Win 7 on Dell Vostro 64 bit os sp1.Anti Virus: Norton Security Suite 5.1.0.29, Ie 9 is where the issue started if opened it would close instantly. the 64 bit version is / was fine. Opening with no add ons had no change. I uninstalled IE9 only to find the problem stayed, IE8 32 crashes and IE8 64 bit works fine. The no add on for IE8 has no change. Running either as "Runas Admin" no change. Also resetting IE had no change. Logging in as Administrator and running it had no change. Creating a new user and attempting to run it had no change. One other issue that might be related I can not uninstall Java 6 update 25, it states the MSI is missing and I cant find a copy any where to remove or re install and remove.
I updated all my drivers using DriverMax and then verified those uploads against Intel's updated driver support scan. Both agreed with each other on the updates and that all was well. It was some week later when I was working and closed the lid on my HP dv7 (Win 7 Home Premium) opened it again within 10 seconds and ever since the screen simply doesn't come back after closing the lid. I have set all power options to Max Performance, turned off Hibernation and Sleep with no change in outcome. Checked the updated BIOS (updated via OM Intel site) and no applicable (or at least identified) power settings found.
I have Windows 7 (64bit) and for a while now, when I'm playing Solitaire and click on the Deck to draw a card, sometimes the Solitaire window will flash and in the taskbar, the Solitaire icon moves/shifts to the right briefly. If I click on the deck a second or third time, it'll be just fine. I've also seen the same issue when playing Chess.
I thought it might be an issue with the window getting/loosing focus but I'm not sure what or where to check...any ideas?
I have a different problem with COM Surrogate. I noticed something wasn't right when I got random freeze-ups playing audiosurf which is sensitive to CPU usage. I opened task manager and saw about every 15 seconds, there is a spike in the CPU usage. I checked the processes and saw dllhost.exe (COM Surrogate) is opening up and closing in just a few seconds, and repeats this about every 15 seconds which is eating my CPU. I do NOT get any error messages anywhere. I can view photos just fine. HOWEVER, I do see that any new photos' or videos' thumbnails are not updating. Any videos and photos I had before this problem have thumbnails, but not any new ones I create. I am running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.
recently i noticed this pops up every time i start my pc and im not sure what it ioutedit forgot to mention it usally closes itself about 30 seconds after i start my pc but today it doesn't close itself and i cant end the process if this is in the wrong section im sorry i was a bit worried and just licked windows 7
When I close the lid of my laptop, and then reopen it sometime after, the screen is black. Power light is on, I can here sounds, such as plugging in a usb device, but is black. I just restart it and its back, but I shouldn't have to do that every time.
I just completed a fresh install of Windows 7 on my Dell XPS 17. For some reason, when the computer is on battery power and is idle, the screen will flicker. Basically if I am on battery power, the moment I stop typing or using the mouse, the screen will flicker after about a second. Then as soon as I resume using the computer, it will flicker again. It will also flash at random other times... Only when on battery power (so far).As I mentioned, I just completed a fresh install of windows 7 after reformatting my drive because of virus issues. I did have some issues with getting drivers installed and still have have that are missing (see attached photo). I have not been able to get these drivers to install. One thought I had is that the screen issue may be a result of improperly installed graphics drivers? Just a thought. System Info:
SYMPTOM: a very brief total blanking of the firefox window--just the webpage area--not the tabs, menu, borders, etc.
If I use the scroll bar instead of the mouse, no problem. If I turn off aero, then I can use the mouse scroll wheel and no problem. Browse with IE--no problem either.
Something wacky going on with the mouse driver?
This issue has happened with several Nvidia drivers put out in 2009.
Anyone else having this trouble with Firefox and scrolling with mouse wheel, with Aero enabled? If so, what video card do you have? Mine is an Nvidia 6800.
Apologies if this has been covered, I have tried looking but can't find any previous mention, although having used this excellent forum for a few months this is my first posting, so sorry if I am not doing this correctly !
I have carried out a clean install of Win 7 Home Rremium (retail full version) on a new hard drive. The problem that I have noticed is that when you are in Computer Management, you can view everything OK apart from Disk Management when you view this it works OK but when you then try to view any other menu (Event Viewer, Device Manager etc.),
the text on the screen flashes like it was refreshing, however it continues to do so until you exit. If you then go back in again and select anything other than Disk Management it works OK until you select Disk Management (which works OK), but on selecting another menu, the screen starts flashing again.
