Take Windows 7 OEM Version Back Up To External Hard Disc?

I bought Asus laptop recently, with that i got windows 7 OEM OS already installed, but i didn't have any recovery disc or something like that...i've googled out, but i am confused with taking system image backup and with taking recovery disc optionswhat is the difference between those two?what i want is, I want to take the current windows OS as one image (bootable iso image or something like that) so that i can install it, if my windows 7 crashes anytime in future. so that it works as it is in the present state.how to make the bootable image to an external hard disc,

My Acer netbook has developed some kind of fault and I am unsure as to what I ought to do. The netbook does boot to BIOS and also will boot up from an external drive...but will not boot normally. I am thinking of replacing the hard drive but don't know if there could be something else wrong. It says sometimes that it can't read it and from this I am not sure if there is something else wrong. If I change the drive does it sound as though things will work? There are also a couple of other intermittent faults such as certain letters and numbers not working and then everything is fine for a while...

I purchased a Silicon Power Rugged Armor A80 external hard drive to back up my computer & I can't get it to work. When I try to back up MY Documents, it scans the files, then the window says "wrong input" & "access denied".I have been trying to get help from Silicon Power customer service, but they haven't been able to shed any light on my problem. I'm running Windows 7 Professional & have Norton Internet Security. Could there be some kind of incompatibility with my OS or Norton that's preventing access to the files?

Recently my laptop crashed beyond repair, and has had to be rebuilt. It now operates on Windows 7.Luckily I had backed up some important files onto a portable external Lacie Hardrive. I now need to return some of the files back to the laptop so that I can use them..but I can't seem to find a way to do it!! I suppose I'm just being 'thick'..but can anyone tell me how to do it.

I wanted to make a new partition on my hp laptop on the only disc it as.Unfortunately,because it came with already 4 partitions I accidentally turned the disk into a dynamic disk.Now its booting normally but I cant load the system Image that I have created before the partition.Other than that the pc is running smoothly.As I said this is the only disk on the system.Is it possible to convert the disk back to basic?After a lot of googling I found some exmples but all of them assumed you had a second disk on your system.Is it possible to convert the disk back to basic without having to reinstall windows?(I have no windows cd

I have a USB external hard drive that I keep all my documents etc on (had it for years)I upgraded from Vista Home to & Home Premium then had to upgrade recently to Professional to run my Sage. Through all these upgrades my ext. drive ran fine. Occasionally the drvie letter would change if I had something else plugged into the USB, this was always easily corected in disk management by changing the drive path.The connection on the case packed up so I had to get the drive put into a new case, now when I plug it in the drive is assigned G instead of F, I tried to change the drive letter allocation in Disk Management but it won't let me as the program still thinks I have a second ext. hard drive which is labelled F. I suspect this has happened because when the usb connection broke the drive was disconnected suddenly instead of a proper eject.How do I get Disk Management to remove the inactive drive - i can't find any obvious way - eject, delete etc are all missing when I click on tools or tasks.

I have installed new windows 7, on my previous windows 7. Till that, I have saved my important files in Local disc D. Windows is installed on local disc C. But previous windows version moved moved to D disk. And my files, that were in D disk, have lost. What can I do for moving back my files, which are very important for me??

I borrowed photo dvd slideshow program named Photo DVD Maker about two years ago. The version I always use is 8.20 but recently it promoted me to upgrade, so I upgrade to the latest 8.51 version. In fact, I don't like this version, because I am not familiar with the buttons position and I don't want to spend time on finding these options. So I'd like to go back to my old version, BUT I can't find it on my computer. I've taken the HDD out of an old iMac and put it in a USB caddy. I use HFS Explorer to access it from my work XP laptop and can retrieve files off it easily.I've bought a new Windows 7 desktop and want to do the same thing, however when I plug it in it's not recognised in Explorer. I go to Disk Management and it suggests I have to initialize it before it can be accessed, but I don't want to format it, just use HFS explorer to get some files off it. I didn't have to do any of this on my XP laptop - it worked first time as soon as I plugged the external drive in?

