I just reformatted my W7. For some reason on my tasktbar, when I open a program lets say AIM, the icon will show up twice. Or Photoshop, it shows up twice. Screenshot below:[URL]But it never used to do that. And some programs like Firefox, do not, or MSN.When I launch a program from the taskbar, I want the icon to just get highlighted, not open another icon.
View 4 RepliesRecently after I finished editing a .txt file in WordPad, I closed out of the program, but then immediately opened it back up because I forgot to change something. The program loaded, and I could see it and it's preview on the taskbar, but it would not show up on my screen. I hadn't installed or modified anything very recently also. Then later that day, after opening up Google Chrome, it did the same thing. I would not show the window on my screen. When I minimized and maximized the window from the taskbar, the animation showed the window going to the far right hand side and off the monitor. When I pressed "Windows Key +Tab" it showed the window, but wouldn't bring it to the front again. I'm not sure what is going on with my computer.

I right click a file then click on "open with" then accidentally click notepad. What happen now is, the icons of my other files change to notepad and cannot open. The files now have a file extension of .lnk. My question is how can I restore my file back to its original or default form.

Some of them are coloured, some are grey but they appear on all programmes, including a Word blank page and the desktop page. Some of them flash, some of them change shape, ut they are all pixel shaped within the boxes. There are also some strange 'squiggly' marks on the screen. When I opened Windows mail, the left hand side of the screen was completely black and it didn't show any of my messages. As I'm typing this message, I've got grey boxes which change shape as I type and it's covering some of the text.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI have a small problem with my Windows 7. Here's what happened:Yesterday, my pc was running fine. I turned it on at 10am and it was running well. My sister ordered a new router so I set it up for her (AirPort Extreme). I installed the utility for it, was a simple setup for me. After that, I connect to it wirelessly and I see that windows update has a few security updates. They install as I turn off the pc. I then turn it back on a few hrs later and notice that when it reaches the login screen, it takes a few secs for it to load. This is unusual being that the days before it was always ready to receive input. So I login, get the welcome screen, and my desktop screen. Taskbar loads as usual, however I can't get anything to show up when I click on it. I think at first that its Comodo (is in training mode) so I close it out. Still nothing. I then press ctrl+alt+delete. Nothing. I then press it rapidly to see what happens. After a few mins, my screen turns black. A message then shows up that ctrl+alt+delete has been pressed but due to something that it won't show up. Had to press either the power button or esc to leave the screen. Safe mode works. I do a system restore back to when the windows update and to the installation of the router. I scanned and haven't found anything yet. Today, my pc looks like its running fine but its still taking a few secs on the login screen and the desktop still idles. I'm going to contact HP to see what they can do but I wanted a second opinion.

Only two of my running apps icons are showing in the taskbar. I trid using smaller icons and that did not work. When I open taskbar properities and select customize the page opens for a 1/2 second and then closes. I have run a antivirus and malware progam and everything came back ok.

After adding a new keyboard language the icons disappeared and the scroll button (the one with the up & down arrows) moved all the way to the left of the of the task bar close to the Start button, hence not allowing any icons to be shown on the task bar.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Toshiba Satallite with Windows 7 installed. I now have no start button, windows task bar and all of my desktop icons have gone missing.
When I restart the laptop (via CTRL + ALT + DEL) I see all of the missing items listed for about 10 seconds...then they all disappear. What I have left is my personalised background image (my cute 2 month old nephew with my sunglasses) and a windows explorer window. Nothing else.
So far I have managed to access my Virus protection software (AVG) and run a scan. It didn't find anything. I ran my spyware application (Spybot Search and Destroy) again nothing.

I have in the taskbar properties "Use small icons", "Group when taskbar is full", and this value changed with regedit: Code: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USERControl PanelDesktopWindowMetrics] "MinWidth"="40" I want to look like all the icons from Explorer the same, no matter in what folder is at the moment, look like they are all left as the yellow icon entirely. How can I do that?

It goes to the point where I see windows screen, I never see a logon icon. How long should I wait ? I try to boot from CD, the same. it hangs and I never see the user icons.
I try to run the repair option from CD. It hangs at Starting setup.
I just tonight installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64 onto my system. Right away I noticed the issue. Icons on the desktop won't delete or won't show changes such as renaming right away. I have to refresh the desktop for the changes to take effect. I've tried restarting, I've installed all the current updates... nothing!

Usually I am doing this by hand, but then though maybe I could get the task scheduler to do it for me.I understand how to create a task, however I am having trouble with the action tab. I was thinking that I should start windows explorer (where is explorer located for win 7 x64 machines?) under the action tab, but once I do this I am not sure how to tell explorer to check the source folder, select all the files in it and then move it to the target folder.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have installed this game, Singularity. The game worked fine for a week then suddenly It would crash as soon as it was opened from the desktop shortcut. The game is patched to it's latest version, I have direct x all other runtimes and PhysX installed from the CD. The shortcut it set to run as Admin in compatibility. No matter if i try with the desktop shortcut or from the exe in the folder or from the shortcut in the start menu the game will crash asap. The only way this game runs is by pulling up task manager and selecting New Task then browsing to the games exe. Malwarebytes reports no viruses or any malware. Tried reinstalling, and it didn't help.

I had already setup a task to run upon logon when I noticed that the PC's name was all jacked. So I changed the pc's name and rebooted. After reboot the task disappeared from the task scheduler list but still runs. Is there anyway to remove this ghost task when it is no longer visible in the task scheduler?I thought about changing the name back temporarily to see if the task would show up but I have no idea what that name was, so that is not an option.
