I'm trying to make my computer to start a task when it goes idle, and then kill it when i start using the computer again. I tried for the first time windows scheduler, idle options are there but it doesn't work (beats me why).
I already tried third party tools and i was able to make an app to start when the computer goes idle but not to kill it when the computer is being used again
I'm having difficulties scheduling a task for when computer is idle. What I want to do is run a task after the computer has been idle for five minutes. I've tried creating a scheduled task in different ways, which will do this, but to no avail.I go to Task scheduler to create a task:
General Tab
Give the task a name, put the check box to run with the highest priv., and configure it for Win 7.
Triggers Tab
New, Begin the task on idle, Repeat task for 15 minutes indefinitely, Enabled.
Action Tab

Now from what I can gather from this is that every 15 minutes, the computer will run the task if the computer stays idle for 5 minutes. Say, I start the computer and leave it like that, then the task should run after 5 minutes. Then after 10 minutes, it will once again start checking to run the task.
After downoading some windows critical updates (this is about 6 months ago) my computer would lock up after windows started and I could no do anything until I started task manager. All I have to do is start task manager and close it and then everything is fine. Becuase of this, I just didnt bother trying to find a fix but I wondered if anyone has advice on how to correct this problem.

When I restart the laptop (via CTRL + ALT + DEL) I see all of the missing items listed for about 10 seconds...then they all disappear. What I have left is my personalised background image (my cute 2 month old nephew with my sunglasses) and a windows explorer window. Nothing else.
So far I have managed to access my Virus protection software (AVG) and run a scan. It didn't find anything. I ran my spyware application (Spybot Search and Destroy) again nothing.
what I can do to get my laptop back to a usable state?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI booted my computer today, but when I click any program in my taskbar, or int the start menu, they dont open. In the task manager they are there, but their working set is only 40-90K. Some programs can be started from file->new process, with run as administrator checked, but I cant see any pattern to which will start. If a process doesnt start from task manager, it freezes task manager, and I need to open another the end it. If I start a program pinned to my taskbar nothing will happen: The icon will get the running program rectangle around it, then it will fade away. If I right click a program in the start menu, the start menu and taskbar freeze, and I need to restart them from the task manager. I can run cmd from task manager. Ive rebooted multiple times, defragmented the disk(that fixed it last time this happened, but it may have been a cooincidence), run chkdsk, but nothing works. To make it wierder, if I press the hotkeys on my keyboard (browser, mail, etc), the program will start up fine, even if it cant be launched from task manager(firefox)
EDIT: While I was typing this I was running sfc /scannow , and that fixed it, but Id still like to know why. This is the second time this has happened, and both times its taken me most of the day to fix it, and both time different things fixed it

When I start task scheduler I first get this error and than no matter what folder I click the error pops up again. After this 2nd error it doesn't pop up anymore but all the folders show up empty.

it causes some programs to not boot correctly. Like MSIafterburner gives an error, so I have to go to the config settings of MSIafterburner because it tries to boot using the taskscheduler really weird I know :/
i need to have a task run that will move the contents of a folder from one computer to another over my home LAN. Files get downloaded during the night on one computer and then need to be transfered to another. Usually I am doing this by hand, but then though maybe I could get the task scheduler to do it for me.I understand how to create a task, however I am having trouble with the action tab. I was thinking that I should start windows explorer (where is explorer located for win 7 x64 machines?) under the action tab, but once I do this I am not sure how to tell explorer to check the source folder, select all the files in it and then move it to the target folder.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have installed this game, Singularity. The game worked fine for a week then suddenly It would crash as soon as it was opened from the desktop shortcut. The game is patched to it's latest version, I have direct x all other runtimes and PhysX installed from the CD. The shortcut it set to run as Admin in compatibility. No matter if i try with the desktop shortcut or from the exe in the folder or from the shortcut in the start menu the game will crash asap. The only way this game runs is by pulling up task manager and selecting New Task then browsing to the games exe. Malwarebytes reports no viruses or any malware. Tried reinstalling, and it didn't help.

