View 4 Replies View RelatedGot a question for you all. Ok so my windows 7 disc has gone walkabout, but I've got a copy of the contents of the disc on my PC (as in copy paste of the contents of the DVD) but I am unsure of how to make this into a bootable disc.
I can copy all the files to a USB drive after making it bootable with some command line work and just boot from USB and install it from there on my PC, but I want to be able to make a dvd to install it from also, to maybe bootcamp it on my Mac, yet I'm unaware of exactly how to do this, so if anyone could share some insight it would be much appreciated.
I have just attached another screen to my Vaio.i used the Dual monitor setup windows 7 offers change the appearance of your displays.I chose the "extended these displays" my problem happened after applying the new settings my laptop screen went up side down while my new monitor went blue screen.how can i get my laptop screen back to normal?
View 14 Replies View RelatedI was trying to make it so I could see where my appdata folder was in my user folder and now my PC name folder that was in "users" is no longer there. My user folder had the name of my computer on it with a lock symbol. I entered that folder, found that appdata wasn't showing yet. So I right clicked on the empty space in window, selected properties and at the bottom checked the box "hidden" in the attributes section (thinking this would show the hidden folders), then I think I clicked okay. Some processing took place and then the processing stopped mid way and a message came up (I forget exactly what it said) it asked me to give administrator permission to do something. I then noticed the advanced button next to attritributes and thought maybe I was supposed to enable hidden folders in there, and that enabling hidden attributes may have been a mistake, so I cancelled out of the process midway at the point where I was asked for administrator permission. Now my PC-name user folder has disappeared.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy old computer I know had a partition with some bootable software where you could boot into it and it would then copy Windows back from a restore if you had a problem It was called like PCAngel or something I can't remember the exact name and can't find it But I'm looking for a bootable sort of software that I can store on the last partition of my HDD on my laptop and have an additional partition for storing system images. Like on the backup and restore thing on W7 you can make a"system repair disc", is there a way to make a restore disc but instead store it on a bootable partition? Basically I want to just store a system image on a seperate partition and leave it alone then some way on the computer to also be able to overwrite my old windows OS with this new clean system image whenever I want, without external discs or anything. I want it to work even if my disk drive and USB ports stop working, that's the important part

