I was just playing Gmod then all a sudden My computer crashed, it didn't BSOD just shut off. So i started it and my video-card is not working anymore neither is my dvi port on my mother board but VGA was still working. The fan on video-card still works so does the leds.
I have an Acer w/ 8gb of ram(Newly installed was 4gb) w/ a 1TB HDD. On idle it range's from about 16-20%(1200-1600mb) I've had a few windows open w/ music video's plying etc. and it's never gone past 28% that's why I think at idle its high.
Is this normal. I opened up task manager under memory and closed some thing's I didn't need but it still seems pretty high.
My issue is that my fan runs very loudly and does not turn off during idle/slow periods. I downloaded the speedfan program and this is how it looks currently. [URL]I don't think the difference between idle and running Chrome + Steam in the background would be enough to matter, so i'm not in a completely idle mode now. This is essentially my constant setup.I'm rather inept when it comes to these things so i'm really not sure if this is even a problem or not. I know that cpu fans are always running, but i can't imagine 2800-2900 rpm being an idle speed. My temperatures are stable(as far as i know) and they only get to about 45% during heavier cpu usage. I cleaned out the dust in the system, but i think i may have missed the heatsink or whatever itself.I have also heard that doing a disk cleanup and defragmentation can solve the issue of a fan running constantly, however, doing that did not seem to help.
Just recently I have started having the issue of too much RAM being used on both my desktop and laptop.I am by no means a novice when it comes to computers. The desktop is a custom build and the laptop is a $3600 workstation. Both systems have never given me this problem until I installed Microsoft Office 2013.I can data this problem as soon as I started using this version of office. However, new updates on Windows 7 cannot be ruled out as a possible issue so I am posting on the forums to see if anyone else is having similar issues.
Here are screenshots of task manager. As you can see, there is no program using more than 80MB of RAM. I cannot figure out what is occupying all the space. Could it be clipboard? This usually happens after I am done working on assignments (which require quite a bit of copying and pasting graphs in uncompressed TIFF format created in MATLAB).
Side note: After restarting my desktop, the system usually uses around 1.8GB RAM and laptop uses around the same. This issue is on both laptop and desktop.

I have Gb of ram and recently upgraded from 4gb. When i had 4gb it used 30% of ram when idle. I switched to 8gb and it is using 50% when idle. I used several virus detection softwares to see if that was it. It wasn't. NowIi am also finding programs such as firefox or java using ridiculkous amounts of ram. For example; I was using firefox and was just using google. Next thing I see is a message from windows saying to close firefox casue it using too much ram. I look at the processes to see how much ram and it will be using about 3.5Gb ram...
The issues come when I leave the PC overnight, idling, with the monitor physically turned off (I use the power button). When I come back in the morning and turn the monitor back on, there is a black screen and the PC won't wake.I have left the computer idling during the day for many hours with the monitor being in standby (PC turns it off, not me).Interestingly, when the PC "hangs" after the night I can still access stuff over the network, and play some videos on my TV which is DLNA-ed to it. Logs do not show any issues, in fact there is some logging going on all night meaning the PC isn't totally dead. However, I try plugging some USB devices in and out, but it doesn't make that USB recognition noise.
Things I have tried:
- playing around with power settings, ie. disabling USB turn-off, disabling ULPS on my vid card (ultra-low-power-savings mode), changing the screen turn-off times, turning sleep and hybernate/hybrid off
- note it is NOT a taskbar auto-hide issue. If you are having crashing problems after idling (still able to access PC for 10s of seconds before it freezes), be sure to check out information on the auto-hide of the taskbar
Other info:
- I run utorrent overnight As a test, I turned my monitor off (physically) during the day, and came back to a "hung" system. I think this may be the root of the issue but it's still driving me up a wall because it's such a weird problem. I have to keep trouble shooting the issue to be certain. Furthermore, my main concern, and the reason for writing this post, is that I want to make sure this is not some hardware issue that is later going to progressively get worse. To me it doesn't seem like a hardware thing, but maybe there are some experts out there who can shed some light.
hen the system is not heavily loaded it seems to freeze after 10 minutes to an hour, primarily observed with the Up Time clock in Task Manager stopping. Other symptoms include no response to keyboard or mouse clicks and having the cursor lock to a particular shape such as the window size adjustment shape. The only way I have found to get the system going again is to shutdown and reboot. Usually a hardware reset or forcing shutdown is required to get applications such as Task Manager to stop. When the system is heavily loaded i.e. running Prime95, these symptoms do not seem to occur.I have been unable to determine conclusively whether the problem is hardware or software. The system(s) are new with the following configuration[CODE]I have performed multiple clean installations of Windows 7 Pro from two different Microsoft DVDs (purchased from Newegg), used two different sets of hardware (including CPUs, memory, video cards, Power supplies, disks, etc.) changed from Gigabyte GA-X58-USB3 motherboards to GA-X58A-UD5 motherboards, run memory tests for ten hours or more, run in Safe mode, run with absolutely no additional software other that the virgin operating system. Tested multiple BIOS settings, including optimized defaults, with changes only to allow RAID disks.
