View 4 Replies View RelatedI have 2 laptops, the one mentioned here Supervirus and a new one. I was trying to see if swapping the hard drives would fix it, but it didn't. So I swapped them back and when I tried to turn on the new working computer I keep getting a BSOD flash for a split second before it crashes the laptop. I have many many important photos and school papers etc on it and I want to recover them ASAP. But I can't even log into the laptop because it will show the loading windows 7 animation for a few seconds, freeze, and do the BSOD then crash. I have a computer that I can use to burn any cd's or flash drives or w/e but I need to get those documents off the laptop. When I tried to do system restore the first time didn't work and gave me an error code. The second time it worked but when I tried to boot up the same thing happened.

Opening with no add ons had no change. I uninstalled IE9 only to find the problem stayed, IE8 32 crashes and IE8 64 bit works fine. The no add on for IE8 has no change. Running either as "Runas Admin" no change. Also resetting IE had no change. Logging in as Administrator and running it had no change. Creating a new user and attempting to run it had no change. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have Windows 7 (64bit) and for a while now, when I'm playing Solitaire and click on the Deck to draw a card, sometimes the Solitaire window will flash and in the taskbar, the Solitaire icon moves/shifts to the right briefly. If I click on the deck a second or third time, it'll be just fine. I've also seen the same issue when playing Chess.
I thought it might be an issue with the window getting/loosing focus but I'm not sure what or where to check...any ideas?
I just completed a fresh install of Windows 7 on my Dell XPS 17. For some reason, when the computer is on battery power and is idle, the screen will flicker. Basically if I am on battery power, the moment I stop typing or using the mouse, the screen will flicker after about a second. Then as soon as I resume using the computer, it will flicker again. It will also flash at random other times... Only when on battery power (so far).As I mentioned, I just completed a fresh install of windows 7 after reformatting my drive because of virus issues. I did have some issues with getting drivers installed and still have have that are missing (see attached photo). I have not been able to get these drivers to install. One thought I had is that the screen issue may be a result of improperly installed graphics drivers? Just a thought. System Info:

1) Aero turned on.
2) web page is scrolled using the scroll wheel
SYMPTOM: a very brief total blanking of the firefox window--just the webpage area--not the tabs, menu, borders, etc.
If I use the scroll bar instead of the mouse, no problem. If I turn off aero, then I can use the mouse scroll wheel and no problem. Browse with IE--no problem either.
Something wacky going on with the mouse driver?
This issue has happened with several Nvidia drivers put out in 2009.
Anyone else having this trouble with Firefox and scrolling with mouse wheel, with Aero enabled? If so, what video card do you have? Mine is an Nvidia 6800.
Apologies if this has been covered, I have tried looking but can't find any previous mention, although having used this excellent forum for a few months this is my first posting, so sorry if I am not doing this correctly !
I have carried out a clean install of Win 7 Home Rremium (retail full version) on a new hard drive. The problem that I have noticed is that when you are in Computer Management, you can view everything OK apart from Disk Management when you view this it works OK but when you then try to view any other menu (Event Viewer, Device Manager etc.),
the text on the screen flashes like it was refreshing, however it continues to do so until you exit. If you then go back in again and select anything other than Disk Management it works OK until you select Disk Management (which works OK), but on selecting another menu, the screen starts flashing again.
This only happens when you go from Disk Management to something else.
I have reinstalled my old Vista hard drive and everything works OK, so I dont think that it is a hardware issue, but something with Windows 7.
Out of the blue, my interent will stop working and flash at me. The flashing occurs on internet explorer 8. Google chrome will not work at all. I have reinstalled internet explorer and set everything to default settings. I have tried repairing my connection and nothing seems to work.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a folder in My Documents that doesn't open up (other folders in my computer works fine). I double click on it and it makes that clicking sound and flashes for a sec but nothing opens up. I can only look at what's in the folder by using Word 2007 then open and select all files. I scanned it with AVG and there's no virus. Most of the stuff in there are not downloaded, it's mainly documents which I typed on this computer, and the few things that have been downloaded I have opened before and there never seemed to be a problem until recently. I made a copy of the folder to an external hard drive and funnily that opens up. I tried to delete the original folder in my documents but it says folder in use and won't let me delete it.

