is 4 years old, a Rock Xtreme CTX Pro (a Clevo generic laptop with a Hannstar J MV-4 motherboard.

My sons laptop freezes part way through start up, shortly after windows logo has appeared, remains like this for few minutes befor shutting down. Have tried safeboot and starts until file windowssystem32DRIVERAtiPcie64.sys is reached when it freezes again. I've found some software called Farbar Recovery Scan Tool which has given me a large text file.

my laptop has been working fine for the most, occasionally the screen would go weird and turn white with horizontal lines moving and i planned on getting that checked out soon, but today it wouldn't start up. i turn the laptop on and it goes to the Starting Windows screen and the windows logo never shows up and then it tries to do a system repair and it can't solve the problem. i'm not really sure what else there is for me to do. there aren't any system restore points i can use and i can a check disk that did nothing. i wanted to try turning it back to factory settings and backing up my files but when i tried to do the file back up and it was creating the back up files i got an error that says "HP Recovery Manager failed. Error code = FFFFFF0C."

My HP laptop has been running slow and crashing for a few days. I downloaded and ran malwarebytes but it didn't find anything. My AVG 2011 stopped working yesterday and now tonight the laptop won't even start up in safe mode. Its launching straight into windows, then into system repair, which fails.

my laptop is restarting itself on windows (7, 64-bit) start up. Sometimes it manages to fully load up but then within 10 minutes it will suddenly restart.I can load safe mode with no issues and even after running it for a period of time it does not seem to shut down. I tried starting it up only the basic microsoft startup services but it still crashed.I've run chkdsk, startup repair and some hardware memory diagnostic thing and they all came back fine.Laptop has been in to get serviced and they told me they found nothing wrong with it and sent it back. I start it up and within 5 seconds of it trying to load windows it restarts. also, I've tried to reinstall windows but it freezes during installation.
Here are some system specs:
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601)
System Manufacturer: Toshiba
System Model: Satellite A300
Processer: Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 @2.40ghz
Memory: 4GB RAM

My laptop has Windows 7 installed. My Toshiba Satellite L650 started slowing down and freezing every hour or so while for a few weeks which progressively got more often. I thought it was the new modem/router the cable company installed and maybe got a bad virus. I purchased Norton 2012 and after talking w/Toshiba support did a system restore by holding down the "0" button. This seemed to work but not for long, a week later the same issues were occurring. I did another system restore and it worked for a couple of days. Chkdsk did find bad clusters. Now start up repair keeps trying to fix it when I turn it on but it can't.I have ordered a new hard drive from Tiger Direct a few days ago, it is on back order, not sure when I'll get it.I'm afraid to use the start up repair disk that I made on the new hard drive when it does come.My questions are: is there any other way I should be going about fixing this 14 month old laptop? Also, I don't have the original software disks, they didn't come with the computer so I either have to order a copy from Toshiba or should I use that repair disk? Can software cause an issue like this?

Yesterday i accidentally dropped my laptop (HP Pavilion G6) and the battery fell out, it was plugged in at the time. It didnt fall from much of a height so i thought it would be ok. Upon starting it up again it came to a black screen asking if i wanted to use startup repair or start up normally. i swear i clicked on start up normally but it chose startup repair regardless. I left it overnight on the startup repair function as i heard it could take a long time for the program to run.

I have a Dell Inspiron N4010 running Windows 7. Last night I was printing off PDF files and listening to a CD when the song that was playing got stuck and the print job I'd just ordered stalled. Then a horrible, loud, relentless sort of whirring noise came out of the speakers and wouldn't stop and the computer was completely unresponsive. This has happened before, last December, and I did what I did then...I just forcibly shut it down. When I started it back up, I could choose between starting normally or running Startup Repair, which was recommended. I swear I chose to start normally, but I can't be totally sure. I walked out of the room to do a couple things and when I went back I saw Startup Repair running and it said it could take over an hour. I had to leave for work in 20 minutes, so I decided to just leave it on. 9 hours later, when I got home, it was STILL going. I tried to cancel, and was informed that the current operation could not be canceled. I forced a shut down again (maybe not the brightest thing but I couldn't think of anything else) and even disconnected the battery. Then I started it up...got the same choice and chose to start Windows...and Startup Repair started again. I managed to cancel and shut down with the OFF button again. Restarted and chose Windows...same thing. Restarted and chose Setup Repair, same result. I cannot do or open anything. I don't know if putting the startup discs in it would even register...and I'm not sure I even have any, as Windows 7 came pre-installed. I haven't backed up my hard drive in a loooong time and I can't afford a new machine.

I turned on my laptop this morning after hibernation and said there was a fatal error coming out of hibernation, so I turned it off and chose "Launch Startup Repair" which was recommended, instead of "Start Windows Normally." After about half an hour it looked as though all had been fixed after a system restore. However, on restarting my laptop everything went slowly, start up was slower than usual. I couldn't open anything on the desktop or click the start menu without it freezing. After getting sick of this, I clicked shut down which also took forever as well.

i have a hp pavilion dv3 laptop, 13.3", which runs on windows 7. it has an intel core i5 and 4 gb of ram with 500 gb of memory. it's very new - i only bought it about a month ago, and up until a few hours ago it was running fine. it has been very fast and responsive, and i was careful to not download a load of junk or anything that might slow it down. i used it this morning and it was fine, but since i turned it on this afternoon it has suddenly begun running slowly. when i turn it on i can enter my password and get into my user account, and everything loads fine, but when i try to do anything it will just freeze up and refuse to respond. i can't even right-click and refresh, or click on the taskbar. i just get that little blue spinning circle to infinity.the laptop is running okay in safe mode, which i am in right now. i'm trying to rack my brains to remember what i could have done to mess it up, but nothing comes to mind. last night i downloaded aim, but that didn't seem to have changed anything this morning. when i used the laptop before it started freezing, all i did was watch a few Internet videos and then turn it off again.
when i realised it was freezing, the first thing i did was to turn it off and restart in safe mode. i went to control panel and removed the password to my user account (irrationally, i was getting paranoid about being locked out), which i hope didn't confuse the poor laptop. i then restored it to an earlier date 2 days ago, but it still froze about three minutes after turning it on, and my password was still enabled. after that i went to start > run > msconfig and disabled all the startup items, but the laptop still continued to freeze upon startup. then i unplugged the battery and just ran off the power switch, but it's still freezing! then i started to despair and tried to run a registry cleanup, but i figured it just looked like a scam or a virus so i decided otherwise. i use avast! free antivirus, and i ran a scan, but that didn't find anything.unfortunately, i live in a very hot, dusty country. recently quite a lot of dust was getting into the room where i keep my laptop. i was worried that the laptop might have been getting dust inside it. but i have another older laptop which doesn't seem to be affected at all?i did make backup discs when i first got the laptop, but i only want to use them as a very last resort.
