No Bootable Device - Insert Boot Disc Error
Dec 16, 2012
I have Windows 7 on a AMD Phenom Machine. Hard Drive died so I put another one in and restored Windows with Acronis True Image.
When I leave the Windows repair disk in the drive, the restored system starts perfectly, runs perfectly etc. But if I pull that repair disk out of the drive I get this error about "No Bootable Device" "Insert Disc". So in other words that repair disk has to be in the drive, else I get the error.
I have already:
1. Verified that the boot sequence points to my Windows Drive
2. Run system repair. That's useless. It just tells me everything is fine.
3. Run bootrec fixmbr, vixboot, rebuildbcd. No problems found
4. Run Chkdsk. No problems found.

I am having a problem starting my PC! I have to start it in the boot menu under the RAID option. If I do not do this a message saying "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key.." comes up, and just keeps popping up regardless of what I press! I would try using my boot disk but for the life of me I can't find it, and as windows 7 was already installed on this computer when we got it 3 year ago, I can't accurately recall if it came with one!I am no expert on BIOS, but I have read other problems similar to this one, and know that if I don't have the boot disk or the OS disk, I will need to know that at least.I am curious if the (Hard drive) is the issue. The BIOS tells me that anything in parentheses is disabled from corresponding type menu.

When it crashes the cursor still moves and sometimes I can move windows around but then it all shuts down and sometimes briefly shows a blue screen of death. On reboot I sometimes get this message and have to reboot again. "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key"It's a brand new box just built last week but no warranty and I would not even know what part to replace if it's hardware related.I've attached a Hijackthis to the post if it helps but I don't think it's virus related at all.

When left alone..."Reboot and select proper boot device or Insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key"I have a new(ish) cpu that I bought last Christmas, it works great and it has not crashed on me whenever I am using it. However, when I leave it on overnight (usually when it is downloading something big), when I wake up in the morning I am greeted with a black screen with the words:"Reboot and select proper boot device or Insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key"When this happens I simply press the power button a few seconds to turn it off, then turn it on again and it boots normally. (pressing a key only results in the message being repeated)What infuriates me is that it only ever happens when I leave it on overnight so I don't know when and how exactly it occurs but it almost always does. Like I said earler, it never does this when I am using it as it works fine otherwise. It just won't stay on overnight when I need it to.

I just changed my PSU and upgraded my graphics card today. I tried booting it up and it came up with this message "reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key."I'm pretty sure I got all the cables in correctly and I only have one harddrive. No externals.By the way, I don't have my windows 7 CD because I let a friend borrow it and I won't be able to get it back for some time. However, I do have a Windows XP CD if that helps in any way.

I have two HD drives, one SATA and one IDE, plus one SATA CD/DVD drive. Firstly I used to have XP on the SATA and Windows 7 on the IDE, but the IDE drive is smaller and slower and I wanted to essentially swap them over. The boot devices are set in the bios as CD/DVD first, SATA second, IDE third.
So I have installed XP first on the IDE and now Windows 7 on the SATA, but after I removed the Windows 7 DVD and restarted it is refusing to boot saying NO BOOT DEVICE DETECTED, INSERT SYSTEM DISK. Now if I place the Windows 7 dvd in the drive and ignore the PRESS ANY KEY TO BOOT FROM CD/DVD...., it will book fine.
This will surely fustrate non-technical users no end and some may not even think to try and replace the OS disk and try again. I think I know what has happened, but more importantly how do I go and fix it to just boot without needing a damn boot disk everytime!?

I have an Acer Aspire On 10inch Notebook that runs on Windows 7 Premium Edition (32bit). I'd been having some troubles with its speed for a day or so and since I'd neglected to do a Windows update. So, I restarted it and hoped that once it installed those updates everything would be fine. My first warning sign was the time that it took to turn off - probably 15 minutes was spent with the screen continuously saying "Shutting Down" and I took this to mean that it was probably a series of updates that I had missed. So, I left it to sit and came back to check on it afterwards. When it finally finished, a black screen took over and sat there for quite some time. Eventually I grew frustrated and restarted the computer, and saw the 'Acer' screen come up, and then the computer screen went black again and a command line started, where I received this message[CODE]

My Toshiba Satellite L755 is receiving the following error at startup:
Check cable connection!
PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel PXE ROM.
No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key
This occurred after I used Toshiba Wizard to clear the hardrive. I was attempting to get everything back it's original state.
So far I have gotten into setup by holding f2 at startup. The boot tab reads:
1. HDD/SSD Hitachi HTS545050B9A300 (S1)
2. USB
3. ODD TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-L633F (PM)
4. FDD
5. LAN Atheros Boot Agent
I have also tried disconnecting the battery and harddrive and then reconnecting them.

I have XP Pro64 bitand I am trying to upgrade to Win7 64 bit, While it is unwrapping files there is a point where it needs to reboot. When it does it comes up with the error saying it cant find a bootable device or something in that effect. I removed the win7 dvd and hit the restart on the computer. Install continues. It completes but when I try to put all of the data back in I cant open up my user name (Documents and Settings ) folder has a lock on it. I finally gave up and I am reinstalling XP Pro64 bit again as I type.
I will try to upgrade again.
Can anyone explain why when it reboots it wont just continue to install with the disk in the Drive?
Why there is a lock on the folder and wont let me access the files?

Here are the drives I have on my computer:
-Windows 7 installed on a 1TB drive
-Windows XP on a 500gb drive
-2TB drive for storage.
-1TB drive for storage
-500GB drive for storage
Windows 7 was installed before XP, and I believe XP came after the physical installation of the 2TB drive. I always have to press F8, and then select the first hard drive in the list, and then I'd be able to select to boot "Windows 7." Otherwise it'd give me "boot disk boot error, please insert system disk." The drive I'm selecting is my 2TB drive. My computer won't boot if the 2TB isn't plugged in. I've tried Option One and Two from here with no luck: [URL].

I received the error code "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert..."Also in another screen, which is one of the very few I can access, says there is a "master hard drive error." I have no CD's for Windows 7, I don't have a restore CD, I may be able to burn one from a neighbors computer, if I know the file and where to obtain it. I cannot bring up safe mode or any other screen other than when it attempts to turn on, it brings up the ACER sign, then I can press del: setup or F12:boot something.