How do I find out if I have malware, virus and or browser is jacked? My prairie form cleaner shows me my computer is collecting large files or daily activity. Also, I want to know if my computer is recording, how can I tell? I want to make sure the back door is closed. I have scanned with Norton, Windows Defender, Avast and AVG over the time and I have had at least 4 items to return. 3 items were removed 1 quarantined and I have done restores since then.

The problem is, a while back I got this virus called Wolfram Antivirus software, and tried to do everything I could to remove it. It was a pain. The thing is, I think I might have accidentally deleted something in RegEdit, and now my computer (on the ultra rare occasion that it gets to and past the login screen) will tell me that it has encountered a critical error, and will restart in 1 minute. When it does reboot, what will happen, is it will get to the picture of the swirling Windows symbol, but then reboot before making it to login screen. Then it will ask me to do a system repair or start up normally, because it shut down unusually
View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed Windows 7 on new computer. Some programs start up minimized most of the time - but not always. At least Mozilla Thunderbird and Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 keep doing that to name a few. The shortcut properties have "Run" as "Normal window" for both programs. I think I've also tried closing them with Ctrl pressed as suggested somewhere.
As for other similar problems, I get occasional problems with opening windows from the taskbar groups. The window shows up nicely when hovering over the thumbnail picture of the taskbar group, but when I select it, it just flashes on the top and then disappears / goes back behind other windows. Alt-tabbing seems to work flawlessly, but it'd be nice to be able to use the taskbar too.
I've noticed later that Alt-Tabbing doesn't work always either. They suggested me to try and pin software to taskbar at bleeping computer. Both Thunderbird and Premiere have started normally when launched with the pinned icon instead of the desktop shortcuts. That's not the real solution though and the problem remains at least with Windows Media Player. It goes often minimized when launched by double clicking a video file on explorer.
I did a search on your site and found Toasty's post (Programs start Minimized, will *NOT* maximize.). Also it said in some post that you should press Alt when closing. I'll try that next time the problem occurs, but I doubt it's the solution as the programs sometimes open normally and sometimes don't. Either way there's also the problem with the taskbar...
after reformatting my windows 7, my sony laptop came up with a weird screen problem. I have updated/re-installed graphic cards etc and even reformatted and same problem. Before the reformatting it didn't use to happen.Basically this happens:Right after "Starting Windows" boot screen and animation finishes, It flashes a bunch of small colored dotted distortions at the top of the screen. It only flashes this once right before the Log in Screen. No other problems occur after that.Tried "No GUI Boot" still didnt fix it.I assume the backlight/inverter is failing?

I put in my login password and Windows begins to load. While Windows is loading it just reezes. The only thing I can say is it freezes after most of the applications load but it's still searching for networks. Straight freezenothing works. However, and this was weird, out of the 4 or 5 times it froze last night, one of the times I was still able to move the mouse. Nothing else worked though. My drivers should be up to date. I do check them and update them as needed.I do regular checks for viruses and spyware. I use free programs that are updated regularly.I "clean up" my system on somewhat regular basis.I defragment the hard drive on a somewhat regular basis.I clean my registry regularly.I deleted the programs that start up with the computer that I don't need. Winamp, my spyware scanner, and this clean-your-PC program I downloaded (see below) no result I recently got suckered into one of those clean your PC programs that cost like 20 bucks. That's the only major program I've downloaded recently. I did a system restore to before I downloaded that and the same problem occurred. The computer works fine in safe mode. Even "with networking" it connects to the internet just fine.I did just realize I didn't do a virus scan in safe mode last night, I'll do that when I get home tonight. But if you guys know a good free virus scanner to use let me know, otherwise I'll follow up if the virus scan fixes it.