View 5 Replies View RelatedBasically, I turned on my laptop and it automatically went on Safe mode and I can't get back to normal. The screen is also blurry and instead of the taskbar I can see the top of the screen...eugh.. If you get me. Should I reinstall my Windows? p.s. I don't have a disk for it, so I guess I will have to download a ISO or something. Will this get everything back to normal?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have two HD drives, one SATA and one IDE, plus one SATA CD/DVD drive. Firstly I used to have XP on the SATA and Windows 7 on the IDE, but the IDE drive is smaller and slower and I wanted to essentially swap them over. The boot devices are set in the bios as CD/DVD first, SATA second, IDE third.
So I have installed XP first on the IDE and now Windows 7 on the SATA, but after I removed the Windows 7 DVD and restarted it is refusing to boot saying NO BOOT DEVICE DETECTED, INSERT SYSTEM DISK. Now if I place the Windows 7 dvd in the drive and ignore the PRESS ANY KEY TO BOOT FROM CD/DVD...., it will book fine.
This will surely fustrate non-technical users no end and some may not even think to try and replace the OS disk and try again. I think I know what has happened, but more importantly how do I go and fix it to just boot without needing a damn boot disk everytime!?
I had a little problem with my computer opening .exe file. I had it made by mistake to open with Adobe Reader, but I managed to fix the opening part, but icons on the desktop still show the Adobe Reader sign.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a laptop that i often connect to a tv screen. When i am just using the laptop screen i keep the dpi value to its normal default setting, but inceease it when i connect it to the tv so things are easier to read. When i disconnect from the tv and go back to the laptop screen everything is too big bevause of the increased dpi,i set it back to its default settings. However when i do this everything is rediculously small and sometimes impossible to read. Even setting a larger dpi from this point creates text that is too small. I cant go higher from this point because it also makes my windows too big. Does anyone know how i can get back my normal text size with a default setting of 100% dpi?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have Windows 7 on a AMD Phenom Machine. Hard Drive died so I put another one in and restored Windows with Acronis True Image.
When I leave the Windows repair disk in the drive, the restored system starts perfectly, runs perfectly etc. But if I pull that repair disk out of the drive I get this error about "No Bootable Device" "Insert Disc". So in other words that repair disk has to be in the drive, else I get the error.
I have already:
1. Verified that the boot sequence points to my Windows Drive
2. Run system repair. That's useless. It just tells me everything is fine.
3. Run bootrec fixmbr, vixboot, rebuildbcd. No problems found
4. Run Chkdsk. No problems found.
For some reason, my start menu has suddenly become ridiculously tall, spanning the entire height of the screen. This image might give a better idea: imgur: the simple image sharer.
I have no idea how or why this happened. I tried searching for the problem, but I can't find a single thing even remotely related. My recent items count is at 0, so it's nothing to do with that. I've already tried fiddling about with the setting for that, but with no success at all. I tried a system restore to before this occurred, but this had absolutely no effect either. It's only affecting this profile, and no others (although, really, the only others are guest or temp accounts).
Basically what happens is there's a sudden slowdown in computer performance. For example if I'm listening to a live stream, watching a video, or playing a game it will suddenly all go into slow motion for a few seconds and then return to normal speed. I know it's more of a global problem because I can see it happening with other programs, too. When a web page is loading the load speed may suddenly go very slowly for a few seconds, or even if I'm typing in Microsoft Word I'll keep hitting keys, and the keystrokes will be logged, but no words will appear for a few seconds and then it will suddenly have to catch up.
What I've tried to do: A friend suggested my CPU was overloaded, but I checked my CPU usage and it's always quite low, as in below 50% as far as I've ever seen. Someone else suggested defragmenting my hard drive, which I did using TuneUp Utilities, but if anything that made the problem worse, because now in addition to slowing down sometimes things will just stop for a few seconds, or web pages will time out but when I reload them they work fine. My machine: I'm using a Lenovo Ideapad, intel Core i7, 4 GB RAM.
Sitting here in class and our professor was telling us admin it disabled by default in Vista/Windows 7 now for security reasons. I mentioned you can access it from a command prompt based program that comes in a bootable iso format you burn on disc.
I can not for the life of me remember what the name of that program was but a couple years ago I was working on a Win Vista system that got a virus that locked out the user by changing the user account passwords.
We Googled, found this program you burn on a CD and it brings up a menu that will allow you to reset the user account password, or log into the admin account.
I bought Asus laptop recently, with that i got windows 7 OEM OS already installed, but i didn't have any recovery disc or something like that...i've googled out, but i am confused with taking system image backup and with taking recovery disc optionswhat is the difference between those two?what i want is, I want to take the current windows OS as one image (bootable iso image or something like that) so that i can install it, if my windows 7 crashes anytime in future. so that it works as it is in the present state.how to make the bootable image to an external hard disc,

View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I have an bit of an odd and I think unique problem (as many searches came up with no solutions). Simply put, my boot manager is missing, but only when my windows install disc is not in the disc drive. It started several months ago and I just left it be, let the disc it int he disc drive and it was not that big of a deal. But just did a clean install couple days ago I re-installed windows 7 ultimate 64-bit on my computer (using an upgrade disc if that makes a difference).I formatted the drive with what I guess is a quick format (the option the install disc gives you). I have tried doing a repair with the install disc but no problems are found every time I try.

I have had my desktop a while, however it continues to frequently shutdown randomly for an unknown reason. Initially I suspected it was a bad PSU, so had it RMAd, however same problem exists. It should be providing plenty of power to the mobo and other devices being a 500W, however I read on other forums the particular model has tendancies to automatically shutdown at PEAK LOAD. Its a OCZ ModXStream Pro 500W. This is darn annoying if it is and may still be the problem. It might be another software or hardware issue though. I have fresh installed it before suspecting it was drivers, with default recognised drivers for GPU etc. However problem remains. All hard ware is compatible[CODE]
