operating windows 7.Been offline for some time,but still played games.When turn on the machine no as far as I get is the main screen with no icons task bar or start.There is a small person that likes to push buttons? I have hp 6180t. I tried all 4 options as the computer starts up, but nothing works.
View 3 RepliesI have a Toshiba Satallite with Windows 7 installed. I now have no start button, windows task bar and all of my desktop icons have gone missing.
When I restart the laptop (via CTRL + ALT + DEL) I see all of the missing items listed for about 10 seconds...then they all disappear. What I have left is my personalised background image (my cute 2 month old nephew with my sunglasses) and a windows explorer window. Nothing else.
So far I have managed to access my Virus protection software (AVG) and run a scan. It didn't find anything. I ran my spyware application (Spybot Search and Destroy) again nothing.
what I can do to get my laptop back to a usable state?
All my desktop icons are missing, no start button or task bar.The only way I can access my computer is via safe mode.Two things happened this morning so I am not sure which one is the culprit. Firstly I had an update from Java.Then I shut my computer down and went to bed.During the night, my UPS board starting beeping. We were having power problems, I think a brown out.The power went out completely then all my other electronics like my tv, kettle, washing machine etc, starting working properly again.So I can't say whether it was the power problem that has caused this or the Java update. I have done a system restore which didn't help. I have done Windows+R and typed in 'explorer.exe"..which only gave me a black screen. I have run all antivirus programs and nothing is being picked up.

It does not have any controls for looking at applications or performance. I must turn it off with the taskbar window, close window. Does anyone have any ideas as to the cause and cure? When I open taskbar properities and select customize the page opens for a 1/2 second and then closes. I have run a antivirus and malware progam and everything came back ok.

Screenshot below:[URL]But it never used to do that. And some programs like Firefox, do not, or MSN.When I launch a program from the taskbar, I want the icon to just get highlighted, not open another icon.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a Lenovo Think Pad with Windows 7 Professional, 32 bit. I had about 10 application icons pinned to the task bar. After adding a new keyboard language the icons disappeared and the scroll button (the one with the up & down arrows) moved all the way to the left of the of the task bar close to the Start button, hence not allowing any icons to be shown on the task bar.

Ctrl-alt-del brings up the option to access the task manger but it fails to display it. safe mode is fine and when I create a new admin account (admin account 2) all is well. is there a way to fix this problem as i have a year old system restore that I dont want to use. I was hoping to fix my admin account 1 as it has all my settings, programs etc. Can this be fixed and if not is there a way to copy all settings (looks, programs, firefox settings etc) to the admin account 2.
View 1 Replies View Relatedi am missing a folder (at least one that i know of since i've tried to access it today) in my drop down bookmarks. it's filled with many site addresses.i've even checked inside all my other folders to make sure it wasn't hidinghen i've lost all of those icons that i added to my toolbar. icons like "dictionary", "Internet", "gmail", "yahoo", "google" and many others that i can't think of right now.i don't even have a refresh button anymore.there aren't any of those little drop down arrows where i can just re-add stuff.
View 1 Replies View RelatedFriday night I had quick launch icons. Saturday morning I didn't. I also can't open the START menu and select "pin to start menu" on anything anymore. There are arrows next to certain programs as well (such as Word) that USED TO show recent documents but those don't even open anymore. All that exists there is an arrow with no functionality. What the heck? I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 64. Why would all of my quick launch icons suddenly disappear and I can't drag and drop anything to the bar now? The bar isn't locked and nothing has changed in the system that I know of.

I went to my start and my computer/destop/documents files weren't there. I tryed ctrl+alt+delete i opened up taskmanager and it closes really fast. Also a erro spams my screen- Windows-Delayed Write Failed - "Failed to save components for the files \system32\00002cd4. Tje files is corrupted or unreadable. I already tried third party tools and i was able to make an app to start when the computer goes idle but not to kill it when the computer is being used again
After downoading some windows critical updates (this is about 6 months ago) my computer would lock up after windows started and I could no do anything until I started task manager. All I have to do is start task manager and close it and then everything is fine. View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an Acer Aspire M5811 running Windows 7 - 64 bit. When I tried to start my pc tonight I ended up with just the desktop wallpaper with no icons or start menu.
I tried to reboot in safe mode but the pc became unresponsive. I also tried using the system restore disc but again nothing.
I booted my computer today, but when I click any program in my taskbar, or int the start menu, they dont open. In the task manager they are there, but their working set is only 40-90K. Some programs can be started from file->new process, with run as administrator checked, but I cant see any pattern to which will start. If a process doesnt start from task manager, it freezes task manager, and I need to open another the end it. If I start a program pinned to my taskbar nothing will happen: The icon will get the running program rectangle around it, then it will fade away. If I right click a program in the start menu, the start menu and taskbar freeze, and I need to restart them from the task manager. I can run cmd from task manager. Ive rebooted multiple times, defragmented the disk(that fixed it last time this happened, but it may have been a cooincidence), run chkdsk, but nothing works. To make it wierder, if I press the hotkeys on my keyboard (browser, mail, etc), the program will start up fine, even if it cant be launched from task manager(firefox)
EDIT: While I was typing this I was running sfc /scannow , and that fixed it, but Id still like to know why. This is the second time this has happened, and both times its taken me most of the day to fix it, and both time different things fixed it
I go onto start menu and click on pictures or right click and open, there is a momentary attempt to open but then nothing.I used to be able to click on and get the pictures this way.To get pictures I have to go into my documents and open the left hand list under Libraries.I then click onto pictures,nothing happens until I right click and expand and there is "my pictures" to open up. I have sent" my pictures shortcut "to my desktop as an Icon as a quick way of opening up.When I scan a photo it used to copy it and send it quickly to ( I think Pictures), from here I would always send to my documents as I preferred this.I have noticed that now when finishing the scan and me sending it to file, "the sending" takes time with the words "searching"coming up, before sending the photo on its way.
(1)So is this something to do with Pictures not opening up now on start menu regarding time taken on sending scanned picture, has pictures gone to a different place?
(2)Is it because I am always sending picture to my documents, so it has decided not to open pictures on start menu. ( note I like to tweek under Paint and Paint net via documents)
(3)I have right clicked on start menu into start menu tab under customise it is checked" as display as a link".
Privacy is checked as "Store & display recently opened programs in start menu" &Store & display recently opened items in the Start menu & task bar.
I started using Windows Live 2011. Upon start up I supplied my pop mail server gmail account info plus pass word. Immediately it start downloading my huge e-mail from gmail. After some hours downloading I went to MS Live Mail and found all my gmail imported email was not there. The folders were but not the e-mail. I checked my gmail account and all the email was gone from gmail. Can I restore my email in either Live Mail or gmail?

I just put this computer together this January. I was able to play up until about March, but then when April rolled around, the crashing started to occur. I talked with the Name behind the game(OGPlanet) and none of their solutions worked.