This only happens when you go from Disk Management to something else.
I have reinstalled my old Vista hard drive and everything works OK, so I dont think that it is a hardware issue, but something with Windows 7.
Out of the blue, my interent will stop working and flash at me. The flashing occurs on internet explorer 8. Google chrome will not work at all. I have reinstalled internet explorer and set everything to default settings. I have tried repairing my connection and nothing seems to work.
WINDOWS 7, hard drive flashes once per second and hard drive is running all the time for days now. Have eliminated everything I can think of that could cause this, but on it goes.
I have a Dell Inspiron 15 with Windows 7 laptop. Recently, it has been "acting up". I will be online using internet explorer and be writing an email, looking at a web page, or on facebook, and the page just closes by itself. At first I thought I must be hitting something to make the screen close, but the problem continues. It's really a pain when you're searching for something, and you've followed several links, only to have the screen you want to look at close for no reason at all. What's up with that?
Recently I have gotten a new issue. I will be doing something basic on the computer, such as opening a new tab, or closing starcraft 2, and then suddenly all programs running will close. It gives no warnings, and it has nothing to do with the specs of my computer. I have 8 gigs of ram, a 2 gig gtx 560 and a 3.2 ghz 8 core processor. One out of the 5 times it has happened, it said "facebook messenger has stopped working correctly" or something.
My problem is that I my HTPC drops the HDMI connection when I exit media center.
When I am in 7MC I can play all my ripped DVDs, Blu-rays, and music. But when Media Center closes (or in window mode) the HDMI connection drops off. I can see the "No Signal" messeage in the Onkyo display as soon as 7MC closes, and it reconnects again when 7MC opens. I need the connection to say active so I can have sound with NetFlix (apparently it runs outside of media Center even though I launch it in 7MC).
why my HDMI connection is dependant on 7MC running?

when I wanted to save my word closes and now lost all my work i have typed normally there would show a window of my last working files that it can bring some of it back before the 10minutes but cant find that window that pop's up anymore.
I have two computers running Windows 7 x64. On both of them, whenever I try to open a command line program it closes after a fraction of a second. This happens when I use ipconfig, and hldsupdatetool. This only started happening recently, sometime in the last few weeks, and I have no idea why.I am aware that I can use cmd and then type ipconfig, but this doesn't work for hldsupdatetool, and it takes much longer than just double clicking or typing ipconfig in the start menu search.
Whenever i press the any of the 2 letters before C.. My web page closes.. This happens in all the browsers.. (mo*illa and chrome and IE) Im using Win 7
My mouse pointer is flashing busy everytime it shows the regular icon and no problem noted while inside textbox.I performed a full scan. The antivirus installed is McAfee and I also have MBAM installed in my system.System is windows 7 6gb RAM Intel core i5 processor. Mine is comparatively a new one. I read a thread for a similar issue and ended up disabling services.msc. But now also am facing the same issue.
I have a folder in My Documents that doesn't open up (other folders in my computer works fine). I double click on it and it makes that clicking sound and flashes for a sec but nothing opens up. I can only look at what's in the folder by using Word 2007 then open and select all files. I scanned it with AVG and there's no virus. Most of the stuff in there are not downloaded, it's mainly documents which I typed on this computer, and the few things that have been downloaded I have opened before and there never seemed to be a problem until recently. I made a copy of the folder to an external hard drive and funnily that opens up. I tried to delete the original folder in my documents but it says folder in use and won't let me delete it.

I bought this laptop nearly 2 years ago and it's been giving me tons of issues as of late, It flashes and will occasionally crash during games (ex: DOW2, Global Agenda, ME2) The flashing will also happen occasionally happen outside of games and is nearly guaranteed a BSOD within 15 minutes or less from World of Warcraft
When I'm playing certain video games, like Battlefield Play4Free, sometimes, my computer lag spikes and then my screen flashes black. Then the lag's gone. After that, in the tray notification area, I get a message saying, "Display driver Igfx stopped responding and successfully recovered".
I have made a word game in notepad and saved it off as a batch file. Whenever I open this batch file it flashes onto the screen for a second and then goes away.
