What can I install/use to watch my BluRay movies in my Alien-ware laptop?

View 1 Replies View RelatedA few days ago an annoying window appears both in firefox and Internet explorer as soon as they are opened. As it jazzes up and down in a most annoying way, it is telling me that I am today's winner of an Iphone. Clicking on the x button or the "no" button doesn't close the window, instead it tries to take you to a site called "prizegivaway.org" which fortunately my security program blocks. How can I get rid of this? Where does the initializing software reside?

1st time poster, I have a HP 425 laptop, windows 7 professional. The laptop works fine in Safe Mode but in normal mode it works for few minutes and then goes blank. View 12 Replies View RelatedI have a Sony Vaio with Windows 7 installed on it. Recently, my computer was attacked by a virus. As soon as I noticed, I turned off the computer manually, and booted back up in safe mode. I ran Avast, Ad-Aware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. All 3 found a couple of threats, which I deleted. I tried restarting my computer, and then running these 3 again in safe mode (with network). I did it as long as threats were found. Once the computer felt safe, I tried booting in normal mode.
Here's the problem : I get to the "Welcome" page, and then everything goes black but my cursor. What's strange about the problem : For some reason, I did succeed to get it to open normally 2 or 3 times, but every single time it would be crazy laggy. Internet Explorer wouldn't work either. It freezes as soon as I try to access anything. And now it's back to a black screen after the "Welcome" page when I try booting in normal mode. Only my cursor appears (I can move the cursor). Safe Mode works just fine too, only Normal mode has a problem.
Yesterday, I added malware bytes protection and also last night installed avg 2012. Ran scans, everything was moving faster. Shut down last night...and this morning windows will not come on in normal or safe mode. When try to start in safe mode it says STOP: c0000135 program cannot start %hs is missing. On another post with similar code it had a link to put on usb drive and to put in infected laptop and restart with f8. When I did that it said no bootable partition in table. When usb is not in it just goes back to stop message. I have a dell inspiron core i3 (I don't know if that matters). I have tried running restore to previous time and it did not work. when i click on repair it goes to the launch window or start in safe mode option?
View 2 Replies View RelatedCombo fix was run a couple times. It said not sure where download came from (was trying to get rid of security tool virus that was redirecting websites occasionally). But said It didn't remember any messages coming up, restarted. Everything was fine, installed malware bytes constant protection. Later that night I installed free avg 2012 and ran scans everything good. Computer ran great. Shut down at night. In morning windows would not load in regular or safe mode. When try to repair it goes to launch windows repair or start windows normally screen. When hit launch repair it goes back to that screen. If you start in safe mode it says that it is loading windows files then blue screen appears with "Stop: c0000135 program can not load %hs is missing."

View 5 Replies View RelatedI had bought windows vista along time ago and when i got it, it had said that i would get a free windows 7 upgrade in the mail when it got released. Well the time has come and passed. I have a small problem where i need to reinstall windows 7 but i cant find my windows vista disc or Serial Key. Now i found a site that explained how to make it so i can just install the upgrade and fool it into thinking that its a normal copy.

Now im wondering if this still works and if other people have done it or if there are easyer ways. Keep in mind i cant afford to buy a nonupgrade version of windows 7 atm.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI have win7 on C drive and WinXPsp3 on D drive. Drives are separate. You can see full specs below.
I boot into XP on D fine. I can also boot into Win7 on C fine, but here is the catch. The computer wants to go into a chkdsk if I boot into win7. If I let the computer do this it goes through a very long process and when it comes out of that process it reboots and goes through its normal procedure.
But then when it gets to the very last step, the step where it shows the wallpaper, icons and taskbar, all I get is blank screen.
If I boot into safe mode I can see everything. If I boot into safemode with networking I can see everything. As a matter of fact that is how I am typing this message now.
What do I need to do to get my computer to boot correctly?
Here are my specs:

Drive D: WinXP Pro sp2 80GB NTFS (IDE)

I am using Windows 7 Pro on a Dell Inspiron 1520. Today, when I attempted to start the unit, I heard a rapid beeping that was uncontrollable until I clicked the Control Key. There are no error messages. I have done 2 cold boots and a memory diagnostic (which found no errors) with no positive results. It begins right when the screen indicates it is Starting Windows. Once I get past that, it seems to operate normally, but I am concerned there is a root problem that will surface with disastrous results at a later time.

I have accessed the boot options screen and loaded windows from the disk in an attempt the repair it that way but I can not restore the computer from an earlier point in time and startup repair does nothing but search for problems for hours with no progress.

I just tried to install an old IDE hard drive (via a SATA converter card ) as a slave and managed to screw up windows 7 boot-up. The system initially booted up fine but didn't see the new drive. After checking to see if all the ports were enabled in the bios I tried again. The system then didn't see any hard drives. I pulled out the IDE and re-started. The system now will see the boot hard drive but will not boot in either safe or normal modes.