This suddenly began occurring about a week ago. The system runs fine, however if it is left for a fairly short period of time (15-20 mins) The program am I using will freeze and the cursor will change to loading. The task bar will then freeze if I try and click 'start', and I have to hold down my Power button to turn the PC off. I have tried system restore, Defragmentation, and virus checks. Running out of ideas! I'm using x64 Windows 7, and my specs are as follows.
I've just bought a new system 2 days ago and am having freezing issues with my Windows 7 installation. The entire system would freeze up after being left idle for a while (~5-10 minutes). Usually the entire system would freeze completely when I return. On very few occassions, numlock would still work for a couple of times (before it stays on). Once, I managed to move the mouse cursor but it was really laggy and choppy before it froze up as well. I have already installed all Windows updates, newest BIOS, and drivers from manufacturer website. I'm not how else to go about fixing thiSpecs below: Asus P8B75-M Core i3-3220Crucial Ballistix Smart Tracer 8GB Kit (4GBx2) DDR3 PC3-14900Asus GeForce GTX650Antec EarthWatt EA-650WWD 1TB HDD On another note, I was also having some issues with my audio not working after a while before Window's update. The speakers would 'pop' before the sound either comes on or goes off. Either reboot or changing the sample rate in settings would cause the sound to return for a while before it goes off again. Installing Window's update seemed to have gotten rid of the problem (further testing needed as only installed today)
"idle" but it's even after I boot up.So RIGHT after I boot up I check the task manager to see how much RAM is being used, and it's ALMOST ALWAYS 45% or more (I have 3 GB of RAM in total, so this is using around 1.35-1.5 GB of RAM right after boot-up).I have already gone into my services thing and disabled all the things that I believed I wouldn't need or set it to manual, I have already deleted programs and files that I do not need, and I have blocked programs that I don't need from starting at boot. But even still, it uses that much RAM. What else can I do to use less RAM?(and my boot-up time is between 3 to 5 minutes. How can I speed this up?Pentium Dual-Core E6600)
just built a comp asus sabertooth x58 mb i7 950 wd hd 1tb 64mb cash sata600/6g .ocz psu 500watt nvidia 9800gt . what i have going on is if I leave the comp on just let it stand. when i come back after a few hours the comp is off.I hit the power button it come on to the boot in safe mode or start windows normal, the comp is 2 weeks old and for fans cpu is stock, 200mm on top, 120s on frt, side, and rear

Is the Windows defrag running in idle? I think it is a new feature since Vista right? I have checked it and my sytem drive is 16% fragmented. I have waited with performance monitor on for an half hour and there where no harddisk access from defrag?
I recently installed Windows 7 coming from XP. My on board sound is turned off while idle. There is no option in power management to disable this nor is it available in the device manger settings. My motherboard is an ASUS M4A87TD EVO with VIA VT1818 on board audio.
I'm trying to make my computer to start a task when it goes idle, and then kill it when i start using the computer again. I tried for the first time windows scheduler, idle options are there but it doesn't work (beats me why).
I already tried third party tools and i was able to make an app to start when the computer goes idle but not to kill it when the computer is being used again
I'm having a problem where windows utilizes 30% of CPU usage even when Idle. The problem starts when i open a program like games or any intensive application that requires alot of CPU load. But after closing the program, i noticed in my taskbar that windows generates and continues to use up to 30% of CPU load on other applications for example Dwm.exe (desktop windows management) but if i stop DWN.exe from taskbar, another program or service will replace it and generates the same CPU load, if i stop that another will take its place like svchost or the taskbar.exe itself getting a 25 to 27 cpu load. Its like an ongoing cycle or Loop of CPU usage, its supposed to stop after closing programs.I already have done steps i thought would clear this problem and these are:
Registry fix ran Avast Anti-virus reset BIOS ran anti malware programs ran Msconfig and disabled unwanted programs running on the background ran windows 7 update updated all my drivers
Summary:The problem still persist. This problem doesnt occur after boot, everything is fine with my system idle getting 97%. it only starts after i ran a program that utilizes high CPU load but after closing it, the heavy CPU load continues by replacing the closed program with another either dwm.exe,taskmanager.exe,svchost.exe..etc
I am have a problem with my windows 7 pc. My computer goes to the log on screen (enter password) if it sits idle for about 50 seconds. I tried to change the sleep settings but it does not work.