I had already setup a task to run upon logon when I noticed that the PC's name was all jacked. So I changed the pc's name and rebooted. After reboot the task disappeared from the task scheduler list but still runs. Is there anyway to remove this ghost task when it is no longer visible in the task scheduler?I thought about changing the name back temporarily to see if the task would show up but I have no idea what that name was, so that is not an option.

View 2 Replies View RelatedJust recently I have started having the issue of too much RAM being used on both my desktop and laptop.I am by no means a novice when it comes to computers.The desktop is a custom build and the laptop is a $3600 workstation.Both systems have never given me this problem until I installed Microsoft Office 2013.I can data this problem as soon as I started using this version of office.However, new updates on Windows 7 cannot be ruled out as a possible issue so I am posting on the forums to see if anyone else is having similar issues.
Here are screenshots of task manager. As you can see, there is no program using more than 80MB of RAM. I cannot figure out what is occupying all the space. Could it be clipboard? This usually happens after I am done working on assignments (which require quite a bit of copying and pasting graphs in uncompressed TIFF format created in MATLAB).
Side note: After restarting my desktop,the system usually uses around 1.8GB RAM and laptop uses around the same. This issue is on both laptop and desktop.

I have Gb of ram and recently upgraded from 4gb. When i had 4gb it used 30% of ram when idle. I switched to 8gb and it is using 50% when idle. I used several virus detection softwares to see if that was it. It wasn't. NowIi am also finding programs such as firefox or java using ridiculkous amounts of ram. For example; I was using firefox and was just using google. Next thing I see is a message from windows saying to close firefox casue it using too much ram. I look at the processes to see how much ram and it will be using about 3.5Gb ram...
View 3 Replies View RelatedThe issues come when I leave the PC overnight, idling, with the monitor physically turned off (I use the power button). When I come back in the morning and turn the monitor back on, there is a black screen and the PC won't wake.I have left the computer idling during the day for many hours with the monitor being in standby (PC turns it off, not me).Interestingly, when the PC "hangs" after the night I can still access stuff over the network, and play some videos on my TV which is DLNA-ed to it. Logs do not show any issues, in fact there is some logging going on all night meaning the PC isn't totally dead. However, I try plugging some USB devices in and out, but it doesn't make that USB recognition noise.
Things I have tried:
- playing around with power settings, ie. disabling USB turn-off, disabling ULPS on my vid card (ultra-low-power-savings mode), changing the screen turn-off times, turning sleep and hybernate/hybrid off
- note it is NOT a taskbar auto-hide issue. If you are having crashing problems after idling (still able to access PC for 10s of seconds before it freezes), be sure to check out information on the auto-hide of the taskbar

- I run utorrent overnight As a test, I turned my monitor off (physically) during the day, and came back to a "hung" system. I think this may be the root of the issue but it's still driving me up a wall because it's such a weird problem. I have to keep trouble shooting the issue to be certain. To me it doesn't seem like a hardware thing, but maybe there are some experts out there who can shed some light.

I've just bought a new system 2 days ago and am having freezing issues with my Windows 7 installation. The entire system would freeze up after being left idle for a while (~5-10 minutes). Usually the entire system would freeze completely when I return. On very few occassions, numlock would still work for a couple of times (before it stays on). Once, I managed to move the mouse cursor but it was really laggy and choppy before it froze up as well. I have already installed all Windows updates, newest BIOS, and drivers from manufacturer website. View 12 Replies View RelatedI have an Acer w/ 8gb of ram(Newly installed was 4gb) w/ a 1TB HDD. On idle it range's from about 16-20%(1200-1600mb) I've had a few windows open w/ music video's plying etc. and it's never gone past 28% that's why I think at idle its high.
Is this normal. I opened up task manager under memory and closed some thing's I didn't need but it still seems pretty high.