A few months ago after a hard-drive meltdown I purchased a new Hewlett-Packard computer, with Windows 7 HP (64 bit) as the operating system. The tech who installed the computer said I should be fine to back-up to my Phillips 1 GB external hard-drive using the back-up facility provided with Windows 7 HP. I have made a few attempts to do so, all unsuccessful so far. Each time I get a fairly vague 'generic' error message (0x81000001), which does not really provide specific information:
Check your back-up:
Windows back-up encountered an internal error. Please review your settings and re-try the operation (It then gives the options of re-trying the back-up or changing the settings). I soon realised after my first failed attempt that my hard-disk space precluded me from backing up a system image, so I configured the back-up facility not to include one- but still the back-ups failed. My hard disk drives are thus:
(C) OS: 207 GB free of 919 GB
(D) HP- Recovery (1.45 GB free of 11.9 GB)
(G)'Elements' external HD- 1.20 MB of 298 GB (Basically this is an old back-up of my C Drive to an External HD, the capacity of which soon made it woefully inadequate for my back-up needs!)
(I) Phillips 1 TB external hard drive (921 GB free of 931 GB)

1. My sister has a Dell Dimension 5100 desktop computer with Windows XP from the factory. Can I put the Windows 7 UPGRADE version on a second hard drive in her machine? Is this OK or do I need the 'FULL' version?
2. Is this automatically going to create two options when booting the machine, giving her the options to boot either into XP or W7?

I have two Internal Hard disc's... one is 1TB, and another one is 500GB. I wanna know if there's any problem if I install Windows 7 in 1TB and win XP in the 500GB hard disc and put both in one PC. Could I be able to choose which one to start during boot after that, like in Linux?

I was working with two drives and mixed them up on a format. What is on the drive isn't essential, but it would be nice to see what was lost, so I can go from there. Can anyone recommend a way to get it back? It just happened and I haven't put anything else on the drive since it happened. Hit Quick Format, and stopped the formatting about 10 seconds into it, sucks

I am trialing Macrium Reflect because of its good reputation. I have a simple requirement. Backup to external hard drive (WD Passport), it is USB 2.0. Then use the Windows PE rescue CD to boot up and restore from external HDD. I have been researching this. I know about the lack of USB 3.0 support. But my drive is USB 2.0.

I am building a brand new system and I am going with a pretty decent SSD as my main drive and in the past even my traditional hard drives have failed where my OS install was causing me much stress because I lose work and time.
What software would you recommend to back up (clone) my Windows 7 install onto another hard drive. I would want the automated software to do this on a nightly bases. So if my main system drive fails I can point the boot disk to the "backup" drive and proceed as normal.

if you go to "my computer" you will see your hdd status has a blue bar that displays what data is used up and how much free data you have left.anyway i renamed by external hdd and the blue display bar is gone. i still can right click on on my external and at the bottom it shows up the status, but the blur bar is gone.i had another external and it happen, i jsut formatted and the blue status bar was there again.is there anyway to get the blue status bar without formatting my external hdd?

How do I stop the screen resolution from reverting back to 800 x 600 when switching to external monitor? Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator Driver for Mobile thinks the optimal resolution is 800 x 600 when it's actually 1024 x 768. How do I make it see 1024 x 768 as the optimal resolution and make it the default for the external monitor?

The hard disk of my Gateway NV78 notebook pre-installed with Windows 7 HP has crashed. I have made the recovery discs in 3 DVDs . I will be buying a new hard disk. I would like to know whether it is possible to install Windows 7 HP on the new hard disc from the recovery discs or I have to go in for a new installation disc.

So I had the power go off while I was running bitlocker (to go?) on my external hdd. I was not able to pause it before this happened. I was also running BL on an internal drive. Both were interrupted. I was able to resume and finish the internal drive. I was not able to resume the external. The BL application just stop responding when I try to resume/unlock the disk. It also seems I can't restart the machine normally when BL is trying to unlock the drive.
I read somewhere on the ms support site that even with power failure, resuming is possible. This might have only applied to an internal drive. I do recall seeing the pause button for the external, with a note that I needed to pause to stop in case of data corruption or something like that. Is there a way to recover my external? Do I need to let the program "not respond" for the same time or maybe longer than the time it spent encrypting it? Could I remove the drive and make it an internal?

I noticed that Windows 7 takes a bit longer to read my photo & video files specially those in my external hard drive. I have to wait for that green bar on top to completely fill-up before accessing my files. Usually takes about 2-3 minutes for each folder. My other laptop which runs on XP displays the files quickly.