I would like to know how to stop my computer from logging me off when idle. I have disabled all other power options. I am trying to see if the system Watchdog_timeout errors and other BSODs are caused by the power management portion of Windows 7.
when my pc is idle (not sleep mode) a while, it start a loading sound like the one you ge loading a app/game or scanning. but i make sure i turn virus auto scan off. so why do i still get loading sound? what is making the noise?
1st time poster, I have a HP 425 laptop, windows 7 professional. The laptop works fine in Safe Mode but in normal mode it works for few minutes and then goes blank. There is power and nothing works (the wireless button stops responding)I have changed the system board/motherboard, did a complete reinstallation, ran HP hardware test and memory test that comes with the laptop. I hooked the laptop to and external display and the display is blank as well. I logon in Safe mode and used msconfig and stopped th
I have a Sony Vaio with Windows 7 installed on it. Recently, my computer was attacked by a virus. As soon as I noticed, I turned off the computer manually, and booted back up in safe mode. I ran Avast, Ad-Aware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. All 3 found a couple of threats, which I deleted. I tried restarting my computer, and then running these 3 again in safe mode (with network). I did it as long as threats were found. Once the computer felt safe, I tried booting in normal mode.
Here's the problem : I get to the "Welcome" page, and then everything goes black but my cursor. What's strange about the problem : For some reason, I did succeed to get it to open normally 2 or 3 times, but every single time it would be crazy laggy. Internet Explorer wouldn't work either. It freezes as soon as I try to access anything. And now it's back to a black screen after the "Welcome" page when I try booting in normal mode. Only my cursor appears (I can move the cursor). Safe Mode works just fine too, only Normal mode has a problem.
Yesterday, I added malware bytes protection and also last night installed avg 2012. Ran scans, everything was moving faster. Shut down last night...and this morning windows will not come on in normal or safe mode. When try to start in safe mode it says STOP: c0000135 program cannot start %hs is missing. On another post with similar code it had a link to put on usb drive and to put in infected laptop and restart with f8. When I did that it said no bootable partition in table. When usb is not in it just goes back to stop message. I have a dell inspiron core i3 (I don't know if that matters). I have tried running restore to previous time and it did not work. when i click on repair it goes to the launch window or start in safe mode option?
Combo fix was run a couple times. It said not sure where download came from (was trying to get rid of security tool virus that was redirecting websites occasionally). But said It didn't remember any messages coming up, restarted. Everything was fine, installed malware bytes constant protection. Later that night I installed free avg 2012 and ran scans everything good. Computer ran great. Shut down at night. In morning windows would not load in regular or safe mode. When try to repair it goes to launch windows repair or start windows normally screen. When hit launch repair it goes back to that screen. If you start in safe mode it says that it is loading windows files then blue screen appears with "Stop: c0000135 program can not load %hs is missing."
Win 7 Normal Mode won't start, will go past Starting up Screen and just hit a Black screen and will hit a Crash Dump (blue error screen)..... I can boot into safe mode fine and I have fun CHKSDK and after a reboot it fixed a few problems but I hit the same Crash Dump Screen. I have also made sure my whole pc is all clean and connected, no corroding parts etc etc, made sure my pci-e slot is default etc etc, no luck at all...Its a new installation and worked fine last night and early this morning after separate boots. But as soon as I booted this afternoon it wouldn't load and would hit the blue error crash dump screen..
I had bought windows vista along time ago and when i got it, it had said that i would get a free windows 7 upgrade in the mail when it got released. Well the time has come and passed. I have a small problem where i need to reinstall windows 7 but i cant find my windows vista disc or Serial Key. Now i found a site that explained how to make it so i can just install the upgrade and fool it into thinking that its a normal copy.
[URL]
Now im wondering if this still works and if other people have done it or if there are easyer ways. Keep in mind i cant afford to buy a nonupgrade version of windows 7 atm.
how do I restart my laptop pc windows 7 in normal mode now that it is stuck in safe mode? Putting this in the top of page did nothing Start > MSConfig > Boot > Uncheck Safe Boot > Restart.
